  1. Broxton is basically a more strike out prone poor man 31 year old and beyond curtis granderson. Unless he magically finds a way to spike and fall to a plateau instead of into a ditch.
  2. Waiving Scooter who would go on to hit 27 HR and knock in 97 runs in under 500 AB was not a "minor blemish". It cost them a playoff berth. But worse was getting 2 nondescript minor leaguers for a guy who would go on to do something no Brewer hitter in history has done, that is hit 40+ HR in back to back seasons. I'm speaking of Krush Davis. It's not that he traded Davis. Eventually that was going to happen. But he jumped the gun and settled for minimal return. Davis was clearly blossoming as a premier power bat at the end of 2015. He just hadn't put it together over a full season due to an injury earlier that year. Stearns has done a lot of good things, but he severely mis-evaluated two players who were already here when he arrived. Premier power bats who hit 247/317 aren't really all that sought. Especially if they cant field a position. You get Davis in RF is no better than Broxton in CF right. 15 more hr... 20 point better ba... same obp. You think broxtons garbage. Why is Khris good? Scooter was given 542 pa at 26 and his numbers were meh. You expected his ba to jump 30 points and his hrs to double? After 3 years of mlb experience? Not to mention cincy spiked his numbers and no one wanted to trade for him... just like carter... and khris he wasn't valued. He was claimed by a garbage team with a hole to fill. You know why? Ho hum defenders who cant get on base aren't valued. Hrs be damned. I get it, you liked them but isn't your reputation worth more to you than your man crush. You are being foolish and looking foolish and I wouldn't tarnish my opinions value over a player crush. I mean this is my first time through with you but im sure people read your take and think.... chicks dig the long ball... briggsy scooter khris homer fan #1... before they even read what you say. But yes back on topic. I'd ideally want 2 starters because long man suter with Fperalta and Hader left to roam the pen makes for a very nasty pen. 1 strong set up man and it gets very deep with guys like jeffress barnes williams houser drake left to fight out 2 spots.
  3. Isnt arroyo also replacing the 3b they traded ladt season as well. I mean i can see if they dealt panik they'd play arroyo there but then need a 3b instead of a 2b.
  4. I guess if you think panik is worth santana I don't really know what to say. Panik for Santana would infuriate me beyond belief and i want and value panik. To the people who on the other side say panik is not needed... our whole lineup can not be free swinging K prone batters. You might think villar will see that 5 golden months again. I don't. I think panik is more stable and we need a few neil walker stable types in this lineup. He's also cheap. Its not 1st, 3rd, rf. Braun is braun and you need to let phillips brinson arcia grow into what they'll be so you accept what you get. Pina and 2b are the only spots you can get low K in the lineup. Villar broxton for a better fit makes productive use of a logjam. You might regret dealing villar or broxton and you might go well we got the only good months they had to offer. Both are so streaky. You need some stability. If paniks road numbers 290/350 with 15 hr a season hold up... the only thing villar can do better is steal and that's if he bounces back a long long way.
  5. Panik is interesting too. Home road splits road 290/350 about 15 hr per... prime age... low Ks (which fits the houston philosophy). Young controlled enough to resell in 2 years. Him at 1 with the core 4 is pretty solid.
  6. Im circling back on panik here. Ill probably get killed on this but why not villar broxton for panik. Maybe we get a prospect... i dont have a good guage on value. 3 reasons: 1 panik is in arby and is 27. He's in his prime the next 2 which is all the time we'd need him and point 2 could set him up as a nice sell high piece at that point. Not to mention we have a glut of depth but want mlb contributions. 2 for 1 that gets us just that. 2 his numbers are pretty drastic home and away. His splits are close LR but his away numbers are 290/350. His ab home and away are similar but he hit 22 hr on the road and 7 at home. We know lefties like our park. He could be a 15 hr guy if he gets out of SF. 290/350 15 HR is good villar minus the speed. If the away numbers hold up here he's a nice trade piece when diaz huira arrive. 3 what did houston do last offseason? Make moves to dramatically cut out Ks. Panik over villar cuts 100 a year. Very few places we can cut them without losing a lot of production in the process. 2b is the best option. They want an OF fine. Broxton is all you get. Trading panik leaves a hole, fill it for them. Get the guy who is a perfect fit in the analytics team composition model. If it nets a prospect as well all the better. Depth for a possible upgrade (if villar doesnt find it again) and great fit. Who should hold trade value as we wait on huira diaz and possibly look even better as he gets out of sf. Just makes sense. For those with better ideas on value. Broxton Villar and ??? = Panik and ???
  7. Well the stearns track record is pretty amazing. Feliz scooter are the minor blemishes. Some will say the pen last year but some here believe the success caught the fo off guard... as in earlier than expected and the pen wasn't a priority. Keep wheeling and dealing and see what else sticks.
  8. While you can argue this all true and equal we have no motivation to deal him unless they beat this offer. You dont trade a beast for equal pieces. He's the best part of the trade so thats still not enough.
  9. Sf just missed stanton... let it be braun! Apples and Oranges I know but come on!
  10. Arod, now stanton. You sign a crazy market shattering long term contract, you'll end up a yankee.
  11. Id take Samardjia for Braun straight up. Every time you try to make this roster fit well the issue I always snag on is how much can you count on Braun. Yes hes real good but for 100 games 120 games, worse? Does he decline more. Do you leave brinson down waiting for the next injury etc. The meh 200 innings (and the fip was much better than the era) and 2.2 war plugs in so much nicer. The home away is a bit spooky though. The flashy phillips brinson santana of defense with broxton as a 4th. Id take the offensive hit and not look back. Thames aguilar platoon santana shaw can and need to carry this offense. The kids need their abs. Santana phillips or brinson... ok sf you just try! Broxton I'd listen.
  12. Well even pitching in the rotation and 3 of 5 days at DH is pretty impressive if he does both well. AL was the best fit in everyone's opinion from day 1 anyway.
  13. Trade: Broxton Ortiz Grisham for Yelich Drake for a lottery ticket Sign: Jake Mcgee 3/24 Cishek 2/15 Pina vogt Thames villar*** arcia shaw aguilar sogard perez *** half of a season, put up or you get flipped for a prospect and I bring up Dubon. Yelich santana Braun phillips Anderson Davies Woodruff suter jungeman*** ***Give suter jungemann wilkerson even perrin a shot to see if they can go 6ip at 4era while we have a chance to figure it out. Burnes Hader nelson FA signing or big trade will block them soon enough. Knebel cishek hader### mcgee jeffress barnes guerra*** ### Until secondary pitches are strikes and pitches per inning drop he stays a weapon arm. ***last chance as a long man Rhp Yelich cf Thames/Braun 1b (soft platoon) Shaw 3b Santana/Braun lf (rest) Phillips rf Pina/vogt c (soft platoon) sogard/villar 2b (soft platoon) Arcia/sogard ss (rest) Ph: aguilar perez some pina some braun Lhp Yelich cf (*rest phillips in cf bats 6th) Braun lf Shaw 3b (*rest perez at 3b bats 6th) Santana rf Aguilar 1b Pina c Villar 2b Arcia ss Ph: phillips vogt sogard bit of yelich shaw *shaw yelich do not rest same day If braun wasnt so dang injury prone I'd move aguilar and add wilkerson or perrin to the pen and try a 4-5 buddy system. Maybe we could move on from perez and shuttle dubon or brinson as needed. 4-Suter 18 batters or 5 ip... guerra 18 batters or 4 ip. 5-Jungemann 18 batters or 4 ip... wilkerson 18 batters or 4 ip. Jeffress to get out of 1st arm jams. Pen to close if needed. Barnes 2 ip in blowouts or game over spots.
  14. Or even the dodgers
  15. Won't disagree that its the outlier but i dont put much stock in his 2017 being his norm in years 30 31 32.
  16. Yeah a guy like yelich makes it all go so well. I'd almost be on him damn the cost. Would likely overpay by most standards because you know what you are getting. Think it was eaton who fetched something silly... that was a bit nuts but for yelich im in. Now if by: 1b soft platoon you mean thames in vs only rhp but not all rhp 2b soft platoon you mean sogard vs rhp only villar vs rhp and some lhp Cf hard platoon you still find a way to get phillips some ab vs lefties cuz I dont want him pigeon holed yet. Then yes drool emoji I do wonder if villar struggles vs lhp early and we havent made a move if we see a 3 way split at 2b... perez vs lhp... villar sogard split rhp... with sogard getting some ss work vs rhp. The splits are pretty polar and it looks like it could produce adequately in those splits.
  17. I mean yeah he's an innings eater but he has been bad enough you'd almost think wilkerson and jungemann could each take a half season and put up similar results. I'll never understand free agency. Teams are so splashy.
  18. Yes that factors in his best season too. 2016 bad... 2015 best. Its also his 27 28 29 year old seasons. Prime seasons. More likely to play at 2016 levels over the bext 3 than 2017 levels I'd assume. If we were to add him I'd immediately put him in the 9 hole and lead off thames vs rh and braun/santana vs lh. And its not all that likely that his offense would improve on a sogard villar perez 3 man split. Defense clearly yes. But that's 13 mil. Get me two solid rps.
  19. We trade ray and a lottery ticket to take on this contract I'm not going to be happy and I desperately want a 2b lead off hitter not named villar sogard perez. Forget ponce already. I simply grabbed the name of a poosible davies upside pitcher in our system as thats what #2 in the sea system was called.. I think ortiz is better than that as well as burnes Fperalta and diplan supak are totally different types. Just said ponce to illistrate how market value that contract should be viewed as. 30 year old dee at 13 mil until hes 33 is no bargain.
  20. This arms race for international signing bonus money is hilarious. Does it expire at some point?
  21. Yeah i do because speeds overrated and he's 30
  22. Would you give up ponce to pay a contract on a 2b who leans on speed that goes til 33 at 13 mil a year who is around 330 obp and 700 ops? Even if their farm is trash Dee's a name more than substance. And they got more than seas #2 prospect.
  23. Yeah wow no way I give up that to get dee.
