  1. Stanton to SF with Panik coming back is possibly a go?
  2. If they gave up anything its more than I'd have done. Like him but eating his contract is enough in my opinion. Speeds nice. Obp isn't all that special and he's getting older.
  3. If we did this I'd be saying that's too rich but I'm hopeful... due to 3 yr especially. Use 2.. flip 1. If anyone else did this id be saying it's too rich but might pay off and meh. Since the cubs did this im not happy. It feels 8-11 mil too high but I'd prefer him and a upper teir RP to signing arrieta to a beastly contract. This was a frugal and wise move by a big money club. Feels like Quintana again... they beat us to the punch by pricing us out. Really.sucks that the cards and cubs have now landed 2 shorter term mid priced upside candidate arms. You know the ones I'd wish we sought. If we added those 2 at 2/16 and 3/30 id be over the moon saying keep swarzak and add another quality rp and away we go!
  4. Hey i just got Villar or sogard at 1 and I want them replaced by an upgrade so... Thames santana shaw braun... braun santana shaw aguilar are my splits. I didn't fail you too badly. :-) I'd also kill for yelch and would bat him 1.
  5. If we go hard platoon... I wish we would with guys like sogard thames vogt broxton... thames starts vs every rhp... sogard vogt only start vs rhp.... broxton only vs lhp. Rhp 65/35 Sogard/villar Thames all Santana Shaw Braun (rest vs rhp but who?) 50/50 Vogt/Pina Phillips all Arcia (rest vs rhp) Looks just fine. Sogard thames 1-2 vs rhp doesn't make my stomach turn. Good obp sogard low K thames low gidp. Then the rest sets up easily. Broxton should only start vs lhp so if he stays who spells braun? Brinson could bat 7th if we call him up inplace of broxton. He should not be strict platoon. Thames LF with aguilar at 1st? No matter how its not ideal. Just thinking out loud... 1b thames aguilar 2b villar sogard Ss arcia 3b shaw perez Of santana braun phillips broxton Lhp Perez/villar (if villar doesn't bounce back vs lhp he needs to lose those ab) Braun/aguilar (hate resting braun vs lhp but its less painful) Santana Shaw Aguilar/broxton (broxton only vs lhp) Pina Broxton/phillips (dont want phillips in a strict platoon) Arcia Yeah it's the villar sogard non-functional platoon. Villar needs to get back his 2016 numbers vs lhp. Although I dont like the idea of sogard leading a platoon in ab... and I hate the idea of villar batting atop the order if he's not back in 2016 form. If he falters vs lhp perez needs to get those ab and thats still not ideal. I want a vet 2b who kills lefties and is solid against RHP on a 2 year deal. Just incase villar sucks again. Would love Panik or Hernandez but I think it can be done cheaper. (No assets traded out) That add comes at the expense of perez. Need villar to be more super sub then. The more I think about it... we promite Phillips day 1 and stand pat... ugh. Hope I'm wrong.
  6. That's the type of pitcher addition I wanted 2x this offseason. I dont know him but the names been around here and thats what I'd expect to pay on a potential laden gamble.
  7. While the roster is far from set I can't be the only one waiting for the offseason to bring about an answer to my biggest question and worry: Where is the top of this batting order? I can't do Thames Villar again guys. I just can't. I'll lose my mind. I'd be content with: 2 braun (if 1b then phillips brinson 6-7) 3 santana 4 shaw 5 pina/thames 6 aguilar/thames/vogt 7 phillips/brinson 8 arcia But we have nothing but questions at the lead off spot and 2nd base currently. Do we continue to trot out a 2nd basemen at lead off... thames it... do you want arcia there or the starting CF there? Or do you want to add someone specifically for that spot? We didn't play walker there when we had the chance. Do we simply not value the lead off spot? One name people kicked the tires on was Yelich. Without batting an eye at the price I'd be interested at that simply to bat him leadoff. Lefty leadoff low K high obp sets everything up behind him beautifully. You can drop 2nd base down to 7th or 8th in the order and the lineup looks very potent 1-5. Does this bother you as much as it clearly bothers me? Lol
  8. I'll admit it. Saw the top 30.and went where did this Grisham come from? Hadn't heard about him. Did i miss a trade?
  9. I hope both Hader and Suter are in the pen. Hader in high leverage multi-inning door closing appearences. Suter as a true long man who we look to get 4ip-5ip a week. 3ip-4ip and 1ip. Starter leaves with a solid lead... plug in suter and let him go as long as he can keep them off balance. People talk about not tiring out the pen and I agree. Lets say Anderson goes 6 strong and exits with a lead. Up 1 hader 2 ip knebel ip... up a few... see if suter can close it out and get some run support along the way. He's perfect as a long man... he can easily go 3-4ip. It suits him. We didn't use anyone like that last year. It seems like a nice luxury to have. We have 3 starters. Id rather add 2 short term redemption type contracts that could be flipped when if Burnes Ortiz arrive then push Hader into the starting role before his pitch count per inning drops, his walks drop, and his secondary stuff is thrown for strikes. He's living well on raw stuff. Its hard to do that for more than 5 innings. Moving him takes away a bullpen ace and adds more demand on the pen with short starts. That's a lot of stress added to a pen that can't take it unless it gets a few big additions.
  10. Im hoping he competes with Barnes for 6th or 7th bp arm... not 7th inning. Knebel hader swarzak or player similar puts you past 7th inning need.
  11. I haven't kept up on it like the rest of you but in the piece i saw it sure did seem like he wanted the right fit. It seemed honest almost its as if he doesn't care how big he is...yet... and wants a place to give him a chance to prove he's really the bext babe ruth. I'm rooting for Sea and Oak. Good to see MKE made a serious attempt.
  12. And Fperalta soon enough.
  13. I see i kinda opened a gate here but to clear up. I see a lot of posts about getting that big ace and i feel its way too cost prohibative to do it. Quintana isnt even an ace and he commanded a lot. I'd aim for many above average guys over an ace. Im not calling for the starters to go 4-5 inseason. Saying if we can collect guys in the 3-3.75 range like anderson nelson (was) davies (not far off) maybe woodruff burnes ortiz or a fa redemption gem? We can send them out there hoping to get 6-7 inseason and keep our young controlable big arms (knebel hader williams peralta kodi? Houser?) to take over when ever needed in season. Have a number we trust at any leverage knowing full well that our starters wont see batting rotation 3 in the playoffs when we can lean on that bullpen because we ate innings with solid starters in the regular season and win with the fresh-ish pen in the post. I'd love it if suter went bp long loogy and threw 3-4 innings every 6-7 days. Let him loogy a lh batter in a 1/3 ip between uses on a throw day. Can't start if he can not go 6 ip without taxing the pen so let him untax the pen. I just look back at last year and think how many games we wrecked with a bad and tired pen because garza peralta even suter went 5 or less... and then torres would face 5 retire none and let the blood letting begin. This team has pitching talent for once in the minors and when everyone seems concerned about finding an ace I want a guy who comes cheap and hits 4era and eats innings and i want a charlie morton type add. Anderson morton type davies another inning eater 4 era and woodruff. Fix the damn pen and keep knebel swarzak hader suter and push Fperalta and kodi and houser that way too making jeffress and barnes the 7 or 8. People want an ace... I want 5 of anderson 2 hader 1 peralta 1 knebel... 3 davies 3 suter 1 swarzak 1 peralta 1 knebel... 2-0 series lead. Its awe inspiring to see verlander go complete game but its not nessicary. 1 group has to lift your staff in the playoffs... starters or pen. This team would compete for the playoffs now if not for the black hole that guerra garza peralta torres feliz drake created last year.
  14. Lutz Peralta Burnes are 3 I'd hate to trade. There are more but anyone that immediately produces and steps up levels with ease fascinates me beyond their current market value. People think the world of brinson ray league wide. They're going to be valued fairly in a trade. While guys like Lutz Burnes Peralta have moved into good spots quickly they are also guys who could threaten top billing in the system fast. Rumors put lutz in discussions for our 1st pick. He's not top 100 Huira is. Maybe Lutz should be as well. I'd rather deal marquee prospects in our system at their lofty value than lesser valued high upside young prospects who might not garner the value they deserve. Just a long way of saying... sell at sell high points. Let their value mature. I'd much more easily deal guys like ray, who worry me because they ARE rated very highly and aren't young at their level and aren't producing. Potential galore but they're already valued based on that potential and at some point they need to produce or they become worthless. It's a dumb way of looking at it because talent matters but baseball has so many talents required to be special. Great athletic tools aren't enough. It's wrong to think but phillips showed that he acclimated a bit, and that arm plays so amazingly, that I have more faith in him being a good mlb player than brinson. Ceiling for brinson is very lofty but he also got eaten alive and has a bigger injury past. Fair value for brinson far outweighs fair value for phillips though so I'd cringe more at trading phillips than brinson. 2 others who I'd cringe if they were dealt is Kodi and Feliciano. I just like young players who are producing ahead of their age. (Kodi is streaky and when he's on its pretty, has nasty stuff and if that control ever comes around consistently he's capable of being a beast of a starter or a hand me multiple top 100 prospects for this knockout loogy pen arm. Lottery ticket that's just not worth trading cuz you'll get pennies and it could haunt you)
  15. I wouldn't mind him back. Non-tendored even better. Just a little nervous about bringing back anyone we traded away lately. Gomez fiers lucroy thorny smith all almost immediately fell on their face. If we get him at jeffress price, well guerra peralta and garza were all pretty bad at times so the statement it couldn't hurt has never been truer. Think there has to be better gambles out there though.
  16. Ok so then here's another question. People love aces. I understand why. The direction of playoff baseball is also taking them further and further out of the equation. Knebel hader peralta swarzak xxx. Should we try to get a bunch of 3 to 3.5 era guys for the rotation and a bad boys bullpen or focus on getting that ace. Charlie Morton isnt someone anyone would call an ace but he was pretty fantastic. CC is an ace in name mostly. Yu was awful but he's an ace. Do we think anderson woodruff davies (if he's not in a yips phase) burnes cant get us a strong 4-5 innings?
  17. Anderson davies nelson look like keepers Kids like suter woodruff ortiz hader peralta burnes moving up they system. Guys like jungemann guerra still hanging around. Yet I see a lot of people wanting to buy pitching. Don't we need spaces available to see what we have here? Even if you love a hader peralta to the pen idea and suter to the pen as a long loogy... woodruff nelson burnes ortiz are only 0, .5, .8, and 1.5 years away? I'm all for signing a short term bounce back possible trade chip but I'm having a hard time seeing where the need to add is because adding also is blocking.
  18. Simply getting Santana over to LF would make this OF quite impressive defensively. It's almost a shame we have Braun at all. Phillips in RF broxton/brinson in CF and santana in LF sets up very nicely. Would be nice if Santana or Braun could magically become a solid 1B. It'll be interesting to see how this is handled going forward. Got 2 good prospects on the way and yet we really need santanas stick in that lineup as is. The offense leans very heavily on santana shaw. When they go cold we suck. This stearns era stuff is getting strange. Instead of watching prospects fizzle and never get to the mlb or get dealt for stuff now we are all wondering which ones we should keep and which we piece off. Debating which are at sell high points now or are actually good. Its a nice new problem to have. Its getting pretty close to that with pitching too. Anderson davies nelson woodruff suter burnes ortiz hader peralta... already looking at pushing starter capable arms into the pen. Just strange.
  19. It's so nice to see a mke franchise spend wisely. Good bad or otherwise this is a fantastic contract today. Gm scores another A. It's equally likely that chase shorted himself or we'll regret this at all. It's nice to hope for the best with no true fear of the worst when it comes to spent assets. Initial feeling, thanks Chase. This is a gift.
  20. Hey buddy that third out there was by the guy who gave up the one run his Bat didn't really turn out did it
  21. The offense isn't hitting so put in bad defense make errors and give up runs?
  22. Remember when I went off about putting Villar in center field and I got flack for it
  23. Or two.... great experiment... nothing to lose but the WC
  24. Yeah... balls and strikes dont matter... not worth pointing out.... But if Barnes Ks a guy...and the ump squeezes him out of the k... then the guy hits a hr... i dont want to read 12 posts about how barnes blows... when its pretty clear the blow-er was the ump. Its been quite absurd some games this year... today was a bad one where the strike zone seemed to shrink and expand every half inning. I try to be unbiased... and i find myself going... ok cole just got a K on that... how is a pitch by nelson the next inning... in 4 inches and over the plate a ball. Fact is umps put up 2 runs in the 3rd today. That's an annoying take?... well its also correct and honest.
