  1. You have had one crap take after another this week. Wow man, take a minute and maybe don't watch sports for awhile. I love how people want to kill a guy with a sub 2.7 era. We know what he is. Often a 1 pitch guy. Sometimes wild. It's obvious when he's wild and if you see that and pull him you limit the damage. He's not a closer. He is a pen weapon.
  2. Pen was this team's Achilles Heel all year, and bit them tonight. I'd say the mismanagement of the team has been the heel. That was the case here too. CC seemed perfect all year last year. This year seemed to be a law of averages correction.
  3. You have a pace concern with Football but you like BASEBALL? The flags issue with football is that you could find defensive holding or illegal contact on every play. You could call offensive holding on nearly every play. Every flag is up to the refs to decide if it was impactful enough. And they now rely on review to make the decision for them because they don't want to kill a play and disallow a fumble returned for a TD. The game is too fast for them to see on the field these days. If they put 10 refs in a booth and used camera angles to follow offensive players they could make it happen quick... but that would be expensive.
  4. Pen Knebel Hader Houser Guerra Peralta Black Claudio Faria (long) Devin, Suter (swing), Barker in AAA to start the year. 11 You can keep Albers and put Freddy down to start and make it 12. Woodruff Anderson Davies vet 1 vet 2 is 17 Burnes is 18 but you look to add 2 vets who won't refuse assignment. I'd prefer to see Wilkerson 2 times through an order as a starter but clearly they'll never allow it. 20 Not counting guys who could jump to the majors quickly and aid the pen. Rasmussen Andrews and File? How slow do they want to advance 22 year old Small? Plus there are other talented arms in the system who haven't shown to their potential this year. Jankins, Brown, Supak in AAA. Not saying I'd trust them but that's where you might gain 1 in the 20 deep you need to be. It needs 1 run of the mill RP. Albers would suffice. Jared Hughes would suffice. That type. Maybe even Jeffress could rebound to be that guy. They need 2 vet steady arms. They need 2 flier non roster pitchers or 1 if they trust Wilkerson to do what he's supposed to do. I really don't see organizational depth as a major issue (especially in the pen) next year. We have to stop rushing pitchers into the rotation and this year we banked on 2 young guys who really hurt the team.
  5. I think the panic on this has been wildly overblown. Woodruff Davies Anderson have done their job. Hader Peralta Houser Claudio Guerra Albers have done their job. I have hope for Knebel, Devin, Black, Suter and Barker. There are more young arms coming in behind those. The only FA is Albers. That's 10 guys. The problem was two fold. They didn't have stability and then didn't allow it by shuffling people out of roles where they succeeded. They need 2 stability starters. Chacin (2018), Miley, Gio and even Lyles have been those guys for us. This year everything they threw at the wall exploded. No one could survive that, and this teams in running distance of the division lead. Losing Knebel, Jeffress implosion, Burnes and Peralta starting have destoyed this team this year. It's an analytics design. Those are fragile when player after player has a career worst showing. Every player listed as doing their job is sitting sub 4.05 ERA. 9 of the 13 needed. Team ERA 4.61 Explain that. 635.2 IP Their combined ERA is 3.60 Team ERA in 2018 was 3.73 Get back Knebel. Make Faria/Suter the long man. Replace Albers with Black/Devin/Barker Sign 2 vets who can put up 4 ERA. Like Gio, maybe Lyles. Miley. Like Chacin 2018 version. You don't need much, you just need stability. Go back to 2018 pitching staff in a blink of an eye.
  6. Grandal, hands down no discussion. Losing him puts a huge hole in this lineup. Grisham Hiura Yelich Grandal Braun/Thames. That's the good part of things. Cain is on the fringe. Shaw Arcia P is the meh part of things. If you take Grandal out of that group it gets ugly. I don't see Moose as an essential keep due to his OBP career numbers. We've seen some of his best numbers there. Grandal has been 346 career obp. Moose is 309 despite his 326 in MKE.
  7. I've been pulling for Luke Barker for awhile. His K numbers are going through the roof in AAA.
  8. Do you remember last year? That was only...1 year ago... Yes, and if you remember, Corbin Burnes was great out of the bullpen last year(used as a starter this year, disaster from the beginning), Chacin had a career year(fluky), But he also had a veteran in Wade Miley(ZERO reason he shouldn't have brought him back), and his acquisition of Gio was good(should have brought him back too). He put WAY too much faith in three young arms(plus a terrible Zach Davies) to carry them..No idea what he was thinking...other than he had to be the only one that actually thought that was going to work. Gio NEEDS to be back next year and he NEEDS to find another anchor or two for the rotation. It starts there. Guys that can give you 6 or 7 consistently(or more put guys that he will let go 6 or 7), and run with it. Until he finds that anchor or two for the rotation(to go with Woody), it will be same old same old(unless lightning strikes again). My targets are Gerritt Cole, Stephen Strasburg(if he opts out), Madison Bumgarner, Zach Wheeler and Wade Miley(again) Did you not hear him the 1st time? We absolutely do not need those mammoth contract arms. We proved that last year and point to it in your response. Miley would have been great to have. That's not a big price tag guy. Burnes imploding not only in the rotation but in the pen hurt this team a lot. Woodruff, Davies, Anderson, Gio have absolutely done their jobs. Stay under 4 ERA. If you can pitch over 5 IP per game even better. If we started the year with Miley Woodruff Davies Anderson and Gio... Chacin, Peralta and Burnes wouldn't have destroyed our starters ERA. They tried to push the kids into the rotation. It failed. They didn't have same rotational depth as last year because instead of having vets up to start, they started the kids up. It didn't work, but the LAST THING this franchise needs to do is pay 30mil for 1 pitcher who will be shot by the time the contract ends. Team needs 4 era arms who can last over 5 innings. Team needs to load up their pen with guys who have starter stuff. Houser Peralta Hader is a great start. Hopefully Knebel and Devin Williams can add onto that. Claudio when used right has been good enough as well. That could be 6 of the 8 you need. 3 of the 5 starters needed are in place for next year as well. At this point I would absolutely kill to see this team act like they did last year going forward. Woodruff for 6 Houser for 2 Knebel 1 Anderson for 5 Hader for 2 Claudio .1 Peralta 1.2 Davies for 5.1 Devin for .2 Rasmussen for 2 Knebel for 1 Miley 4 Houser 2 Faria 2 Claudio 1 (cuz its a blowout) Gio 4.2 Devin 1.1 Peralta 1 Hader 1 Knebel 1 With the 26th roster spot... I didn't even use Ray Black I'd kill to see that baseball again. Starters pulled after 2 times through and relievers getting 1 time through or 2 ip. Use the metrics to our advantage. This is one of the reasons you draft college advanced pitching!
  9. They weren't last weekend. And don't be sorry. I just have a hard time criticizing Stearns for this year, and I don't know what deals or moves he COULD have made but DIDN'T make. If the Aguilar and Dubon deals are any indication, we were neither going to get great value by selling our expiring contracts OR by buying a true upgrade. Things are still looking better THIS year AND for future years than they have for 25 out of the past 30 years. What level of something do you need to make it better than nothing?
  10. Didn’t we have a post show that our stats and record are damn sad the same against both hands? Yes, but the premise is flawed anyway. The team is averaging 4.8 runs per game. That up considerably from last year. The runs allowed is up a full run. That's not the story today, but that's the story.
  11. The price of higher expectations and the fact that a large portion of the fanbase does not realize that despite the standings the team is pretty weak. The Brewers need to sell tickets to fans who still believe the team has a decent chance of making the postseason. What is confusing to me is that now is when the media chooses to challenge the decisions the club makes and chooses decisions like CC bringing in Hader on 3 consecutive days to focus on, but I suppose blaming the manager is the most convenient and easy target to explain to the casual fan. That's why you clear space for Grisham and Devin Williams. You sell but you bring up something "exciting" to tell the casual fans, this might not be our year but we are strong long term and we are going to bring some of our future up and hopefully get it done no and then. There's a PR angle for everything.
  12. Nobody trades a fair value for catchers at the deadline and nobody needed a decent third basemen. Tampa, maybe, but we already probably overpaid for Faria so I doubt we get anything better by adding Moose. Buying a real SP upgrade would have cost Turang, Grisham, or young pitching. So we got some pieces for Dubon. That's something. I'm not happy with the team's performance this year, but I think Stearns has done a fine job (other than maybe giving DJ a big raise to keep him (if that would have indeed actually kept him). Selling was the move that would’ve took some guts after last seasons experience but it would’ve been the smart one. We missed it. Getting to watch an all star catcher and 3B finish third in the division are our consolation prize. I would’ve respected the hell out of Stearns for realizing what we are and trying to better us for a possible run next season. Yup. I really wanted Moose and Grandal dealt. I would have even opened up Anderson if pitching prices were driven up. I would have then liked him to buy a little filler at C and 1b/3b. Grandal Moose out for the best prospects we can get. Filler in for rule 5 available stuff. That was the play. Don't quit, don't buy, prepare for 2020.
  13. Agreed. Cut the fat (no pun intended) that won’t be here next season and try to find a mixture that will be. Can I see Luke Barker get a cup of coffee? I want to see Wilkerson get his chance to start but there is absolutely zero reason to have him in the pen. We already know that doesn't work.
  14. Vastly earned as a starter. He's had 2 mediocre outings heading into this bad one but he entered today at 2.52 out of the pen. Bad time to have no control but I don't question going to him in a 2-1 deficit as much as I do going to Guerra in a tie game. Why did we trade for Pom?
  15. We agree on something... so it must be true? Houser has been fantastic in the pen for us this year and not having him in the pen today likely cost us a game. I don't think people realize how much this pen would improve if we had Houser Peralta Hader eating 6 inning every 3-4 games. The team misses Knebel and Jeffress closing the door. But it also misses roaming Hader, Woodruff and Burnes.
  16. This is a very valid concern, that I completely overlooked.
  17. That's on CC he's always stuck with what he knew, even if he knew it was bad. You throw in Pom for the heart... hope some scrub(s) can get the bottom.
  18. It really was. He took the garbage. HE defended the plate on a pitch that could have been a strike and it worked. If he keeps that up he'll go on a tear.
