  1. Just because it’s not a big name guy doesn’t mean it doesn’t improve the team. Faria has some real promise. He could be a staple in the rotation for multiple years. I think that’s pretty valuable return for a guy people were talking about DFA’ing a month ago. I’m glad that Stearns is making moves to better us for years to come and not putting everything on the line for THIS year only and mortgaging the future.
  2. Looks like we have Faria for 4.5 years. I like this trade quite a bit. Lengthy control of a solid looking pitcher and eliminates the first base log jam. The one big red flag for me is the walks. BB/9 of 4 is a little high for my liking. Hopefully Braun moves to first base next season mostly full time as I feel that gives Stearns the option to get a good look at Grisham in the outfield in 2020 or to make a splash in free agency.
  3. Really don’t want Leake and his $15 million contract for next season, PLUS he has a $5 million buyout for 2021. I would much rather have the financial flexibility in the offseason to make moves than to be tied in to Leake. Even if the Mariners pay for the buyout and throw in another $5 million, is Leake really worth $10 million for next year or would you rather have that money available to be used toward a front of the rotation guy, a solid impact bat, or a couple good bullpen pieces?
  4. Great story. Love hearing things like this involving guys within the organization. Best of luck to Ponce!
  5. Why would a team like KC trade a 24 year old? If the Royals were going to be in a rebuild for a number of years still, it would make a lot of sense to sell high on a pitcher. If they aren’t truly competing for 3 years or so, is it worth keeping him through the tough years and now needing to pay him large arby raises and/or him walking away for nothing right when they start competing again? Or they could add a few guys in A or AA, have them make the MLB in 2021 or 2022 and have 6+ years of control of promising young players right when the big club is starting to be competitive. Prospects are only prospects, but it’s something they could consider. If the Brewers were entering a full tear down, I would hope guys like Hader and Davies would be moved. Keeping Hader through a multi year rebuild and paying him $15-$18 million his final year of arbitration right when we are trying to compete again instead of cashing in early and getting a haul would really disappoint me (obviously just an example). I personally don’t see the Royals being much of a playoff threat for a number of years. I just think it’s wise to cash in and get 6+ years of a couple promising prospects than to carry a guy through a rebuild when he has a ton of value and then needing to pay him pretty extensively coming out of a rebuild where he only has 1 or 2 years left of control.
  6. I don’t see Grisham being moved unless it’s for a guy under contract for multiple years. Even for Yates, I wouldn’t be comfortable moving on from Grisham. But that’s just my opinion. If we are open to moving Grisham, I would prefer him being moved for a starter we would have for 2.5 years or more.
  7. What about a guy like Brad Keller from Kansas City? I believe they would have him for 4.5 years. Keeps the ball in the ballpark and just turned 24 years old. He walks quite a few guys, but has a lot of room to grow and mature still. He’s an interesting option that I haven’t seen anybody mention yet. Would be nice to have a guy like him to pair with Woodruff in the rotation for a few years.
  8. Sadly, I think this is something that is becoming much more likely. That $4 million could be used on a solid bullpen arm or back of the rotation guy instead of risking it on a guy hoping that he finds himself again 3 years after his injury.
  9. Syndergaard has been unimpressive the past two seasons. I like the guy, and would love to have him, but feel he is deeply over rated... Let me ask this hypothetically, would you trade Hiura if you could get DeGrom instead of Syndergaard?? Absolutely not. If you’re interested in getting an ace, sign 28 year old Gerrit Cole in the offseason for 6/$160 instead of giving up 6+ years of a young middle of the order bat for a 31 year old on a 5/$137.5 million contract as it is. Makes no sense to waste resources to take on a huge contract when you could go get one on a similar deal in the offseason without giving up your future all-star second baseman.
  10. Make that double baby!!
  11. I, for one, welcome our new insect overloards. http://i.imgur.com/ygpPhRl.jpg I suspect an upcoming name change to “NeedMoreAnts” is in order!
  12. Looks like Senzel may be sick and was removed from the game right after singling in the first.
  13. Really like this move too. Hopefully a change of scenery helps him settle in and be a productive NBA player. I think he’s a much better shooter than what he has shown so far in his young career with Sacramento. He sure could shoot when he was at Kansas.
  14. Big Sexy is still out of a job. Just imagine Colon in a Brewers uniform. Bat him leadoff too right?!
  15. LOVE the Korver signing. Knock down shooter like him will be huge for us all year, but could be a key piece to putting us over the top. Career 43% three point shooter? Sign me up!
  16. Johan Belisario is someone I’m keeping an eye on the rest of the way. He has done very well so far in AA, but got lit up in his first appearance at AAA. If he can keep pitching well, I wonder if he would be deemed worthy of a 40 man spot after the season.
  17. Yes this creeps me out every game I go to. They all seem to have fingers hovering over the trigger too Warning Track Power, I’m not exactly sure how you would prefer them handling it other than in their hands. I’m honestly curious what you would prefer them to do with it if holding it is intimidating? Brooks, if you were to hold a gun similar to the one that MPD is carrying, your hand would be holding the grip, which is right by the trigger. It may appear that their finger is hovering over the trigger since their hand is on the grip right next to the trigger, but that’s just where your hand has to be placed to be able to pull the trigger if needed. I can assure you that they aren’t just hovering their finger over the trigger. Their trigger finger (which is what you’re referring to) is resting above the trigger or on the trigger guard since that’s really the only way to in a way “relax” your hand when holding a rifle.
  18. I like it in theory, but don't know if I want to add any pressure to Hiura. I think I'd prefer to more slowly inch him up. I'm guessing we'll see Braun and Hiura flipped. I personally would go Aguilar 3rd, Hiura 5th, Braun 6th. I think it could be too much pressure on a rookie to have Hiura hit 3rd or 4th and expect him to be one of the guys to carry the offense. When he has hit 4th or 5th this season, he is 5-27. He is 33-93 when hitting lower in the lineup. It’s a small sample size, but it’s something to consider when talking about a 22 year old rookie and putting him in a spot to be the main run producer. I could see him getting bumped up to 5th possibly, but I think it’ll be around season’s end or next season before we see him in the 3 or 4 spot consistently.
  19. How would people feel about a 4/$120 million contract extension for Yelich? How about a 5/$150 million contract that begins in 2022 with the club option year turning into a $30 million guarantee? Yelich may take a deal similar to that since he will be 31 at the time of his next contract if he plays his current contract out. I think it may be a little early to extend Yelich. I would look to do it after the 2020 season if he has another unbelievable season. If he continues to produce at this level, I would feel comfortable extending him through his age 34 season. If we were to extend Yelich, what would you feel comfortable with years wise, but also money wise in tying yourself up financially to one guy?
  20. One way to look at it is many of the pitching coaches in the minor leagues (who must share some of the blame for the organizations inability to develop its own pitching) are holdovers from the Doug Melvin years. Chris Hook jumped from being a pitching coach in the independent leagues in 2008 to AA with the Brewers in 2009 and has worked his way up to pitching coach for the major league club. AAA pitching coach Fred Dabney has been a pitching coach for Milwaukee at every level of their minor leagues since joining the organization in 2004. AA pitching coach Dave Chavarria has been with the Brewers organization as a pitching coach since 2012. Low A pitching coach Steve Cline has been with the Brewers organization as a pitching coach since 2001. Helena Pitching coach Rolando Valles has been coaching pitchers for the Brewers organization since 2014. They've developed but a handful of pitchers in the last 25 years, and the GM who presumably has authority to fire any and all of the, has not only kept his predecessors coaches but has actually promoted most of them. So the lack of homegrown pitching can be distilled to: poor drafting/talent evaluation and/or poor coaching/instruction both of which fall on the GM. Great post. I’m hoping that Stearns starts to turn over some of the pitching coaches in the minors that have been here for a long time. The inability to develop starting pitching for as long as we have is a major issue. We should be able to develop a solid starting pitcher more than once every 5-7 years.
  21. Oh my gosh, Aramis Ramirez has learned how to time travel!
  22. According to that trade value chart, if the Giants were interested in Dubon, it would take having to add another prospect in the caliber of Henry, Feliciano or Erceg to get it done evenly. And, this is why I hate trading for high value rental players! Is trading away this type of young talent really worth 2 months of a reliever? Especially for a guy like Will Smith who has a track record of regression during the 2nd halves of seasons? I could get behind the idea of trading Dubon and either Henry/Feliciano for a guy that we had an additional year of control of, but for 2 months - this seems preposterous to me! Yeah, there’s no way they should be giving up that kind of value for a rental reliever.
  23. I agree with this completely. I could see guys like Arcia or Davies being had as well for the right price. I don’t see us keeping Davies long term and he has enough control to be a valuable piece to trade off. Arcia is easily replaceable in my opinion by a guy like Jose Iglesias on the free agent market, but could possibly draw interest from some teams. Hader I would float out there, but would only move him if I was blown away with an offer. Yelich and Woodruff won’t be moved. Then they should put Peralta and Burnes in the rotation to gain experience heading into 2020. There are too many holes in the entire pitching staff and the offense is too homerun reliant to score runs on a consistent basis.
