  1. Feel bad for Nelson after working for so long to make it back and to get news like this. Hopefully it ends up being not serious, but there is very real concern about his elbow. It’ll be very disappointing if his career is cut short right when he turned the corner and looked like he was going to be leading the staff for years to come. The DH can’t come to the NL soon enough.
  2. the way i see it, the brewers have only 54 more games where they are hampered by a 25-man roster. come 1 september, it can expand to 40. and come opening day 2020, it's 26. thus, the brewers really just have to be patient for the next 54 games with aguilar . . . Exactly this. I don’t see Aguilar being DFA’d this season. The rosters expand to 26 next season and having a guy like Aguilar on the roster becomes much less of an issue as early as next season. He’s been swinging the bat a little better recently as well. The real concern is the lack of power so far this season. It would be tough to give up on a guy who was an All-Star last season and get nothing in return. Definitely shocked that Perez was DFA’d though. I’m sure there will be interest in his services and the Brewers will get some type of lottery ticket for him. Very excited to have Hiura back on the roster to continue raking! He has a special bat that we haven’t had come through the system since Braun first burst onto the scene. I’m a fan of Saladino and believe that he will have a very nice second half of the season for us. He’s a late bloomer that I think could be a solid bench/utility guy for us for a few years. I liked Perez, but I have no doubt that Saladino will slide in and produce at least to the level that Perez was, while having more upside with the bat.
  3. Counsell will probably split up the lefties and Grandal so I could see a lineup similar to this: CF Cain RF Yelich LF Braun 3B Moose 1B Aguilar C Grandal 2B Hiura SS Arcia P Woodruff Aguilar has been playing well recently and I don’t see Counsell putting Hiura in front of Grandal in the order, but that would be the only switch that I think could happen. If Thames is starting at 1st, I would shift Grandal and Hiura up in the order and put Thames 7th behind Hiura.
  4. Looking forward to seeing what Hiura can do! I would assume he will be in the lineup as long as he’s up.
  5. Hard to keep Woodruff out of the 4 hole with his success against Quintana. He’s gotta be in there today.
  6. Brogdon- Number one in my eyes and it’s not that close. Lopez- 7 footer that protects the rim and can hit threes is a must have with Giannis on the team. He fits Bud’s scheme perfectly. Middleton Hill Mirotic I would be very pleased if they retained all 4 excluding Middleton. Brogdon has more to offer offensively if given the opportunity and I don’t think the loss of Middleton would be much of a loss on the offensive end of the floor as I think Bledsoe, Brogdon, Hill, Mirotic, and DiVincenzo are enough to overcome the loss of Middleton.
  7. Big congratulations to Mike Fiers. He was always a steady guy in the rotation that you could count on to keep you in the game. Glad to see him continuing to be successful with other organizations.
  8. Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals! This sure is a special team. Love the way they play together and mesh both on and off the court.
  9. Looks like Brogdon is expected to play tonight. Great news for the Bucks! Not sure where they are at for a minutes restriction on him, but I would guess he’s only going to play 12-15 minutes to ease him back in and see how his foot holds up.
  10. I think it would be pretty easy to remove Saladino or Spangenberg from the 40 man. Personally I would prefer holding onto Saladino. There are a couple pitchers that could very easily be removed from the 40 man as well. I don’t think it would be too hard to find a spot for Hiura. This, the focus of the big league club has to be on putting the best team on the field to win and if guys aren’t producing, changes need to be made. Thames hitting the IL wouldn’t have Hiura taking at bats from anyone. Shaw platoons at first with Aguilar and Moose stays at third. If Shaw is demoted, Hiura slots right in at second with Moose at third. If our entire roster was healthy, the one guy that would really be losing at bats is Thames, which I don’t think is a big loss. He is only owed roughly $4.5 million the rest of the way and could probably be moved now fairly easily. If Hiura comes up and hits .250, it’s a big upgrade to our lineup. People will expect more production than that, but if he can even manage that, he’s a big upgrade from what we’ve been throwing out there the first quarter of the season.
  11. I’m assuming he was talking about Moose at 3rd, Shaw/Aggy at 1st, and Huira at 2nd. Yes, this is what I was picturing in my head. Shaw needs to be platooned and I think moving him to first to platoon with Aguilar is the ideal situation right now. I think in the offseason, the Brewers will consider moving Shaw to first mostly full time and platooning him with Aguilar. They would then end up signing Moose again or possibly someone else to play everyday at third base.
  12. Looks like Thames may have tweaked his groin in the 9th inning tonight fielding a ground ball down the first base line. Gotta wonder if Hiura would be a possibility if Thames hits the IL.
  13. Thames is going to fly away whipping the bat around over his head like a helicopter every time he swings tonight...
  14. 97 for Peralta on that strikeout of Rendon! Nice to see him pick up a few ticks on his fastball!
  15. I thought I saw somewhere that after last night, Shaw has the lowest average in either the NL or in all of baseball so far this season. I see after Aguilar’s first out in the game, they were both down to .174... Pretty remarkable how we could have the two worst hitters in the league who were both expected to be important middle of the order bats, but here we are sitting at 21-16. Those two really need to start producing.
  16. I can see your point with the trade you mentioned, but Greinke was still an ace at the time of the Brewers trading him and I would say Bumgarner is in a tier below where Greinke was at the time. Add in the fact that Greinke brought in a prospect in the 50-60 range and Hiura is pretty much a lock to be a top 10 prospect in the upcoming rankings, and that’s where the significant difference is. Those top guys are much too valuable to be traded for a rental. There are very few guys I would even consider including Hiura for. If I had to pick one, it would probably be Blake Snell from the Rays who would be under contract for another 4 years at a very reasonable contract similar to Yelich’s contract.
  17. Per Stearns on Jimmy’s status: “He’s probably got a couple more (starts) to go before we can realistically start talking about him here in Milwaukee . . . we think he can be a real benefit to our rotation . . . we’re looking forward to getting him back here hopefully over the next month”.
  18. The thing with continuing to wait on Hiura until Super 2 passes is the impact he could of had for us in the next month or so before then. Could he of made the difference in us winning 2 more games in that span? We all know how important each game is. Look at how 2017 and 2018 worked out for us the final weekend. I understand waiting to save some money, but Hiura is going to be an immediate impact bat like Braun was, with less power early on in his career than Braun had. Hiura is the most legit prospect we have had since Braun. Hiura coming up now/very soon or coming up another 30 games from now could be the difference between making the playoffs and not making it, especially with the struggles Shaw has had so far this season.
  19. Don’t look now, but I said that baseball will start to go back to less homeruns and putting the ball in play more to manufacture runs. They won yesterday 5-3 and didn’t hit as much as a single homerun. The changes have already begun and it happened a day before your creative pitching shenanigans were implemented. Should of hopped on my bandwagon earlier. I win .
