It could definitely happen, we are on a pretty long slide here, you will see it brought up again if they don't turn this around. NOT going to happen..You think Mark A/Stearns want to try to explain to fans why they are selling?? They didn't sign Grandal/Moose in the off season to sell. MAYBE MAYBE if they are like 5-6 games back going into that last week..they might sell a minor piece or two, but more likely I'd bet they just play out the stretch with what they have. That’s how a small market team like Milwaukee would end up in a long rebuild. The Brewers’ minors is weak and the big league club isn’t performing. They have a few valuable pieces on one year deals that could net some decent prospects. Being a middle of the road team, finishing a few games outside the playoffs, and letting the players walk away at the end of the season with nothing to show for it is a bigger wasted opportunity.
-
I’m sorry, but anybody still vouching for us to buy and think that a bullpen piece or two plus a starter is going to fix this is sadly mistaken. Even if you add a couple guys and have 2-3 good relievers with the rest pitching this poorly, you still won’t win many games. This is a retooling season and there’s no way around it. Get some prospects to help replenish the farm and have more prospects to be moved for additional help in the offseason or next trade deadline if we are in it. Buying this season would leave us very barren in the minors anyway.

Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs passes away
RollieTime replied to Jopal78's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Yep! His mom threw out the first pitch too. Very cool! And after celebrating the no hitter, all of the Angels players took their jersey’s off and placed them on the mound to honor Skaggs. What a special night for that organization! -
Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs passes away
RollieTime replied to Jopal78's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The Angels honored Tyler Skaggs before the game tonight in their first home game since he passed away. With all of the players on the Angels wearing Tyler’s name and number on the back of their jersey’s, they threw a combined no hitter. Very special moment tonight for the Angels organization, the Skaggs family, and baseball fans all across the sport. What a truly spectacular moment. -
Maintain the 6 years of control, but have 4 years of arbitration instead of 3 for every player is a good start. But that could lead to more players being non-tendered though if they don’t show much improvement their first 2 or 3 years. The MLBPA probably wouldn’t like so many “vets” not getting contracts though and teams bringing up prospects hoping to save a few million instead of paying a guy a few million if he isn’t very productive.

Mets and Brewers talking Thor?
RollieTime replied to HarveysWBs's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
This is something I’ve been wondering all year too with Brown. After seeing Peralta come up last year and struggle with his off speed offerings, I’ve wondered if the Brewers are putting a heavier focus on having their pitchers throw more off speed pitches in their starts than ever before to get a better feel for them. I don’t follow the minor leagues other than checking box scores so I’m not really sure if this is true, but it is definitely a fair point to bring up. -
You also fail to realize that they only were rebuilding for 2 seasons (15 and 16) where their payroll was still roughly $100 million from aging vets and expensive players. The payroll was only really slashed for one season (2017) and the Brewers ended up having a good season that year, signaling their “rebuild” was essentially already over. So his one year of having a low payroll isn’t an extended period where he pocketed tens of millions of dollars year after year. It was one single season of a very low payroll. The payroll is at an all-time high already and up almost FORTY million from the start of the 2018 season. But why listen to facts when you can spit your opinion in every single thread over and over again as fact, trolling the entire board, and derail every thread.

Watching the Bucks’ Summer League team tonight for the first time, Matt Farrell seems like an interesting guy to watch. He is only 6’1, but I could see him at least making the team as a third string point guard. He sees the floor well, great passer, and hits his open shots. He isn’t fast, but has a quick first step similar to Brogdon. Farrell looks like a leader whenever he’s on the court. How has he looked in the other games so far? I wouldn’t expect him to be a big scorer, but if he could play 10 minutes per game if needed, hit an open shot or two, and set some guys up with open shots, I wouldn’t mind him being one of the last guys on the bench.

Is it time to consider moving Hader
RollieTime replied to brewers888's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
If we could get a package like that from the Dodgers, sign me up! Obviously losing Hader in the pen would be a huge blow. There is nothing wrong with taking a step back for one season, bringing in a ton of young talent, and being set up nicely heading into 2020. A big part of why I don't think Hader moves is...I don't think the Dodgers pony up an offer like that. I suspect they'd probably prefer to go after someone like Thor with a package that spectacular, and probably also try to get Diaz. I actually think the Dodgers and Mets match up really well for a massive blockbuster trade for Thor + Diaz...especially with the noted pressure/closing window and the Padres longstanding interest in Thor. The Dodgers could go that route, but I don’t think they need to strengthen their rotation any more than it is currently. You only need 3, possibly 4 guys to make it through the playoffs. They know and the Brewers know that the Dodgers will be in the playoffs and a shutdown reliever is something every team needs and something the Dodgers really don’t have. They have a bunch of solid guys, but nobody near as dominant as Hader. With Hader under control for 4.5 seasons, the Brewers have all the leverage. Either they can step up and give Stearns what he wants otherwise we move on. There are no other Hader’s out there for them to acquire. And absolutely no “need” to move him right now. Stearns literally has all the power in negotiations for Hader right now. On a different note, Yelich won’t be going anywhere. He’s a guy you build your team around, not trade away. There’s a big difference between trading away one of the top hitters in the game and a shutdown relief pitcher in my opinion. It’s easier to replace bullpen arms at a reasonable rate on the free agent market and have them produce than to get a position player for cheap thinking that he will turn into an All-Star. -
Is it time to consider moving Hader
RollieTime replied to brewers888's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
This won't happen, but for pure speculation purposes...I think something like Verdugo + Lux + Smith could be interesting, also add in them taking Braun and his contract. No way the Dodgers would be willing to give that up, but I think it has to be something like that to give up Hader. All those guys are either MLB ready or in the upper minors and very close to MLB ready. If we could get a package like that from the Dodgers, sign me up! Obviously losing Hader in the pen would be a huge blow. There is nothing wrong with taking a step back for one season, bringing in a ton of young talent, and being set up nicely heading into 2020. Verdugo would slot into right or left field for 5 years with Yelich playing the other corner outfield spot. We can move Braun to 4th outfielder, first base, and PH for his last season with us without him really being a liability with the extra roster spot beginning next season. The Dodgers are really starting to feel pressure to win a World Series and could make an all-in trade like this to put them over the top. The Dodgers have a very deep lineup where even if they move Verdugo, they would still field one of the top offenses in the game. They’ve had pretty poor production from 2nd this season as well and may want Moose included in a trade. Brewers receive: OF Alex Verdugo SS/2B Gavin Lux C/3B Will Smith 1B/3B Edwin Rios LHP John Rooney Dodgers receive: LHP Josh Hader 2B Mike Moustakas This trade would give the Brewers Verdugo to slot into the outfield for 5+ years, a highly regarded prospect in Lux, an MLB ready young catcher, and a couple other intriguing prospects. I could see Moose resigning with us in the offseason as well, similar to KRod. The Brewers can head into 2020 with Verdugo, Cain, and Yelich in the outfield. With Moose/Shaw, Arcia/Lux, Hiura, and Aguilar/Braun/Moose at first. Now this is getting way ahead of myself, but the Brewers would be very lefty heavy for hitters if they went this route, but if they were to let Thames and Grandal walk, you free up $25 million. I’m a big fan of Anthony Rendon. If the Brewers could get him for 5/$125, I would be interested in him. He would be a big right handed bat to add to the lineup and allow Shaw to be the backup at third and play first with Braun. CF Cain LF Yelich 3B Rendon RF Verdugo 2B Hiura 1B Moose C Pina/Will Smith from Dodgers trade SS Arcia/possibly Lux? P This would have Shaw, Braun, and Aguilar on the bench. As we know, there are always guys getting off days and injuries coming up where there would be plenty of opportunities for at-bats for everyone. But that would be a very exciting lineup that would have everybody with 3+ years of control and some great young talent that could step up and really contribute. -
I think we've mentioned this before here but Trout is arguably going to be the best player in the history of the game and is probably underrated. I went to a Brewers game when the Angels were in town I think 3 years ago just to watch him play in person. It’s a must to see Trout play in person at least once since he could arguably be the best baseball player ever when he finally retires.

The last few seasons before Selig sold the team, he was normally in the $40 million range for payroll, bottom 10 in payroll almost every season. His final season as owner in 2004, the payroll was just over $27 million, dead last in the MLB. With Mark at the helm, it’s over $127 million this season, currently 16th in MLB. He has literally increased the payroll over $100 million since he took over as owner. That’s all that needs to be said to show how much Mark wants to see the Brewers be successful.

Hopefully Arcia is ok, but it is very exciting to see what Dubon can do at the big league level. We could sure use a spark right now. Hopefully Dubon can be just that.

Is it time to consider moving Hader
RollieTime replied to brewers888's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Sure there is. Relievers are so volatile. Edwin Diaz was every bit as good as Hader was last year, if not better and now he has an ERA pushing 6 with a FIP of around 4 and is giving up hard contact nearly half the time. Same is true for Blake Treinen and Jose Leclerc and Jose Alvarado and Jeurys Familia and Joakim Soria and Jeremy Jeffress and Dellin Betances. Yup. I suggested trading Knebel the last two offseasons now and it really would of been wise to do so. He was bad most of last season before the final month. He probably regained most of his value back by being so dominant late in the year and in the postseason. Now he is missing all of this season. For the Brewers to have continued success, they need to make moves to keep filtering young talent into the organization. Trading relief pitchers after career years is a fantastic way of doing that. Moving guys like Tyler Thornburg, Knebel, and Hader is something the Brewers should continue exploring each and every offseason. With Hader’s odd throwing motion and how hard he pitches, he is definitely a TJ candidate in his career. If he needs TJ surgery in June of next year and can’t pitch in the postseason for us in 2020 and misses all of 2021 as well, now you’re down to 2 years of control and his value at rock bottom. The window of opportunity to cash in on him would be gone. There’s a lot to consider in regards of what to do with Hader. -
This completely. Lepay is solid, but Plesac was just bad as a color commentator. You could tell he was trying way to hard and would ramble on and on. I love listening to him on MLB Network though. I’ve listened to a bunch of other television broadcasts from other teams around the league and it is pretty eye opening just how bad other broadcasts are. We are lucky to have BA and Bill. There are 162 games a year where they need to talk for more than 3 hours per day about baseball. Phrases, stats, information, and stories are going to be repeated all the time.

Is it time to consider moving Hader
RollieTime replied to brewers888's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
The problem is that I don't think this package is even remotely reasonable. Alvarez is the number 11 prospect in baseball right now. Martin and Bukauskas are ranked 48th and 98th respectively. Beer will probably be in the 75-100 range when the next rankings come out. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to get 1 top 15 guy and 3 guys in the 50-100 range for 4.5 seasons (5 postseason runs) of the top reliever in the game. The Brewers have the most sought after reliever in the game playing at the league minimum. The Astros could turn around and move him with 2 years left on his contract and get a couple highly regarded prospects back down the road. I don’t think I would want to move Hader right now with 4.5 years of control, but a package like that would be hard to turn down. -

RollieTime replied to brewers888's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Let’s say you could get a package like this right now for Hader. OF Yordan Alvarez RHP Corbin Martin RHP J.B. Bukauskas 1B Seth Beer You get 6 years of a power hitting lefty to play in left field, having your outfield locked up for 4 years. Martin you could slot into the rotation right away and let him continue to develop at the MLB level. Hoping that he heads into 2020 as a mainstay in the rotation. Bukauskas has the makings of being a dominant relief pitcher and could slot into the bullpen mid-season 2020. Beer would give the Brewers a legit first base prospect, something that they do not have in the minors or at the MLB level for that matter. Assuming that the Brewers retain one of Grandal or Moose after this season, you could head into 2020 with a 1-5 of: CF Cain RF Yelich 2B Hiura LF Alvarez 3B Moose/C Grandal Hiura and Alvarez would each have 6 years of control. Pairing those two with Yelich for multiple years would give the Brewers a very strong young nucleus to build around with your main 3 guys making under $17 million combined each of the next 3 seasons. Braun’s contract would be off the books the following season and allow Stearns to go out and get another big bat to add to the mix. Having 4+ years of control of Woodruff, Burnes, Peralta, Martin, and Bukauskas to pair with Nelson if he returns and Davies, would give the Brewers a lot to be excited about on the pitching side as well. The selling of Hader isn’t the start of a rebuild. It’s retooling the roster to add a cheap impact bat like Alvarez for 6 years while adding other high end talent to the system. I can tell you one thing though. 6 years of Hiura and Alvarez hitting in the middle of the lineup with Yelich is pretty dang exciting. -
Is it time to consider moving Hader
RollieTime replied to brewers888's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I think it’s a little early to look at moving him. We still have him for 4.5 years of control. I think if you were to move him now or move him after the 2020 season when he still has 3 years of control left, you would get a very similar package as long as he continues to produce. He is almost so valuable that it’s hard to even get fair value for a player like Hader with the value he provides for the price you need to pay him. I would be open to moving him now if some team blows you away with 4 top 100 guys with 2 of them in the top 25 or something, but how many teams would be willing to move that many prospects or even have the trade capital to pull it off? The Rays, Braves, Astros, and Dodgers are the teams that I could think of with strong enough farm systems to get a trade done while also being in a lengthy contention window where a trade from their perspective would make sense. This is a great topic to consider since moving a guy like Hader could completely change the future outlook of an organization with how much young talent that can be brought into the system in a single trade. The Brewers’ farm system could go from bottom third to top 8 in a single trade. I just think it may be a little premature to move Hader. -
I hope that MLB goes back to the Home Run Derby format of the past where you had the 10 outs and could hit as many homeruns before accumulating 10 non-homeruns. The whole timed thing and receiving awarded bonus time and needing to wait for the ball to hit the ground before the next pitch is thrown is stupid in my opinion. I used to enjoy the Home Run Derby before the format change, but now it’s hard to even watch.

2019 July 2 International Signing Rumors
RollieTime replied to JDBrewCrew's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
If you sign the entire country, you won’t miss out on any top prospects from there! -
I would say that each individual biker needs to stop and only one goes through at a time, similar to if there was a line of cars at a 4 way intersection. Multiple cars from one side can’t all go together because they need to stop at the stop sign. If anything, they should have just waved you through and went through after you.
