  1. Jake Cousins hasn't exactly been terrible. And we're up 10.5 games. This game isn't *that* important. It sure as heck is to the Reds and Phillies.
  2. About the only thing I am thinking is that one of these guys swinging wildly might actually run into one by mistake and send it out.
  3. The Cardinals are winning on a run they scored without the benefit of a hit. Lead off walk. Stolen base. Sacrifice. Sacrifice. Baseball is a great game. But sometimes watching it sucks. Meanwhile the Brewers put runners on, and they get stranded at 1st.
  4. This is really annoying to watch. It's like the whole lineup decided to go in a slump at the same time. Just a bunch of lazy fly balls and easy grounders.
  5. Sounds like they are trying to get him onto their practice squad, but he's most likely going to find a home elsewhere on a 53 man roster with a bigger TE need....whether that be a direct waiver claim or simply going to a different team's practice squad. Pretty much a wasted 3rd round draft pick a couple years ago - injuries at bad times limited his development, especially in 2019. Another case of "what could have been." Fortunately Robert Tonyan has become what Sternberger could have been.
  6. Agreed 100%. I don't mind limiting innings on certain pitchers, but healthy bats need to play. Also maybe Cain doesn't have to dive into walls over the next 2 weeks, that ball can just drop and that's fine for now. Other than that, guys need to start playing like the games matter. Telling a Gold Glove CF not to go all-out in the interest of health is probably not going to be real effective, either. Cain has been an effort guy his whole career. I doubt he's going to let up now.
  7. Logic tells me I should agree with you. That team is definitely not built for a postseason run. But my heart wants Cardinal fans to suffer by missing out on the playoffs completely. Plus, you know, Devil Magic.
  8. He did seem to have a good camp. He put on weight, though, and seems a step slow so far. It might be time for them to see what they have in Slaton and Heflin. Definitely need some more energy out of those DT/DE spots, and they aren't getting it with Keke, Lowry and Lancaster.
  9. Agreed - I think they have a decent shot at beating the 49ers simply because their backfield is decimated by injuries once again and I'm not sure Lance is ready to make enough plays offensively to beat a team that should be able to score 25+ points against their defense. I think the 49ers are a bit overrated because of what they were as a team in 2019 is the assumption they are still that talented of a roster - but they've lost key players on both sides of the ball and their quarterback still has training wheels on. That being said, the Packers definitely have got to find a way to shore up their DL and MLB problems, or San Fran may just run the triple option Sunday night and keep the game between the tackles to see if GB can stop it. Garoppolo is still the 49ers starter. I don't know if Lance even played a snap against the Eagles.
  10. Other than Old Man Wainright, this Cardinals rotation resembles the crap that the Brewers ran out there in the late '90s-early '00s. There is absolutely no reason why the offense shouldn't be able to score runs on this team. Let's get a couple of these over the next few days, put this division stuff to bed, then start gearing up for the playoffs. I certainly wouldn't mind playing spoiler for the Cardinals, but that requires one of those other teams in the WC hunt to actually step up.
  11. Shaping up to be a lot of shootouts this year. Kenny Clark is the only good NFL player in the middle of the defense. Barnes and Campbell are just guys at ILB, which is probably an improvement on past seasons, but not a good thing if they want to field a solid defense this year. I was expecting and MVS breakout this year after all the talk about him changing his work habits, plus him being in a contract year. But for some reason they are only targeting him on fly routes, and none have connected yet.
  12. You aren't wrong. It most definitely IS time to get things over with. But that is the frustrated, impatient fan in me talking. This team is getting healthy again. Hopefully Adames finds his groove, and they can get Taylor up soon to provide another solid OF bat, and get the lineup going again. It would be nice if Narvaez came out of his funk as well.
  13. That's pretty much where I'm at, too, regarding Yelich. I wish there was something obvious to point to to explain his season, but it's tough without going down a conspiratorial rabbit hole. But if he finally finds something and figures it out in October, all would be forgiven.
  14. If they don't, it will obviously cause some consternation among the fanbase. But in the scheme of the season, it isn't likely to matter. The Cardinals are on a hot streak. They'll cool off ... simply because they aren't an overly talented club. They are playing WAY over their heads right now. Their starting rotation is being held together by duct tape and binder twine. They are getting timely hits, and eeking out a lot of close wins. It will eventually catch up with them. Because it's baseball.
  15. If they have a better offense than the Brewers, they haven’t shown it over the course of the season. The Cardinals rank 24th in MLB in runs scored per game (4.24), just behind the Royals and just ahead of the Dbacks, Orioles, Mets, Marlins, Rangers, and Pirates. The Brewers are 10th overall in runs scored per game (4.64) and 5th best in the NL. These Cardinals takes tonight feel like the epitome of recency bias. They’ve had a good stretch lately, but they’ve also had their share of struggles throughout the season. A few weeks ago the Braves were the hot team in the NL and everyone in the AL was saying “here come the Yankees.” Then their hot streaks ended and those teams went back to being something more closely resembling what they’ve been over the course of the season. I expect something similar from the Cardinals. Exactly. The Reds did the same thing in July, and many a poster here was ready to crown them division champs. It's a 162-game season. Teams get hot and cold. But in the end, talent wins out. And the Brewers are a substantially more talented team than the Cardinals.
  16. This division race should be done by now. I'm sick of having to follow the Reds (well not so much anymore because they suck). I'm sick of the Cardinals winning every game in September. I don't want to have to continue following them and, God forbid, have to cheer for the Cubs this weekend if the Brewers can't wrap this thing up this week. I'm sick of watching the Cardinal lineup full of Creatine bros like Tyler O'Neil, Harrison Bader and Tommy Edman, not to mention Arenado, who in true Cardinal fashion they got from the Rockies for basically nothing. It is time for a couple of these Brewers starting pitchers to throw a couple gems and get this thing over with. It's time to hang 10 on these crappy Cardinal starters. I realize that, barring a historic collapse combined with a historic Cardinal run, the division race is done. It has been for awhile now. But enough is enough! *rant over
  17. If the teams behind the Cardinals are looking to the Brewers to play spoiler, they are probably in for a disappointment. Given their desire to rest players with minor injuries and to manage workloads for their pitchers heading into the playoffs, I don’t see the Brewers winning more than 2 or 3 of their 7 games against the Cardinals. Once they win 2, hopefully this week, the Brewers are going to be more interested in looking out for themselves than playing spoiler. I’m sure the players that play will be going all out, but those players may not be the Brewers best for every situation. The Cubs are not a pushover, but they aren’t likely to win more than a couple against a motivated Cards team either. So, I would expect the Cards to win something like 9 of their last 14. That would make it real tough for the teams behind them to catch up without almost winning out. You may say some key players getting breathers here and there, but it probably makes very little sense to roll out Sunday lineups for the last two weeks of the season. You want your key players to be fresh, while avoiding rust. I believe that the team would continue to play hard. The opportunity to win 100 games is pretty rare, and the players know that.
  18. Would be a helluva first impression from a new GM to come in and replace the winningest manager in team history, who is regarded as one of the top managers in the game, and is a local guy on top of it all. I'd agree that at this point, Counsell has more job security than any manager in the majors. The fact that he is truly a local guy and seemingly wants to be here long-term likely means that when he does leave, it will likely be on his own terms.
  19. The Cubs have played pretty solid baseball of late. Brewers may have took 2 of 3, but all were closely contested. If the Cubs lay down and get stomped by the Cardinals, I'm going to be disappointed. I doubt that happens, though. Cubs always seem to get up for playing the Cardinals.
