  1. That's what I don't get. It makes sending him out for the 8th look even dumber in hindsight.
  2. No doubt. I was actually very surprised he came back out for the 8th. Big picture move. Hopefully Hader can work a clean 9th.
  3. If he leaves Burnes in to throw 130 pitches, and his arm is shot, the rest of us aren't going to be happy. Gotta be smart, and wearing out your ace in a relatively meaningless September game isn't the way to do it.
  4. I don't think it was so much that people were throwing probabilities back in your face, moreso that you have seemed so certain at various points through this season that the Reds were a better team than the Brewers, and that it was only a matter of time before they passed up the Brewers in the standings. People were using probabilities in an effort to point out that you were incorrect, while you seemingly clinged to those ever-dwindling chances of the Reds passing up the Brewers, as you seemingly dug in your heels on the idea that the Brewers were going to blow this.
  5. As the Reds have proven over the last month, they are very capable of losing to anyone, no matter how bad. That team is circling the drain.
  6. I was wondering the same thing. Plus we already have a magic number thread with countdown pics.
  7. Reds score two late to upend the Cardinals 4-2, so the magic number stays at 9 for tonight. But hey, the Cardinals lost, which isn't a terrible consolation prize.
  8. Some Tony Graffanino love
  9. Wasn’t he supposed to be the complete opposite when we traded for him Good defensively and a bat that needed improvement And now he’s got 20 homers and can’t throw a ball to first His bat was always his calling card as a prospect. It's why he was ranked so highly. The defense has always been considered a step behind the offense. I think too many people may have looked his his performance last summer as the player we were truly getting. Granted I didn't ever think he was going to be a 30 HR guy, but this is much closer to the Urias that was advertised.
  10. He's in demand by national outlets because the guy is damn good at his job. He brings a great level of excitement to TV games, and is very polished. The Brewers are lucky to have him.
  11. Chang was supposed to be one of the pieces coming back in the nixed Lucroy deal once upon a time. Pretty good thing for the Brewers that deal fell through in hindsight, as none of the four guys who would have come back have amounted to much, although the supposed centerpiece, Francisco Mejía, is having a decent season with the Rays. In hindsight, the package that ended up coming back from the Rangers for Lucroy and Jeffress wasn't great, either, but at least they were able to flip Brinson to the Marlins in the Yelich deal, Ortiz to the Orioles in the ill-fated Scoop deal, and Ryan Cordell to the White Sox for Anthony Swarzak.
  12. The Reds are circling the drain, losing multiple series' to poor teams over the last month. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Cardinals take 2 of 3 from them this weekend, if not outright sweep them. The Cards are doing what they typically do in September - play solid baseball. They just don't have the horses this year to be anything more than a possible Wild Card participant. Still, they probably have enough to pass up the Reds.
  13. To tell you the truth, that was one issue I was worried about with Mitchell, considering he's a Type 1 diabetic. I'm a type 1 myself, and one of the side effects for many, unfortunately, is taking longer than normal-bodied people to recover from soft-tissue injuries, typically because Type 1s, even when well controlled, don't have the blood circulation of a normal person. I dealt with my share of nagging stuff when I was an athlete in high school and college, and recovering from them was always an extra challenge. Granted that was 20+ years ago, so I would hope that things have improved on the athletic training front to counteract that.
  14. I drove an hour to watch this game primarily to see Mitchell and he was terrible. Looked like he had a hole in his swing and broke the wrong way on a ball to center that dropped in front of him. At some point my wife asked if he was really the reason we drove out Although I should add that I love that Pensacola stadium and it was a good time. Unfortunately, this seems to essentially be turning into a wasted year for Mitchell. He had a really interesting Spring Training. Then the injuries. A promotion but he's never gotten anything going. The hole is his swing comment is a tad worrisome given Keston's might struggles of late. I sure hope he regains his form. Joey Weimer was another young hitter who many predetermined to "have a hole in his swing." As he's proven so far, that can be corrected. Hopefully Mitchell can finish with a flourish and head into 2022 on the right foot. An Arizona Fall League assignment may not be a terrible idea as well, especially considering all the time he's missed with injuries this year.
  15. I don't get it. Before when he was scuffling at the MLB level, he would at least go down to Nashville and rip it up. Now he can't touch a ball in Nashville either. Dude is broken. I don't know what the answer is, but continuing to send him out there to fail in AAA games surely isn't going to do anything for his confidence level. It is far past time to simply chalk up this season as a loss for Hiura, and move on to preparing for 2022.
  16. He only needs 23 more plate appearances this season for the team option to become a mutual option. That should be a pretty sure bet, barring injury. It is likely that the Brewers will exercise their half of the mutual option, but also just as likely Avi will decline his half. If either side of the mutual option is declined, and Garcia elects free agency, the team can still extend a QO.
  17. I live in the Three Lakes/Eagle River area, so very much "up nort". I'd agree that anything north of Hwy. 64 qualifies. Of course, to most in the Milwaukee/Chicago area, that line delineates south toward Hwy. 29.
  18. Grisham is basically a year younger than Lauer and has one extra year of arb control. Those factors do provide value, but I don't know if they make Grisham worth "far more" than Lauer. It comes down to what a GM values more ... a solid mid-rotation lefty starter (Lauer's safe ceiling) or an centerfielder that may top out as an .800 OPS guy. (pretty safe ceiling for Grisham). And can Grisham stay at CF long term, because his production loses some value if forced to put him in a corner.
  19. I've been looking at these countdown photos pretty much every day. It's been awesome. Something cool ... or perhaps not so ... is that you could pretty much do a countdown with just former Brewers catchers.
  20. 11 sure didn't last long Here is postgame show host, and Racine native Vinny Rottino!
