  1. I think that if you are viewing their value right now, this second, most would agree. But at the time of the deal, I'd say their perceived values were much closer. In fact, given his hyped prospect pedigree and the fact that he plays a higher value position, Urias probably had a higher future value at the time of the trade. I remember quite a bit of talk that the Brewers ended up with the highest valued piece in the whole deal. Urias was very recently a Top 20-30 MLB prospect, and Grisham had never sniffed that. Grisham obviously looked better last year. He looked better in 2019 in his debut as a Brewer as well. But all things being equal, if I'm starting a team from scratch, the CFer better be really good to beat out the uber-prospect SS
  2. Except Davies is no longer Padre property, so he can no longer provide value for them. I don't consider Darvish added value for Davies, because everyone knows that the Darvish deal was a salary dump. Lauer is still Brewer property, and is under cheap control for several more seasons, so there is still perceived future value there.
  3. I think declaring that they "misjudged" that trade is vastly premature. I don't have a ton of hope for Lauer, but Davies pitched one decent year for the Padres, and then was basically used as a throw-in arm in the Darvish deal. I think that part right now is pretty much a wash. In the end, it'll come down to Urias vs. Grisham. That will be a fun one to follow ... but I don't think any sort of determination can be made on who got the better end until at least 3-4 seasons from now. Both guys are still in the infancy of their MLB careers.
  4. Given that a high strikeout pitcher in Burnes is on the mound, I think this is a night where we may see Hiura get a start at 2B, and Vogelbach start at 1B. Certainly not ideal defensively, but that is probably the best chance to score some runs with all these guys out. Hopefully Urias is ok and back in there tonight so we don't have to see Robertson take another collar.
  5. I believe McCalvy mentioned in one of his recent notes columns that Fisher has been taking BP and is taking part in other workouts, but has not appeared in any alternate training site exhibitions yet.
  6. Really nice win. Woodruff was masterful after the 1st inning. Pen did its job. Might be one of their best wins of the season so far. This Padres team is legit.
  7. I almost sort of think that after he struck out trying to coax Justin Turner to come to Milwaukee, Attanasio was determined to spend some money and make a splash, and Bradley was the biggest name left on the market.
  8. Wow ... not a great throw, but it worked. Heck of a tag. Actually, I take that back. That was one heck of a throw off a change-up. Narvaez has been a revelation this year.
  9. Daniel Robertson says hi. Forget mendosa line. Hes teetering at Sheets line. Jace is safe while Robertson exists. Both can go ... although at least Robertson has some theoretical upside.
  10. That they may have taken things a little TOO slowly with Devin Williams in Arizona. Williams is pitching like it's the beginning of March.
  11. I am very ready for Jace Peterson to no longer be a relevant name in my lexicon. I fear he's going to be around for awhile, though.
  12. Hopefully Devin Williams figures it out and returns to being a useful weapon. Even if he does, though, they could still use another arm out there. Boxberger and Feyereisen are ok as your 4th or 5th relievers, not as your set-up guys.
  13. Sure would think he's coming back unless they have a crooked inning since he batted. With only Pina, Taylor and big Dan left on the bench, it may have been more out of necessity.
  14. Woodruff at 86 pitches through 5 innings. I sure hope Counsell sends him back out for the 6th. He's looking very strong, so I would think you could push him to around 100 pitches.
  15. Good question. Hope that those heavy hitters frustratingly flail away at Suter's junk for a couple innings I guess?
  16. Agreed with all this, except that McKinney and Vogelbach don't make a ton of sense as your 1B, both being LHH. Maybe this give a guy like Zach Green a shot instead?
  17. He's got a nice stroke and pretty solid mechanics. Of all the former top prospects in their late 20s Stearns has grabbed over the last 12 months, he's been the most impressive. Daniel Robertson, though, has not been impressive. I had high hopes for him, but he just doesn't look like he'll have enough bat to provide any value.
  18. OMG Hiura! That was Little League! I mean, I get that Musgrove is decent, but that pitch wasn't even close.
  19. To me these are good calls. They're so close, but they're missing. Agreed. So many huge zones lately, it's almost disconcerting to see an ump with an accurate strike zone.
