  1. Could be but I'd prefer them call up somebody that can actually get hitters out. Not 100% sure who that would even be. Maybe one of the guys they got from the Braves for Arcia?
  2. 30% strikeout rate, .280ish OBP and he's not hitting the ball hard. It was worth a shot because our other options were so bad but it was always the most likely scenario that he wouldn't be good. He's been a streaky hitter since forever. Nothing about what he's doing now is surprising. The key is how long it's going to take for him to get hot again.
  3. Adam McCalvy @AdamMcCalvy Christian Yelich is still making progress but he won't be activated tomorrow, when he's first eligible to return from the IL.
  4. The team seems to usually announce these things around the same time the lineup drops. Wong has been activated, and Jace Peterson takes his place on the 10-day IL with a thumb issue. That seems rather ... convenient?
  5. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah would be one heck of a fun piece to add to the puzzle. Not super sure how he'd fit in the new Joe Barry defense, but dang that guy is explosive.
  6. I was just coming here to post this. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is on his mind and making it hard to play baseball. If your mind isn’t 100% in it, you’re not going to succeed with how overpowering pitchers are these days. No doubt. I feel like I've been pretty hard on Hiura, and have been down on him. Sometimes we forget that most of these guys are in their early to mid 20s, with all the emotions and drama that everyone deals with at that point in their lives. Being a professional athlete doesn't insulate you from having to deal with a lot of the same types of problems everyday people have to deal with. I always appreciate when a pro ballplayer is willing to open up and share some of their personal life with the fanbase. It makes me cheer for them all that much more.
  7. Perhaps one more solid guy who can bridge the gap from the starters to Williams and Hader would be nice. Feyereisen has been a nice surprise, and Suter has been his typical solid self, but Boxberger and Lindblom are just guys, Yardley has been up and down, and Rasmussen has all the talent in the world, but is still inconsistent. Jury is still out on Perdomo.
  8. I think in the end it all comes down to context. Typically when COVID has been referred to as the "Chinese Virus", or other terms like "China Flu" or the despicable "Kung Flu", it was said in an insulting and purposely derogatory manner. I haven't seen those referring to the variant origins from Great Britain or South Africa use that terminology in the same mocking, insulting manner, though.
  9. Yeah, it stinks that we ended up getting nothing for Davis, who had a pretty good career with Oakland (7.7 bWAR, 6.2fWAR). Sometimes you win with "proven-for-prospect" trades (Peralta for Lind) and sometimes you lose. I had high hopes for Nottingham, and wish him the best of luck, but Narvaez and Pina are clearly the better players right now for the Brewers. Well, it isn't "nothing" yet. Hopefully they can recoup something for Nottingham if there is interest. And Bubba Derby is still toiling at the AAA level, although he really hasn't shown anything to indicate that he has a future as a major leaguer.
  10. Good news for those hoping to catch a Garrett Mitchell sighting in Appleton: Better get there quick, though, cause if he performs anywhere close to how he did in Spring Training, his stay may be brief.
  11. i know that there's a huge age difference, but jonathan lucroy cleared outright waivers after slashing .357 /.357 /.429 with the nationals in five games. he opted for free agency and is still unsigned. Lucroy is what he is at this point in his career - a replacement-level catcher on a 1-year contract. Nottingham, on the other hand, still has some perceived upside, and would be under cheap control for the next five seasons.
  12. Wouldn't surprise me if there is some trade interest in Nottingham. Given the sorry state of catching in MLB, I would imagine some team will be happy to take on a cheap 26-year-old with right-handed pop and solid defense.
  13. I would love that. But I think the chance is better of seeing a pig fly than the Cubs trading Rizzo to Milwaukee. And yes, this fits the optimism thread. Wouldn't you want to see a pig fly?
  14. I'd prefer the Cubs stay just relevant enough (while staying firmly behind the Brewers in the standings) that they feel forced to hang on to all their impending free agents, and not have the opportunity to sell them at the deadline to restock their system.
  15. In my experience, the anti-vax crowd and the anti-mask crowd are pretty much one in the same. They are already ignoring pretty much everything the CDC says.
  16. He's been flat-out awesome. I loved the transaction and thought he would do just fine for us. Well, he has been way more than fine. We have the best catching duo in the league. When Pina is rested, he is pretty darn good as well. His bat so far this year has been every bit as potent as Grandal's was in 2019, and if his defense is a step down, it certainly isn't substantial. His framing and game calling, along with his general fine defense, has been a big part of the pitching staff's success so far.
  17. Cain, JBJ or Garcia aren't going anywhere. Once Yelich and Cain come back, McKinney will go back to his pinch hitting and occasional spot start role, and Taylor will go back to the alternate site. This was all part of the plan. They wanted better depth on the 2021 team, and they have it. They aren't going to sacrifice that depth now just because McKinney and Taylor have looked pretty good in their small samples.
  18. This really isn't surprising, though. Basically the whole point of the CDC is to err on the side of caution. I think at this point they go out of their way to be very conservative (the word, not the political leaning) in their recommendations, knowing a large portion of the population is already going to either toe the line, gradually take larger steps over the line, or ignore the line completely.
  19. Reds bullpen, other than one guy, has been a dumpster fire. Starters have been hit and miss. When that offense comes back down to earth (which it appears it already has), they are going to be mediocre team.
  20. He's really making Robertson look bad which has to be a mental health issue for Robertson. Jace Peterson is psychologically assaulting Daniel Robertson! He's so mean! Bingo LOL!
  21. I really want to continue hating Jace Peterson. Help me find reasons to not pull for him.
