  1. Plus, how smart would it be for the Packers to trade their backup QB with no other QBs on the roster? I am convinced that part of the appeal of drafting Love was to have a young, talented backup QB at their disposal should their veteran late-30s QB get dinged.
  2. Binelas was very good at 3B in 2019, when he first hit the prospect map. But Lucas Dunn has solidified himself as a top-flight defensive 3B after playing somewhat out of position in CF in the past due to Binelas's presence. It could very well be a case of playing Dunn at 3B and Binelas at 1B gives them the best defensive alignment, especially if 3B is Dunn's best defensive position
  3. I agree with all of this. I certainly don't want to throw all caution to the wind, but now that the vaccine is available for everyone 16 and older, there will come a point likely sooner rather than later where people are going to simply say "OK, you've had plenty of opportunity to get a shot, I'm not going to go out of my way to protect you anymore if you are unwilling to protect yourself." The group I do worry about, though, are the 12-15 year olds who are not yet eligible to receive a vaccine, but are seemingly more susceptible to being infected by the variants.
  4. Binelas was hyped early on, and now has his average up to .259 with 10 HRs after starting the season ice cold. I would hope he'd be a consideration for the Brewers if he's there at #15. He's a LHH power bat and slick-fielding 3B that should be able to make a quick ascent to the majors.
  5. That’s definitely what conventional wisdom would suggest, but Lamet claimed the following yesterday (link)... Dinelson Lamet says there's no limit. That's why they took their time. He plans to go out there and compete like he normally would. Curious to find out if he’s right. Logic would dictate that Lamet will be on a pitch count of roughly 60-70 pitches. But with the way this Brewers lineup likes to flail around at times, they could get him through 6.
  6. Perhaps ... unless they have him pegged for a multi-inning role today as backup for Houser, or they have him slated to start one of the games in Chicago this weekend.
  7. A little odd that the COVID intake process for Strange-Gordon took nearly two weeks. Makes me wonder if he may have tested positive, and had to wait things out.
  8. Counsell said at the beginning of the season after announcing that Peralta had won a spot in the rotation that Lindbloom was going to start a lot of games, and that he would likely be starting games by the end of April. Well, it's now April 21. Following tomorrow's off day, the Brewers don't have another scheduled off day until May 10. Him not pitching last night tells me that we can expect them to go to a 6-man rotation starting Friday.
  9. Soon, people will start calling for one of them to be traded. Got to stock the farm. We are not used to having nice pitchers at the top. Brewers fans don't know how to act when we do. LOL ... this take is 100% spot on, Hopper.
  10. I get it, and what you suggest is likely what they'll end up doing. But this situation is a little different in that Shaw was coming off a very good 2018 season before he completely lost it in 2019. Hiura, on the other hand, came up and made a positive impact in 2019, but then followed it up with a pretty terrible abbreviated 2020 season, and has looked even worse than that in 2021. I'm more than willing to give players who were bad in 2020 a mulligan due to the weird circumstances surrounding the whole season, but it gets a little harder to ignore as we get further into the 2021 season and a larger sample comes into play. One thing the Brewers did do with Shaw in the first half of 2019, though, is essentially make him a part-time player. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Brewers go that route with Hiura once Wong is back, as they now know that both Vogelbach and McKinney can take reps at 1B, along with Shaw. They also have Zach Green in Appleton waiting around for his opportunity, too.
  11. Sending him to AAA is far from giving up on him, though. He needs to figure some stuff out in a situation that isn't expressly impacting the MLB team. I can live with a higher than average K rate, but last night, Hiura looked like he was swinging with his eyes closed. He's 24 years old, and he's a big part of this team's future. I'm all for giving him the opportunity to right the ship, but he was utterly terrible for 60 games last season, and he looks exactly the same this year. Once the AAA team gets going, he needs to be there, and play every day in a less pressure-packed environment. Once he figures out how to strike the ball again, and not chase every neck-high fastball a pitcher throws him, I'd gladly welcome him back.
  12. Christian Yelich is out, and hadn't found his power even when he was in the lineup. Lorenzo Cain is out. Kolten Wong is out. Devin Williams hasn't found his groove yet. Keston Hiura may as well be out, because he's been atrociously bad. All of that, and this this team is still on pace for 90+ wins, while mixing and matching guys like Vogelbach and McKinney. This team is so much more fun to watch than last summer's, when Sogard, Holt and Smoak were taking collars every night. When this team gets those guys back and the offense gets humming, watch out!
  13. The Nashville Sounds kick off their 2021 season in less than two weeks, on Tuesday, May 4, at Toledo. At this point, I would be very surprised if Keston Hiura isn't in their opening day lineup, and starting at 1B.
  14. A couple more runs would make me feel better. This Padres team can score runs in a hurry. Would be nice if Rasmussen or Lindblom can pick up the last couple innings, and leave the bulk of the pen ready to roll for tomorrow.
  15. Umpire is part of the field when it comes to a batted or thrown live ball, but if an ump impedes a defensive player, the play is automatically dead.
  16. Corbin Burnes starts have become appointment viewing. The guy's stuff is so filthy. I love Woodruff's bulldog mentality out there, but Burnes is probably the more talented pitcher. When was the last time the Brewers have had two horses like this at the top of the rotation?
  17. He's a fun player. Makes be wonder how he's managed to wear out his welcome at several stops before landing in Milwaukee. He's a good fielder in the corner OF and at 1B, and has a very nice lefty power stroke. Looking like one heck of a nice find so far.
  18. How about a 20k start? Which happens first? I think it would be tough to rack up 20 Ks and not need to throw about 120 pitches to get there. I don't see that happening, at least as long as Counsell is the manager.
  19. Hard to believe that it wasn't so long ago that plenty of fans were ready to cut bait on Burnes after his disastrous 2019. He was being tossed into plenty of prospective trade proposals at the deadline. Obviously the Brewers front office made the right choice by sticking with him. Example number 532,864 of why this is a crazy game.
  20. I love it! In 2019, if Shaw would have gone cold like he has been for the last week, he would have pressed and changed his approach. This time he's still managed to put together some nice ABs, and has scalded some balls that just happened to he hit right at fielders. He's always going to be a streaky hitter, but so far, he's proven that he can be an overall asset. Hiura on the other hand ...
