  1. Come on, man, how long have you been a Brewer fan? Making moves like that is 100% in their playbook.
  2. We don't know what the buyout on Pederson's 2022 mutual option is, though. Also, Schwarber was estimated to get between $7-8 million in arbitration from the Cubs had they not non-tendered him. So when you dig into it, probably not as good of deal as it appears on the surface.
  3. Is there any doubt that quote came from Brian Cashman or some other member of the Yankees front office? I've never seen a team that has more of a sense of entitlement when it comes to trading for other teams' assets. I'm sure Cashman is miffed because Stearns won't accept Estavan Florial and a couple 17-year-old lottery tickets for Hader.
  4. Pittsburgh too. Ben's 3 appearances gloss over that he hasn't been there since 2010. I've been on this train for a while now, but in consideration of why Tomlin still has a job. I know the Rooneys hate coaching turnover more than literally anyone in the league, but other than winning a SB with Cowher's infrastructure, Tomlin has seemingly underperformed every year since.... That's because Tomlin is literally running the same exact offense and defense he ran in 2007. If you thought Mike McCarthy's philosophy and gameplanning was getting stale, multiply that by 100, and that's how Steelers fans feel.
  5. Also a component that the Brewers likely wouldn't (and given his splits, shouldn't) have offered, if they were even in the running for him. At most, he would have been looking at a part-time RF platoon with Garcia, with perhaps getting some 1B innings mixed in.
  6. I ASSUME it's nonsense, but Shefter usually doesn't just make things up. And why even bring up names? Because it's a forum and I'm speculating. IF Gute's really the one guy who's swimming against the tide and Murphy, the coaching staff, and the player all want one thing and he wants another...which at this point would only be to make this team "his team," in that old cliche, then that's not really a functional organization. And I understand the Packers will be around after Rodgers. I don't really understand the point you're making. They'll also be around after Gute. And SB wins are exceedingly hard to come by. 2 Since Lombardi. So if Gute is more interested in building for the next 20 years instead of right now(which I don't believe is true, but if it was) and at odds with all the other key figures, it's hardly unreasonable to move on. It's not like this is unprecedented. The Chiefs very recently fired a GM(John Dorsey) who drafted the core of their dynasty including Mahomes(whom he traded up for despite having a Pro Bowl-caliber QB) and a long list of other very talented players, Kelce in the 3rd, Hill in the 5th, Peters...and the list goes on. They didn't fire him because of his team-building ability, they did so because he was butting heads with their coach and others in the front office. So when Adam Schefter reports he's the one who's got a different opinion, not sure why it's so crazy to speculate what would happen if that situation played out. I was an enormous Brett Favre fan, but lost a ton of respect for him after the crap he pulled in the summer of 2008. It took a long time for the team to recover from that episode. Now it's almost as if these national talking heads like Schefter are trying to create the same situation, and it's stupid. If there is any truth to this, I sure as heck hope the team stands behind its front office, and not behind a player.
  7. I just had a flashback to those late-'90s/early-'00s Packers teams as well. It's almost comical how Favre and Rodgers' career archs have mimicked each other. Favre had a couple extra seasons early on as the starter before making the Super Bowl, but otherwise it is eerily similar, right down to the veteran QB's confusion whether they'll be back next year. The only thing Rodgers doesn't have is the multiple will-he or won't-he threatened retirements.
  8. Right. They gave up on Schwarber, but are signing a player who is almost literally his exact clone, only a couple years older. Pederson is perhaps a little better as a defender in the OF, but that's it. Hopefully the Brewers can find a way to add a solid lefty or two to the rotation.
  9. He's their Schwarber replacement. Probably is going to put up similar numbers. Pretty solid signing for them, depending on the financials.
  10. That would be cool. He was a bright spot last year.
  11. I like Gute, but IF there is any truth to this...do you consider making a change? Eliot Wolf maybe. If you have a GM who is the only guy in the building advocating you move on from your MVP QB when your team is riiiight on the cusp, that'd seem like it was ego-driven. He wants to win with "his guy." But I'm sure this story is nonsense and I doubt Gute has any objections to him coming back. What would suck is if he's kinda stuck on the idea of moving on from Rodgers in 2 years(or after next year) so they don't restructure and create room to keep players or add right now. That might what Rodgers means when he says he's not sure everyone else wants him back as badly. This story is complete nonsense. And Gute is very secure. Why even bring up possible replacements? Can you imagine the terrible precedent it would set to fire a GM because he was simply doing his job and planning for a team's future? Remember, the Packers are a team. They were around before Aaron Rodgers, and they'll be around after Aaron Rodgers. He's by no means bigger than the team.
  12. Rumor is Dodgers will pivot to Bryant if they cant re-sign JT. Come on Stearns, swoop him up first! I have a feeling we are going to get the news soon here that JT is re-signing with LA, and the meltdown here will be intense! If we don't get JT, what are the options out there to fill the 3B hole? Gyorko again? Did LaStella sign with SF this week? Who else is out there for us to sign? If there is a meltdown, it's going to be a very isolated one. Justin Turner is 36 years old. There is a ton of risk in signing him to a big deal. If the Brewers don't, it isn't going to bother me.
  13. They've been talking about this for more than a year now. I'll believe it when I see it.
  14. I get that argument, but he was very well thought-of as the assistant ST coordinator with the Colts, and was actually the runner-up to Menninga for the Packers job a couple years ago. Colts had very good special teams units while he was there.
  15. I was perhaps the biggest Wade Miley detractor. I absolutely hated that move. I hated the idea of him taking up a rotation spot. I thought he was done ... and that he wasn't any good to begin with. And I couldn't have been more wrong. Which is why I'm commenting on player moves on a internet message board, and not working for an MLB front office LOL. I loved the Yelich trade at the time, but the deal certainly wasn't without risk, which I think was reflected in the comments of those posters who didn't approve.
  16. Frazier is 6 years younger, substantially more athletic, and likely a substantially better fielder than Cabrera at every position other than maybe 1B. Frazier also brings a sizable amount of OF experience to the table.
  17. Looking back through some of his old scouting reports, several indicate that he wouldn't have any problem playing 3B. That was obviously never a huge need in Pittsburgh with full-timers Josh Harrison first entrenched there, then Colin Moran, during Frazier's time. I personally would much rather see Frazier as the team's regular 3B than Urias, if that is the route they are currently looking at.
  18. AL Central, he's only been with the Tigers. D'oh! I'm dumb, and apparently still living in 1993.
  19. Not a hard thrower whatsoever (tops out at about 89), but he's had decent enough numbers throughout his career. Anyone that can put up an ERA in the mid 3s pitching in the AL East has some talent. He also made 13 starts for the Tigers in 2018, and held his own, so that is encouraging. He's an intriguing pickup as a flyer.
  20. First of all - I think I'll just rejoice if we get Frazier out of the NL Central, because that guy seems to kill us each and every year - at least a couple of times during the season. Not sure though if he'd make much sense for us though to make a trade. His offensive numbers really only play at 2B and if we don't have the DH anymore to get Hiura AB's, then I'm just not sure where we'd play Frazier? I think we'd need someone with a bit more power to play 3B for us. I was always one who thought that you needed to get 30 HR power from the 3B position, but I don't necessarily believe that is the case any longer. The Brewers stand to get significant power numbers from Yelich and Hiura, and also Garcia and Narvaez should they hopefully rebound. Whoever ends up playing 1B, should it be Vogelbach or a signing, will likely be a power threat as well. The only nominal starters who are non regular power threats are Cain and Arcia/Urias. I think this lineup could very easily incorporate another player who focuses more on situational hitting and getting on base. If Frazier could play a passable 3B, I don't think I'd have much issue with him seeing time there.
  21. Of course all that is more than likely correct. However, I can totally understand frustration starting to set in among much of the fanbase after the team decided to jettison so much of its 2020 roster, and has up to this point done little to fill those holes. We're three weeks from the (hopeful) beginning of Spring Training, and there are still some sizable holes on this roster. I understand that the Brewers are certainly not the only team in this situation, as the free agent and trade market has seemingly been especially slow-going this year, and the hot stove rumor mill involving the Brewers has been pretty scant as well. I think this is just a case of a bunch of baseball fans getting antsy in late January. All it would take is a somewhat significant personnel move or two for this type of attitude to disappear.
  22. Adam Frazier on the block, according to Heyman. I'm always been a Frazier fan. He's a decent defender at multiple positions. Doesn't have huge power, but his left-handed stick would likely play up at AmFam Field. Has played extensively at 2B and in the OF, with very limited time at 3B and SS. I can't imagine the trade cost would be very high. He seems like the type of player Stearns would covet. Plus he's always destroyed Brewer pitching for some reason, so I'd rather he be playing on the good guys' side.
  23. The Dodgers could theoretically be in the Arenado or Bryant sweepstakes though, too. I predict that as soon as there is news on one of these guys, there will be news on the other two soon after. And yes, it probably ends up with the Brewers signing Maikel Franco.
  24. The problem is 10 million per season in today's MLB isn't that much. Role players like Avisail Garcia, James McCann, and back of the rotation starters like Drew Smyly are now getting ten million per year. Thank you! When we shell out $18-$20 mil a season for player like Semien or Turner, then we'll talk about Mark not being cheap... We can be interested in these big FAs all we want, until we hand out that kind of money to a FA then I'll stop. First it's "MA’s idea of value is to get a difference maker at a 7-figure salary", and now it's "When we shell out $18-$20 mil a season". Methinks you are frustrated, and now moving the goalposts to suit a narrative that has been proven incorrect. I get the frustration. I'd like to see them make some quality moves before Spring Training kicks off as well. But you are simply making this situation something that it isn't.
  25. If I'm Stearns, I don't even engage with the Yankees unless they start throwing around names like Jasson Dominguez, Clarke Schmidt, or Clint Frazier.
