  1. I think looking at the typical reliever trade market, you can't use that Chapman/Torres deal as any sort of example. That one is clearly an outlier of a team completely desperate for a World Series crown overpaying another very well-off team through the nose for a dominant reliever that did, in fact, help they win that championship. That said, that one deal likely lessened the Cubs' championship window, and they are now to the point where they are looking at dismantling after not getting back. As a Brewer fan, if they trade Hader, I want the most value as possible back. But if we go into it thinking that the Brewers "deserve" a similar return to what the Yankees got for Chapman, we're gonna be disappointed. Teams just aren't that stupid anymore. As far as I'm concerned, Theo lucked himself into that championship.
  2. Sorry, but I don't believe anyone here who claims that they think this move is good. In the big picture, maybe so, since we don't know what moves are around the corner, but I don't believe that anyone, not even our falsely manufactured sunshine spreaders are happy with this move. Sorry, my fandom doesn't allow me to see this kind of move, and be giddy with delight. When we are obviously pinching pennies, does forking out 4.5 million to Eric Sogard make people happy with our off-season? If so, you are a much better fan than myself. I'm not angry, upset, or mad, but this does nothing to move our needle, just a guy to add to our roster. Arcia has to be on the block, it's the only thing that can explain this. That's where I am. If it enables the Brewers to deal away Arcia to shore up a position of need, I like it. As for Sogard's on-field value ... I'm sure he's a great guy to have in the clubhouse.
  3. Take away Robbie Ray's 2017, and he's been pretty meh.
  4. It ultimately doesn't matter what we think. No one here made the decision. It's obvious that the Brewers, however, see value in him. We'll see if they are seeing something that we aren't.
  5. I'm not sold on Ray, not in the least. Is it feasible that Houser could be at least as good as Ray? No that is not feasible. Can I borrow the Delorean when you're done?
  6. Jesse Rogers @ESPNChiCubs · 54m Eric Sogard to the Brewers, as reported by @Ken_Rosenthal. Cubs looked at him last season and now, again, wanted him this off-season, but goes to Mil. Cubs just can't add $$ until they subtract LOL! The Cubs (!!!) can't afford Eric Sogard! If I'm the Brewers, I'm still on the phone with Castellanos to ask if he'll be happy at 1B.
  7. What a weird wonderful team we are going to have this year.
  8. It isn't a huge deal, but for those saying Attanasio and Stearns are afraid to spend money, they just gave a guaranteed $4.5 million to Eric Sogard. ERIC SOGARD! The money is there. They are just being patient. Lots of moving parts, and we haven't seen the last of it. Not by a long shot.
  9. We can't keep Thames as a LH 1B option as he's too expensive so we blow a wad on Sogard. Seriously? My god what an overpay... Did I miss the news that Eric Thames signed somewhere else?
  10. This has to mean Arica is being shipped out in a deal. Or Keston (ducks)
  11. Wrong on both counts. 3and2Fastball is missing a "potentially". Although it could potentially be wrong as well. Stating either as fact is off-base.
  12. That's a good point. Signing Cain in 2018, then following up with the signings of Grandal and Moose last year has given a lot of people in this fanbase what almost seems like a sense of entitlement. The Brewers are what they are, though. They are extremely value-based when it comes to player acquisition. Everything is cost vs. reward. That obviously doesn't mean that they will never acquire "big name" guys, or hand out large deals. But they do those type of things very conservatively, because if that acquisition is a failure, the Brewers cannot simply eat it and easily move on. I get the feeling that even if David Stearns had a $200 million payroll, he'd be operating in a very similar fashion building the team as he is now. Perhaps you'd see a few more higher-value deals, but value is value, whether you are shopping at Tiffany's or Walmart.
  13. Hence the "dumpster diving", right?
  14. I simply don't understand why Corey Ray is getting thrown into all these trade proposals. The Brewers aren't gonna trade off a guy like this when his value is at its absolute lowest. I see Ray as a prime bounce-back guy, and he very well could be a guy who is on the move come the end of July. No way is he dealt now, though, unless another team is valuing him for his upside. Ray certainly hasn't fulfilled his vast potential, but he's got a ways to go before he's "trade throw-in" fodder.
  15. If it were truly based on who has played the best this year, Aaron Jones should have been a consideration (although he's had a few stinkers, too), and Elgton Jenkins as well. Jenkins has been a revelation in the running game. Nice to see the Packers finally hit on a high-round O-lineman. This is sort of a reflection on a team that appears to be better than the sum of its parts.
  16. There are plenty of MLB teams who have proven over the years that the solution to all their problems in fielding a competitive ballclub is not simply to "throw money at it".
  17. What do you think the DBacks would be looking for in return for Lamb?
  18. That's fair. And I agree ... dealing off stars to fill "needs" at other positions can be a dangerous precedent to set. I think it's important to note that I would not do a one-for-one deal in this case. McNeil would have to be coming back with either Dom Smith or J.D. Davis, who could fill that 1B hole, and also a pitching prospect. There was some scuttle yesterday about a Hader for Lux deal. Now that would be interesting. I do kinda get the feeling that Hader is going to be traded this offseason, though. I just don't know if the Mets would give up Thor for him.
  19. Well, I'm not. And it appears that you were replying to me.
  20. Give me a break. That is hyperbole if I ever saw it. No one is calling him Yelich. He's a solid, relatively young cost-controlled player at a huge position of need for the Brewers.
  21. IMO ang deal with the Mets has to start with Thor. They have the arms that we need. I agree, if the Brewers trade Hader, the headliner needs to be a pitcher with TOR potential, not a couple of league average position players just because they can play 3B/1B. Very short sighted IMO. Wow! To think that someone could call what McNeil has done in his career "league average", while calling Thor a pitcher with TOR potential, and then to double down to call people saying that short-sighted? Something isn't adding up.
  22. Mike Lamb is 44. He might be a tad past his prime. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/lambmi01.shtml If you're thinking of Jake Lamb, he isn't a free agent.
  23. I actually like quite a few guys on that Cubs team. I don't like that fact.
  24. Finder’s fee is in the same desk drawer as Scooter Gennett’s extension paperwork.
