  1. I agree. I would have walked him but you certainly don't spin a hanger. Grandal knows better than anyone that he can't get a curveball down. He's right there catching him. I just don't understand that pitch selection given the situation. Brewers need anyone big time arm in the pen. if they can't find one this season will be over sometime in August. Agreed. You have to execute your pitches. Also agreed on the need for at least one pen arm. It seems like every loss the last three weeks has been one that the pen gave up. know that likely isn't the case, but it sure seems that way.
  2. Pina has been good with the bat lately. My goodness, please read your posts before you hit send. Lolololol. Yeah he managed to get his average up to .180! Batting .278 this month. Granted it's 18 ABs, but he is a backup to an ironman-type All-Star catcher.
  3. Hader did pitch Saturday and Sunday. 12 pitches in each game. I know they are careful with him, but that doesn't seem like a lot.
  4. Well, that sucks. Cool comeback. Bad bullpen. This team is a couple good pen arms from being a true contender. Perhaps I'm too bullish on the rotation.
  5. I dunno ... they've had a lot of pretty deflating losses. This turned into a house money game after those improbable Saladino heroics.
  6. I'm surprised they haven't announced the Woodruff IL move yet? I'd think with Braun unavailable they'd want another bat (Dubon?) on the bench. Edit: Nevermind ... Burch Smith up. I guess he provides innings coverage.
  7. The answer to that is never. It has never happened before. Pretty dang cool!
  8. This is likely the type of improvements they are looking at, as they don't have much prospect capital to trade from, and are right up against the luxury tax threshold.
  9. What's your point? Profits can be reinvested in more than just payroll. I think it's a good thing that they spent money on Carolina, concessions and Maryvale, as it helps them add to the value of the team as a whole, including how it looks to potential outside free agents. You don't think guys like Grandal and Moose are impressed with the improvements they made to the Maryvale facility? How is that a bad thing? Attanasio is putting his money where his mouth is. In my opinion, you have created this myth of him being some sort of snake oil salesman, and it seems the more you say it, the more you believe it. I know you desperately want other posters to jump on board with your line of thinking on this, but there's just too many holes in the story for it to be taken seriously. Not a single poster has specifically refuted any of the points that I’ve made or MrTPlush has made. Just a bunch of generalities in rebuttal of my specific points. What specific points? You are guessing on the numbers! There is literally nothing to refute, because you have created a total hypothetical argument that you continue to present as fact. Also, I'm not sure Plush wants to be drug into this. He kinda-sorta agreed with you, but you are turning this into an "us vs. the world" thing.
  10. Team reports this week. No drama leading into camp is a good thing.

  12. Wahl is the reliever they picked up from the Mets in the Broxton deal.
  13. Except they don't go over their limit and I think that is where his problem lies. I think most of the savings go into capital projects like food service upgrades, spring training complex, and owning the Mudcats in the present time of sucking. I don't think they save money to use when competing...which is what he wants them to do. The whole idea of them having a spending limit is arbitrary, though, because no one other than the team's ownership and front office really knows what that number is. My guess is that it is a loose limit, and the front office is handed spending parameters, and must get ownership approval for anything that doesn't fall into those parameters.
  14. Rebuilding an ACL has become such a common surgery now, and you are seeing athletes recover from it quicker and quicker. Because it wasn't an arm injury, I'm not worried about Wahl being able to make all his pitches. Where I'd be worried is if he has enough mobility to field his position and protect himself. He's also a high-velocity guy, which puts a lot of torque on his legs. The report says he's throwing off the mound, but it doesn't indicate whether that throwing is at maximum effort.
  15. I think you are missing the point a bit where people disagree with you. Personally, I think its in the numbers you are using. In this post you plainly say your numbers are educated guesses, but in previous posts on this subject, you've been much more firm on your feelings on those numbers. I personally feel that you are vastly overestimating profits, but that is a total guess on my part. But as for the general idea of increasing payroll in contention years, and decreasing it in rebuilding years in an effort to make up the difference ... yeah, that makes sense. It's what they've been doing the last decade.
  16. With the off days over the next week, they don’t need another starter until Aug. 3rd if they want to go that route. So yes, they can wait it out a bit if they want to. They can, and they more than likely will. Trying to make a deal the day after your top starter goes on the injured list is all sorts of bad optics. Losing Woodruff sucks ... but he wasn't the only member of the rotation who has been pitching well.
  17. You should check out how much WAR Galvis had through his age 24 season (-.2) compared to Arcia at 2.5. And $5.5M is not cheap for the type of player Galvis is. Nor should Stearns ever make moves on the assumption of what he may or may not be able to get in a trade for Yelich and/or Hader. Again, not how things work. Imo, it’s cheap for a potential 3 war SS. But AGAIN, I’m open to other possibilities other than Galvis, although he most certainly would be an upgrade over Arcia, at least to me, the next 2 years. If they are seriously looking to replace Arcia, I think I'd rather just roll with Dubon's potential than trade anything of value for someone like Galvis.
  18. Yes, but he was throwing to low A guys in Grand Chute. So what? It's a rehab assignment. It wouldn't surprise me if he made a few more appearances in Appleton, then perhaps went to San Antonio before coming back up to the Brewers' pen. It appears with the probably shuffle due to Woodruff's injury that we may need Nelson to come up and pitch meaningful innings at some point yet this season. I just hope he made it through his inning and his elbow feels good this morning.
