  1. I highly doubt anyone thinks this. No one has said this. Having hope that the team can overcome their deficiencies is different than not realizing they have any.
  2. That's hyperbole. I acknowledge that this team isn't playing well right now. Maintaining an optimistic outlook is different than "feeling sunshine and rainbows", as you so eloquently put it. This is the exact type of defensive attitude I was talking about.
  3. Those people aren't going away. The mods actually had to put together a post last year at this time admonishing these type of posters. In a 96-win season!!! It worked for awhile, but they are back in full force this season, on nearly every thread. I totally get that not everyone is a fan in the same way, and that it is possible to be a pessimist and also be a fan, but I agree, the beating-a-dead-horse style of negativity a few posters have displayed in the past few weeks has worn my patience thin at times as well. I've found it best to use the "foe" function, which allows one to easily ignore these posters. Because if you engage them, and call them out on the crap, they never, ever back down, and it just turns into an ugly, unwinable argument. Best to avoid it (although that is getting tougher lately, as a few of these posters are taking over large portions of the board.)
  4. He was optioned to San Antonio July 4.
  5. I applaud this level of optimism No reason not to be optimistic as long as they have a realistic shot at the playoffs. I'm realist enough to know that this team is playing like crap right now. But they also have a ton of talent, and that gives me hope that they can go on a run. Is this team living up to expectations? No. Are they as good as last year's team? Probably not (although they have time to change that). Do they still have time to make the rest of this season a lot of fun? Hell yeah!
  6. I like Ray, but they'd have to back the prospect truck up to make this deal. Like totally decimate their top prospects list, plus likely give up ML assets as well. I think Ray would likely command a similar package to what they dealt for Greinke.
  7. I suppose if the goal is to finish around 80-85 wins, they could probably do that with the current squad. I have a hard time seeing that as a goal of any team, though. I personally ebb and flow on what I think they should do, but considering they are still squarely in the playoff hunt, I think they should be buyers. This is a team that still has the offensive firepower to go on a run, and the starting pitching has been very good the last couple weeks. Grab a couple solid bullpen arms, and get a few more guys in the lineup hitting more consistently, and I think they could look like a completely different team pretty quick.
  8. That's a good point. I wonder if the Cubs offer him to the Giants in a deal for Will Smith? That would seem like a lot to give up, though.
  9. Odd that the Cubs would make this move considering Contreras is only supposed to be out the minimum IL time, and Caratini is a capable backup. Perhaps they want to free Caratini up to play other spots? Still, Montgomery isn't a world beater, but is a nice arm to have around. Considering the Cubs are seemingly on the hunt for a lefty, it's a little odd that they traded away one who was already at the ML level. Now if they have an injury in the rotation, the depth is pretty minimal.
  10. I want Chacin, Moose and Grandal moves for sure. And it’d be great if we could find someone on Thames and/or possibly Davies. Please STOP...they are NOT going to sell..ZERO chance of that happening, UNLESS they are say 7-8 games back by the deadline(which isn't going to happen). You don't tell the fans you're selling after what you did in the offseason to compete this year. This is a fan message board ... it's all opinion. And yeah, if this team keeps losing winnable games nearly every night, it is quite likely in their best interest to sell some of the short-termers and reload for next year. No one (well, no one with any sense anyway) is talking about dealing Yelich, Hader, Woodruff or Huira.
  11. I hope they don’t trade him either, he’s exactly what this offense needs, high on base, power hitting, low K potential star in the making. Disagree with leaving him in AAA. I option Gamel, Roster Grisham, and find ABs for him now. He can platoon with Braun, and give Cain some rest. This guy can help this offense now. Gamel has done nothing to not deserve being on the roster. He's been a pretty great 4th OF, which is exactly why they got him. He isn't going anywhere.
  12. Get a win today with their stopper on the mound, then light up Kuechel tomorrow, and things are looking up again. Time to go on a run guys! Let's go!
  13. So instead of sending Burnes to AAA where he can get regular work, they are making up a phantom IL stint? Not to sound too conspiratorial, but the only thing hurt on Burnes is his ego.
  14. The idea of the Brewers resigning him doesn't add to his value or not make him a rental. Sure, they could sign him, but every other team would have the same opportunity. If they deal for him, it has to be with the idea that it is for the rest of this season and that's it.
  15. Plus he was the team's only pitcher who actually threw anything other than maintenance pitches over the All Star Break. Makes sense to give him the additional time.
  16. According to that trade value chart, if the Giants were interested in Dubon, it would take having to add another prospect in the caliber of Henry, Feliciano or Erceg to get it done evenly.
  17. This makes perfect sense. Smith would be a great fit at the back of the pen. I imagine it's going to take another solid prospect in addition to Dubon, though. It’d be nice to get a true closer and put hader back into that swing role he had. Would they take Bickford back? I would guess that is a big no.
  18. How often are your trade values updated? For instance, Chacin was pretty bad in the first half for the most part, but has now strung together several good outings in a row. I would think that given his affordable salary, track record of being a solid major league starter, the fact that he served as the de facto ace of a 96-win team last year, and that he is again pitching well, that he would have more trade value than the negative number that you are assigning to him.

  20. With Hiura here and with Aguilar hitting the ball much better lately, I feel much more confident in this team barreling up against lefty pitchers. And I agree, Joseph ... this is a huge week to determine the direction of the team moving forward. I wouldn't be surprised to see some pen moves as well this week. If they were to acquire a couple pen arms, there is enough time to turn them around and deal them should things not go as planned and they decide to do a soft sell.
  21. Tyler Saladino had an OPS of .943 at the time of his call-up. You have made the mistake of getting infatuated with AAA stats several times this season. I remember post after post from you calling for the Brewers to insert Aaron Wilkerson in the rotation due to his outstanding work at AAA. Yeah, sometimes AAA stats do mean something ... but typically its when trying to decide whether to call up a prospect. In the case of Saladino, Wilkerson, Freitas, or any of the other AAAA-types you've attached yourself to this year, those stats are not very important. Haven’t ever attached myself to Saladino. .943 because of power is not the same as .950 because of actual hitting ability. I’ll take my chances the last 2 1/2 months on his .450 on base hitting ability. I never said you attached yourself to Saladino. He is simply an example of the danger of using empty AAA stats as gospel. Which you continue to do.

  23. If you stand a shot at making the playoffs, you take it. Making the playoffs in MLB is hard. And if you qualify, all bets are off. This team proved earlier this year that they can stick with anyone. They are playing like crap right now no doubt. But it they can identify another consistent starter to go with Woodruff and Davies (perhaps Chacin is that guy), and get the back end of the pen sorted out, this is a team that nobody's underdog.
  24. I don't know about that. The Illiad may have been a little overrated, but The Odyssey got pretty solid reviews on the ancient Greek version of Rotten Tomatoes
