  1. Considering the leverage situations he's being used in, it's probably more down than up, but for the most part, yeah.
  2. That's not true of Barnes at all. Williams only has 4.1 innings. Barnes has gotten rocked with a couple horrid outings that have skewed his numbers, but has looked good at times, too. Story of his career.
  3. Only one way to know for sure and sending them to the minors or the bullpen ain't it. But how do you determine it then? Say you stick with Freddy in the rotation, and he continues to get rocked in three out of every four starts, but then throws a gem in the 4th one. Is that enough? All these guys are young, and everyone expected bumps in the road. I don't think anyone expected the whole highway to be full of potholes, though.
  4. Oh I definitely put more of the blame on the players themselves. I guess its just rare that you see quite frankly a whole staff just get so bad seemingly all of a sudden. Like I said, I'm grasping at straws to figure out why. Perhaps there is no specific answer.
  5. Really? Is that all you got? I thought it was a pretty solid point. Coaches coach, and it's up to the players to execute on that coaching. Blaming a pitching coach in periods like this is almost always a scapegoat, but a move like that has been effective in the past with other teams. It seems like whatever turnover and idea Counsell is trying, nothing is working. It is totally up to the players to execute, but at some point, when you have enough failure, you have to start questioning the plan. I don't know what the answer is, and I'm glad I don't have to make it. It does suck to witness it, though.
  6. I was optimistic. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, though. Get Freddy on the bus to San Antonio ASAP. He just isn't ready.
  7. I was one of the strongest supporters of the "pitching coach doesn't matter" movement. Needless to say, I'm starting to see the light now. I mean, some regression on a pitching staff can be expected, but 12 of 13 guys? Really? Losing Knebel obviously sucks, but he was just a part of a pretty dang great pen last year. Granted a few others aren't back, and it's early, but the promise is fleeting.
  8. Yeah, I have to think it's been pretty much the worst-case scenario they thought of when finalizing the rotation in March. Davies, the afterthought who eeked out the 5th spot, has pitched like an ace. Literally everyone else has, other than a few glimpses of hope, been pretty bad. I agree that Woodruff has looked better of late. Unless Peralta gets his location under control, I doubt we'll see him in the pen. This team can't afford to have another potential powder keg out there. I'm really hoping he shows improvement today.
  9. Pretty sure I remember that the Astros attempted to move Domingo to 1B in the minors, and while details are scant, it apparently went horribly.
  10. For sure. You can obviously disguise shoddy or below average defense through the use of shifts and analytics, but that's a lot tougher to do in the OF compared to the IF. Positioning is obviously going to help a slower defender get to the ball in the OF, but there's nothing that can help them actually catch it. Domingo has the type of body frame that doesn't necessarily age well in the OF, too. He's athletic, but he's also huge. He's got a cannon of an arm, but that doesn't make up for defense that seems to be getting worse. He's a future DH I think.
  11. Counsell just said some pen moves are likely for tomorrow. We know someone needs to be sent down to activate Peralta. I wonder who else is on their way up? Taylor Williams I imagine will be back for sure. But who else. Deolis Guerra? Michael Tonkin? Do they go crazy and pull up a guy from AA? Nate Griep is pitching very well again this year.
  12. Come on now...Grandal, Moustakas, Gamel, Thames, Guerra, Anderson, oh and that guy who just had one of the best Aprils in MLB history. I agree that many players are playing poorly and there are real problems on this team, especially pitching. But this is just too much. I am thinking he means pitching-wise ... which would be 100% the truth. I get that guys regress year to year, but 12 guys on a 13-man pitching staff? That's a big ouch.
  13. Uh Rock, why would Freddy's pitch count be severely limited? That doesn't make a lot of sense.
  14. Jeffress sitting at 94-95 tonight. Do you think we can cool it on the "OMG WHAT DO WE DO WITH JEFFRESS?!?" talk for awhile?
  15. I really am having a hard time pegging him. His stuff looks so good at times, then so hittable at other times. He's frustrating to far this year.
  16. JJ didn't get much Spring Training. I think concern is warranted, but he's looked fine in his other outings, and was hitting 93-94. I want to see if he bounces back before getting worried.
  17. I saw Endgame last night. Without revealing any spoilers, all I can say is WOW! They do a fabulous job tying up the storylines of several characters, while teasing some big ones to come in the next installment of these movies. They did a great job with the callbacks to the other movies over the last decade, without it seeming like a "clip show" type situation.
  18. Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born, and the horror genre say hello. A Star is Born grossed $400 some million worldwide. Suicide Squad, a colossal flop, had a net of $571 million. That places it 100th on the list of the top 100 grossing films of all time. You're talking about a Best Picture nominee, and it doesn't even hold a candle to any MCU film. Get Out was a hit with a worldwide gross of $255m against a $4mm budget. Halloween 2019, commercially and mostly critically successful, $254mm against $10mm Those smash hits aren't even on the same cosmic plane as fantasy/hero relative duds. Bohemian Rhapsody is a once every 5 years success story. My point still holds. Those types of films are not replicable to the point studios can depend on them to keep the lights on. To put it in perspective, Black Panther grossed nearly half a billion dollars more than BR. Ant Man and the Wasp out-grossed A Star is Born by $200mm. That is a C-Tier film for the MCU and one of 4 or 5 they can make in a year. Comparing it to the cream of the crop Oscar nominated films isn't really relevant because the studio is lucky if they can get three of those to make money. And that is why Marvel Studios will continue to pump out 3-4 releases every year. It's basically printing money. I will say, though, that Marvel does an honorable job reinvesting in solid casting, great special effects and marketing, though. It's going to be very interesting to see where they go from here. They still have mountains and mountains of source material to draw from.
  19. Who is Smith? You mean Wilson? If so, I could see Wilson ending up in San Antonio. Is another team going to give him a better spot to get to the majors? He may be back. Pretty sure that is a Harry Doyle quote from Major League
  20. Savage also compares very favorably athletically to Nick Collins. Collins was a tad thicker (roughly 8-10 pounds heavier), but the testing numbers are nearly identical. Collins went to a smaller school in Bethune Cookman, and played a lot of slot CB in college, so his safety play was more of a projection. Savage is much more of a finished product at safety, and played on a bigger stage in college. I loved the Savage pick. I think the Packers may have just found their starting FS for the next 7-8 years.
  21. 4/17 4/23 4/28 5/3??? seems about right. 3 IP or 50 pitches whichever comes first seems to be the pattern. It'll be interesting to see if that trend continues. If they start to slowly stretch him out, I would imagine its with the thought of keeping him in line as a rotation prospect. If the 3 IP or 50 pitch limits continue, you can draw the conclusion that they are viewing him as a multi-inning pen option. If it's the former, great, starting pitching prospect. If it's the latter, though, we could eventually see him tossing big league innings in August.
