  1. Eh, we hear that talk every year and it never happens. The NL is so deep. I don't think anyone was ever going to run away with anything. Also ... its April. Everyone is a playoff contender. That means trade asks are going to be sky high.
  2. Have you ever caught and had someone throw a fastball when you’re expecting some sort of off-speed? My guess is that’s what happened. That was exactly what happened. Looked like Grandal was setting up to catch a splitter.
  3. I'm starting to wonder what the point is of leaving Adrian Houser down in San Antonio racking up dominant start after dominant start. Could this team not use another multi-inning power arm in the pen?
  4. Shaw is the 3B for the immediate and pretty distant future. Why move him for one season, only to mess with him and move him back next year, when you have another guy who is on a one year deal who is arguably roughly the same there defensively?
  5. No move announced yet. Wouldn't surprise me if they waited till tomorrow to see if anyone else in the pen bites the bullet and has to cover multiple innings tonight. Anderson, Barnes and Petricka are all possibilities.
  6. This is about where I'm at with Burnes/Peralta. They've had 3 starts. They'll probably get at least a handful more starts before any sort of change is considered. All that said, is Chase Anderson really a better option than either guy? Or do we look at Zack Brown or Adrian Houser? That's what we are looking at if we make a change, aside from signing Keuchel which I simply don't think will happen. Regarding Peralta, I don't understand why he doesn't throw his offspeed stuff more. You can't get guys out in this league with fastball only, not as a starter. I don't care how much extension or spin rate or whatever other trendy metric, these are MLB hitters...and Peralta is likely facing multiple all-star caliber hitters every start. These hitters don't become all-stars because a guy can dominate them with fastball only. I think hitters would have a much tougher time catching up to his high fastball if he threw the breaking pitch more, and low fastballs if it could potentially be a changeup that drops out of the zone. I think Jimmy Nelson will likely be shuttled to AAA to build up his innings this week. I imagine he'll make 3-4 starts there, then they'll decide where to go with him. That timeline is looking like mid-May. I imagine that if he checks out stuff and health-wise, he'd be the first one up to take someone's spot after a handful more starts get the team through the next month or so.
  7. Highly doubt that they are looking at at QB at #12, but #30 is a prime spot for a falling QB. That 5th year option is huge if the QB turns into a franchise guy. Rodgers is the same age as Favre was in 2005. Although Rodgers hasn't shown the waffling retirement tendencies Favre did during the later portion of his career, he's also had more injuries, so if a QB falls to #30, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that they pick one. That #30 pick could also be very valuable if a QB falls and another team wants to jump into that spot to grab him.
  8. Tiger fan or not, yesterday's round was really awesome to watch. I caught the back 9 with my 10-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter, who have never watched a minute of golf in their lives, and by the end they were cheering and jumping up and down when Tiger hit that putt to make bogey on 18. Tiger likely has some good years left if things go his way, but I doubt if there will ever be another athlete who has been so transcendent and has changed the game as much. What we saw was an absolute legend recapturing the skills that made him that way again.
  9. Velo the same every outing is concerning. Last year he didn’t have shoulder weakness. Lower velo wouldn’t be as concerning if he was getting AAA hitters out. He's literally throwing the same velocities he was in early April last year. He's low 90s, not mid 80s like he was in Spring Training. People much more informed on what is happening are making this decision. I suggest we trust them. Edit: Also, pen is looking just fine. No need to overly stress out about JJ not hitting 98 on a minor league rehab assignment in April
  10. I know what you mean. My Davies post was more of a hope than a declaration. I've always liked guys like Davies who aren't country strong and aren't winging it at 96+. He knows how to pitch. I know there's a lot of Brewer fans who don't like him, including some on this board. I think that actually makes me root for him even more.
  11. I know it's still pretty early, but I'm starting to think Zach Davies may be good again. Getting the 2017 version of Davies would be absolutely huge for this team with the inconsistency at other spots in the rotation.
  12. https://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx?playerid=9490&position=P&statArr=&legend=1&split=base&time=daily&start=2018&end=2018&rtype=mult&gt1=15&dStatArray=SI&ymin=&ymax= Looking at his velocities from April last year, I don't think its too concerning. Maybe a tick or two slower this year, but he had a full spring last year too.
  13. Wouldn't a AAAA guy, by common definition, be an advanced-age guy who shows well in AAA, but hasn't shown enough in his big league opportunities to stick? If that is the case, a picture of Wilkerson (who turns 30 next month) might as well be next to the Wikipedia entry. I would say the chance is just as high that he's dropped from the 40-man as he pitches for the Brewers this year. The fact that they decided not to call him up in September last year after the AAA season concluded, I think, was pretty telling on how they feel about his future chance to make an impact.
  14. I don't disagree. He was brutal. But I personally think they made the right decision bringing him back. Track record is important.
  15. I think you answered your own question, second half ERA was 27 I get it. Recency bias is powerful. I guess I just feel that guys with a track record of success should be afforded the chance to right the ship before being dumped.
  16. People forget that Albers was a stud for the Nationals in 2017, and was the pen's savior in April and May last year. The guy can pitch. Yeah he had an injury-induced rough stretch last year, but I don't understand where this idea came from that he is useless.
  17. Or Shaw. If Shaw to 1B eventually happens, I wonder if Hiura is in their thoughts. He's been solid in AAA so far, but it's like management told him in spring training "We're the Brewers ... don't worry about striking about, because DINGERS!"
  18. Watching Urias, who is a much more highly touted prospect than any of the Brewers Big 3, get slapped around makes me feel better about our young starters. Grass is green, water is wet, young starters are inconsistent. We're just going to have to roll with it until they get it figured out, for better or worse.
