  1. This team isn't playing horrible lately, but they've had too many "offense can't be bothered to show up" games. Can't have that in the playoffs. I know Williams is pitching very well, but it isn't like we're facing Kershaw. They gotta put together better at-bats.
  2. Yep ... this extra scoreboard watching is fun, but if they finish the season strong, they'll likely take the division. 1.5 games back is not much. The White Sox always seem to play the Cubs tough, too. That final Cubs/Cards series looms huge right now.
  3. Christian Yelich, in back-to-back games Tuesday and Wednesday next week against the Cardinals
  4. I get the feeling that Kratz seeing more time is due partially to pitcher preference. Perhaps several guys in the rotation just prefer him as the receiver. The numbers seemingly back that up, as several guys have much better numbers throwing to Kratz than they do Pina. I get the feeling Pina is going to see the majority of the time next year (probably 4-5 starts a week) with Nottingham as the #2 next year.
  5. Gotta piss off the Pirates just enough that they play well in four against the Cubs next week.
  6. .... Are you agreeing? Not agreeing? I'm confused. Dot dot dot dot isn't a response.
  7. I mean this in a non-snarky way, but why do you want to target Paxton if you think he'll decline soon? Pretty sure he meant the Mariners will decline soon.
  8. Given Guerra's success this year against the Cards, I'd have him ready for multiple innings early on, perhaps as even the first guy out of the pen.
  9. I know what do do with that information - hope the Brewers can defy logic and sweep the Cardinals next week. And also, go Rockies!
  10. Yep ... that is why I am certain it wouldn't happen. Josh Hader in the 1 game Wild Card has about a 95% chance of appearing. The only reason he wouldn't is if the Brewers are up 15-1...and they still probably would throw Hader. So he'll know he's pitching no matter what. I'm certain he won't be starting. I've been proven wrong a lot with this team, but this one I'm pretty confident in. In theory the idea makes sense, but it's way out of Counsell's wheelhouse.
  11. Yep ... that is why I am certain it wouldn't happen.
  12. None of the top playoff contenders play today, which is a nice little reprieve from scoreboard watching. But come tomorrow, it's time to cheer heartily for the White Sox, Giants, Padres, DBacks and Phillies! Go also-rans!
  13. DBacks blank the Cubs 9-0 in a one-hitter. This makes me quite happy. If the Brewers laid a turkey egg yesterday, the one the Cubs laid tonight is the size of a brontosaurus.
  14. Welcome to baseball. Yep ... baseball. The greatest, yet most frustrating game there is. Imagine Cub fans tonight watching their "ace" Cole Hamels getting destroyed by the DBacks AAAA All-Stars, while the offense has one measly hit against Ray and Ziegler. The Cubs are one-upping the Brewers yet again
  15. Something tells me, though, that they aren't going to let Burnes' first MLB start be a high-pressure play-in Wild Card game. Then have Hader start, the idea is just to use the bullpen. Same difference regarding first MLB start. I mean, I get the logic, but that just really, really doesn't seem like a Counsell type move. I think it will be Chacin or Miley, but with a really short leash. Nothing those guy have done this year would make me not trust them in that situation.
  16. Hamels getting full-on shelled now, with 7 ERs through 6 innings. Why they are leaving him in to get shellacked is anyone's guess. Seems odd to let a guy you will be depending on in the playoffs in a couple weeks get brow-beaten.
  17. Something tells me, though, that they aren't going to let Burnes' first MLB start be a high-pressure play-in Wild Card game.
  18. I know he's settled down since the 1st inning, but I gotta admit I kinda love seeing Cole Hamels getting smacked around by a lineup of scrubs after he rode into Chicago on his magic unicorn and sprinkled pixie dust on the Cubs' junk rotation.
  19. It's not that I dislike Augie at all, but Tim Dillard has been really fun this week. With a little polish, he's got a great future in broadcasting. I hope the Brewers find a spot for him if he chooses to hang up the spikes for good. It would be good to get him involved with TV and maybe some radio work, then when Ueck is ready to retire, Dillard would be a ready-made replacement. Former Brewer, funny, self-depreciating, funny stories, and he comes off as a super fun, nice guy. I know some here aren't real keen on his humor, but I think he proved he can play it straight too.
  20. LOL, I've been wrong a ton this year. Not necessarily a great look for me, but the Brewers are 21 over and a likely playoff team, so I'm ok with it Domingo Santana is proving me wrong lately, too, and I couldn't be happier.
  21. Everything about the guy has been impressive. I shook my head in wonder when we picked him up, I was wrong... I remember when he was signed. If you were the president of the "What the Heck are they Thinking?" club, I was secretary of state. I, too, was 100% wrong on Miley ... and I have to say, I was so adamant that it was a bad signing, it looks even worse in hindsight. Pretty happy to have no clue in this case.
  22. I think after that showing yesterday, the frustration was justified. They looked like a completely different team tonight. And Monday night, for that matter. Yesterday was a certified clunker, though. Can't afford many of those this time of year. That's why people were frustrated.
