  1. "best case scenario" Seriously? You lost me there, bub. Once again, you are choosing to be contrarian and whine simply in a not so veiled attempt to strengthen your point. I do agree that the timing of the deal was crap. I would think that they likely could have held onto Hader through this season, and then dealt him this offseason for a solid return. That leads me to believe that the Padres offer was one that they just felt they couldn't turn down. Which also leads me to believe that they hold Gasser and Ruiz in extremely high regard internally. Obviously they have a much higher opinion of those two prospects than you do. So ... if those guys don't end up working out, it is a direct indictment on their external scouting and player development departments. Right now this trade looks like a big loss. But the final chapter hasn't been written yet. Not by a long shot.
  2. I'm with you. I've thought that site was a joke ever since the Grisham/Davies for Urias/Lauer deal, when they retroactively went in and lowered Urias's trade value significantly immediately following the deal to make the deal itself not look as lopsided in the Brewers' favor according to their algorithm. They've since done that on other deals, and the site owner even admitted that they do it. I'm sorry, but when you move the goalposts like that, you've lost me.
  3. I fail to see how using Eric Lauer as a comp is an insult to Gasser. Lauer is a very good MLB starting pitcher. If giving up one year of control on Hader means we get 5 years of control on a solid #3 type rotational lefty with upside, that is a very solid get by any metric. Ruiz is 22, and is coming off a historic-type season in AAA. Writing him off his upside as "most likely a 5th outfielder" is incredibly premature.
  4. LOL, so what exactly was your point to begin with? He was great in 541 AAA PAs. Not so good in 36 MLB PAs. No one is disputing that. They way you presented it, though, made it appear that you were using those 36 PAs to directly counter those using his AAA stats as evidence of his value. Perhaps that was an incorrect assumption?
  5. Dishonest? That's rich. Those numbers are simply inconsequential. Especially when you bring them up without acknowledging that the guy owned AAA this year. It's simply being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian.
  6. So ... do you want Stearns gone? Because to me, you don't make a post like this without wanting him gone.
  7. It would have been very easy to miss it. It was an espresso-sized cup of coffee. Come on.
  8. Except that prospect grades are completely and utterly subjective. The Brewers could internally see Gasser and Ruiz as two of the top prospects in their system, and judging by the way they aggressively promoted Gasser especially, that wouldn't surprise me. Isn't it more prudent to grade this deal on the eventual overall sum of the parts, rather than on subjective, outside-of-the-organization prospect analysis?
  9. Moore would be a terrific get. But the Packers are notoriously conservative when it comes to these types of potential deals, which makes me think that if Moore is really on the table, they will be outbid. What about Robbie Anderson? They've flirted with him in the past, and the price to get him I imagine wouldn't be nearly as high ... maybe a mid-round pick? He would bring speed and big-play ability.
  10. I have been continuously writing off a potential OBJ deal, but the skillset he would provide does make a lot of sense given what they currently have in the WR corps. Health would have to check out, obviously, but having a proven deep threat out there, even as a decoy, would go a long way toward opening up the offense.
  11. You can't preface things by saying "hindsight is 20/20", then immediately write off the two biggest "gets" in this deal in Ruiz and Gasser. Also, I get the Inman/Gasser comparison, except that they have completely different body types, throw completely different stuff, and throw with different arms. Other than that, exactly the same!
  12. I am roughly 95% sure that Willson Contreras will be in a Cardinal uniform next year. The fit makes perfect sense, the Cardinals hate the Cubs, so stealing their last good remaining player would be a feather in their cap, and it just seems like a Cardinal thing to do.
  13. So the board didn't break my way in one of my drafts, and I ended up with D'Andre Swift, Raashad Penney, Eli Mitchell, AJ Dillon and Khalil Herbert as my RBs. Needless to say, things aren't going well in that league.
  14. Maybe they will eventually. But it sure as heck most likely isn't going to be in 2023. Probably not in 2024 as well, unless they both really break out.
  15. I'm not ignoring anything. I see your point, which is exactly why I said it wouldn't necessarily shock me to see them move on. But for the reasons listed earlier, I don't expect it. I'd be a little bummed to see him go, as he's seemingly a fun guy to have around. But you bring up a valid point as to whether that is worth his contract and the roster spot. If I were the GM, and solely basing the decision on Xs and Os, and the bottom line, he'd probably be non-tendered. But I'm not, and the team doesn't base their decisions entirely on those factors, so my best guess is that he's back.
  16. Relief pitching is volatile. There are plenty of instances out there of a guy having a career year, only to follow it up with one where he regularly gets lit up. Suter is a guy who has never relied on "stuff", so I wouldn't expect him, at 33, to suddenly lose it. Despite his somewhat down year (by his standards) in 2022, I would imagine that some consistency would be appreciated by the team. The guy has pitched in a lot of roles over the years, and while he's never been close to a world-beater, he's been an effective and valuable cog in what has typically been a very good pen, while also serving as a roughly league-average starter earlier in his career. So while it wouldn't necessarily shock me to see the team move on from him, I don't expect it.
  17. I give the guy credit for owning it at least. His wins certainly outweigh his losses, so a mulligan is in order IMO. He also went on to say that he expects to remain with the Brewers, along with CC.
  18. There's obviously something to be said for clubhouse chemistry, though. We saw that firsthand this year. Suter is a glue guy in that clubhouse. That's why I felt that, unless he obviously implodes, he'll be back.
  19. I don't know if Cousins necessarily has a spot sewn up. As much as this board has wanted to jettison Suter over the years, he's the longest tenured member of the team, and I doubt he goes anywhere unless he completely implodes (which he hasn't). A 3.78 ERA, while certainly not great, is reasonable for a middle reliever.
  20. Severino was previously DFA'd, and is already no longer on the 40-man roster. I could easily see Gustave, Perdomo and Suter back because they are cheap and decent pen arms. Maybe Gott as well, as he had his ups and downs but did look solid for some pretty good stretches. If Rogers is cheap, maybe. Maybe a ML deal for Rosenthal if he feels like he owes the Brewers, Jace will likely be back if his market doesn't materialize. Alexander, Narvaez, Hiura, Reyes and Cutch are likely gone.
  21. Sal Frelick has played a grand total of four games at 3B as an 18-year-old in the Futures Collegiate baseball League. Just ... no.
  22. To be fair, many of those who drag Yelich give the appearance of hating absolutely everything about this organization.
  23. And also didn't show up on the forum a day to two days after there was an actual discussion thread started on the same transaction.
  24. Exactly! He's a core player, whether some here want to admit it or not. With what they are paying him for the duration of his contract, they are obligated to get as much of a return on that investment as possible. That means they need to fill spot around him with players who are going to complement what he can still do well.
  25. Caleb Jones is on the NFI list. COVID? Something else? Who knows? But I don't think they can count on him for anything anytime soon.
