  1. Why in the world would they let Thames hit in that spot? Turned his back on a meatball down the middle.
  2. Hell of a catch! If the Brewers do end up finishing ahead of these guys, it's because they earned it. Cubs aren't going to give anything away.
  3. Gotta get some more runs. Too nerve wracking depending on the pitching staff to throw up zeros every inning.
  4. And what did Barnes do that posts or this are flying? Two choppers. Just thought it was playing with fire pitching Barnes there. He's been pretty bad since the end of April.
  5. Bringing in Knebel now. I mean yeah, I guess. But couldn't Corey just have started the inning?
  6. Barnes should be glued to the bench in a game like this. No way he should be pitching.
  7. Remains to be seen. I am basing my praise off the fact that a more traditional move would be to let him because he hasn't given up an runs despite lots of walks and missed pitches. For example, the super loyal manager types like RRR and the Yost infection would never make a move like this. I guess, even with the larger pen, there aren't enough good pitchers out there I trust to get 15 outs. I don't think Hader can go real long tonight. Burnes could go a couple I guess.
  8. Well, preferably your pinch hitter doesn't go down on 3 pitches. That was not ideal.
  9. Yup, lots of good hitters in that lineup. They are going to hit balls hard regardless of who's on the mound. Wow, Saladino pinch hitting. This will be interesting. Pen better be up to the challenge.
  10. Cards lose 4-3. Carpenter strikes out looking with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the bottom of the 9th. Would be nice to put a little breathing room between us and the Cards in the coming week.
  11. That is almost verbatim what many fans said when Favre was getting near the end of the line. It may not be probable that yet another All-World QB will succeed Rodgers, but it isn't impossible either.
  12. No doubt. This team has proven this year that they should be considered among the elite teams in the NL.
  13. I guess I'd prefer that the Cardinals lose than the Dodgers. If the Dodgers manage to get hot and either sweep or take 3-4 against the Cardinals this weekend, that would be a pretty tough hole for the Cards to climb out of.
  14. But is he even going to be worth the 10 million or so he’ll get? Likely not. He isn’t versatile (just Brewer versatile apparently) and has hit poorly since he’s come over. Better off going into FA and getting Marwin gonzalez or Escobar, players who can move to SS after Huira comes up (they’ve also both outhit Schoop this year) you'd likely have to give multi-year commitments to those guys as opposed just a 1 year commitment to Schoop. And depending on if they feel Arcia is the SS of the present and future, you would be talking a pretty sizable contract for Gonzalez or Escobar to be a utility infielder. Having Schoop back for next year actually works out terrifically time wise with Hiura. This way there won't be the pressure to bring him up to start the year next year.
  15. I would say this game is a "must win" for the Shuckers
  16. Agreed. They aren't going to divulge any more information than is absolutely necessary. No reason to give the Vikings any extra knowledge. Yep. Sucks for us fans, but the Vikings also have to prepare for both QBs. If Kizer were forced to start, the gameplan would be a lot different.
  17. I wonder if this may be a night where we see Yelich in CF and Cain with a night off? I would think Thames at 1B, Shaw at 2B, Schoop at SS and Moose at 3B. Maybe Broxton gets an OF start with Yelich and Granderson, in which case Yelich plays LF with Broxton in CF and Grandy in RF. Would be good to have strong OF defense with Chase on the mound.
  18. Again, vacuum. You aren't taking into account that Villar was hurt at the time of the deal, and was barely playing before that, and that Counsell likely wasn't going to reverse course. I think they made the decision that Villar was not part of their future plans, and were probably lucky to be able to get some value out of him before dumping him for nothing at the end of this season. Yes, you can look at the numbers, and on the surface the deal appears very questionable. But you know there were more factors at play besides Villar's stats. Sometimes you just gotta move a guy, regardless of his potential future value.
