  1. I don't get it. It was obvious that the Reds were tanking this season when they did absolutely nothing in the offseason to help their club. I wouldn't even really call it a rebuild, though, as they haven't made any effort to move their veterans with value to restock their system. I would imagine guys like Votto, Hamilton, Duvall, Barnhart, Iglesias, Bailey and even Gennett would have solid value. It isn't Price's fault that team leadership has no direction.
  2. I would love for Ray to continue to rake in AA, or even get promoted to AAA and keep improving his stock so that he's a much more valuable trade chip. Trading him right now would be selling low on a potentially very valuable player. So far, this season at least, he is living up to that high draft position. Lets see if it continues, then talk about trading him as a centerpiece come the end of July. Right now I'm sure most teams have Burnes as probably a step above Woodruff and Peralta value-wise, as he hasn't done anything to dull his shine. Woodruff has just been ok in his MLB time and his AAA time last year, while Peralta is still pretty green, and doesn't have the eye-popping fastball to make opposing GMs swoon. If they all continue to perform well at AAA, though, all will be high value guys. Others like Ponce, Supak and Ortiz are starting to force themselves into the conversation as well. The minor league system has more pitching talent than I can ever remember. That's why dealing a guy like Burnes wouldn't be such a bad thing.
  3. Why would the Marlins want players like Perez, Bethancourt or Pina? They are rebuilding. They are going to want top prospects. Even with taking Prado, it is going to cost a mint. Just maybe it would be one of Burnes or Peralta, and not both.
  4. You think its bad here, try surfing Brewers Twitter or the Facebook comments under every line-up he appears in. The hate gets pretty unfathomable. Yeah, it is pretty disgusting. It is why I usually ignore someone that tells me that Wisconsin fans are different from the rest. Because it is pure crap. Pretty sure 99% of them were also Carlos Gomez and Nyjer Morgan haters. There is a large contingent of baseball fans out there who just cannot stand players who aren't fundamentally sound all the time, or show a little bit of flair.

  6. That was just relaying what someone else here told me in spring training when I wondered the same thing. I mean, he's definitely athletic enough. Perhaps it's an angle thing?
  7. We do it with Santana in right and Thames at first but you hardly hear a peep about those two when errors are made. It is what brought me to Villar's bandwagon. It's almost like people have the Villar hate cued up on their iPhones, ready to strike. You are always gonna get good and bad with him. Just gotta keep hoping the good outweighs the bad. So far this year, he's come closer to resembling 2016 Villar than 2017. Just wish the power would warm up ... but I think he's making a concerted effort to get base hits rather than hit for power.
  8. So is the "two-inning save by committee" approach a thing now?
  9. Oh man, tailor made double play. Gonna have to live with the Villar good and bad.
  10. But did you know Scooter Gennett hit 27 HRs last year?!?!?
  11. Despite Villar looking like .... well ... Villar at the plate, he's still 2-4. Certainly hasn't been the problem with this offense, in my estimation.
  12. Wonder if Counsell noticed the same thing? He just got yanked. I would understand if it was for defensive purposes, but is Hernan really that much better defensively? Also, so much for Lorenzo's day off. I missed it, can someone fill me in? What happened? Domingo looked lost in his at-bat in the bottom of the 7th, which really isn't anything new. He almost looked lethargic up there, though, which is surprising, because I have never doubted his effort. Despite my bashing him, I really hope he figures it out soon, because his missing bat in the middle of this lineup is really hurting. Hopefully he just hasn't gone a hot streak yet.

  14. It's gotta be killing Counsell to have a starter pitching into the 7th.
  15. Santana's approach sucks. It has me hoping Yelich sees more time in RF ... or Phillips is brought back up.
  16. Maybe, however, Cain hasn't made many 'tough' plays yet this year either. ^ This. Cain has looked old to me, not like a guy with another 4 years to play on his contract, that's for sure. His contract is going to bite us, watch and see. That seems overly harsh for a guy 18 games into a 5-year deal.
  17. Hasn't Cain been known for bringing solid to great defense? I doubt he's lost that much at 32.
  18. He will linger on the active roster for several days, maybe getting a pinch hit appearance on Saturday. Then they'll put him on the 10-day DL next Tuesday. Par for the course in Brewerland.
  19. Counsell having Perez on the team is like giving a tablet to a 5-year-old on a roadtrip. Everyone knows that he shouldn't be on it as much as he is, but if it makes him happy and he isn't complaining about being hungry or having to pee 5 times every hour, you live with it.
  20. Thames Yelich Santana Shaw Perez Villar Arcia Bandy Davies Seems odd to throw Yelich into CF right off the bat, but I suppose Cain does need a breather. Surprising Braun isn't in the lineup, though.
  21. Questioning whether an electric pitcher may be able to take on a more valuable role is not the same. Yes, I realize that relievers have more value than they used to, but starting pitching is still infinitely more valuable. When you have 4 starting pitchers out of 5 that can't make it past 5 innings the bullpen tends to be more valuable than the starting pitching, not the other way around. You are trying to start an argument where there really isn't one. Hader is very valuable in the pen, nobody is denying that. But if he can take a spot in the rotation and give them 7 strong innings every 5 days, instead of 2 strong innings every 3 days, that is likely more valuable.
