  1. Well, he was in the bullpen to start the season. I sure hope he was brought up to start, but I don't think it's a given. Bullpen I'm sorry, but this is dumb. Evidently Woodruff has been slated for the Suter treatment this year.
  2. Do you think he's got legit MLB stuff? Not that he came out of nowhere, but I don't think many saw him mowing down hitters at AA as a 22-year-old.
  3. I assume this means Suter is going to the pen, and they will be 8-deep there. They wouldn't bring Woodruff up to pitch in relief.
  4. Bethancourt has been good too in AAA. Bandy is pretty redundant at this point. Given the dearth of decent catching options out there, it's possible they might be able to make a DFA trade with Bandy for some minor league depth, but if that doesn't happen, I don't have much problem with full on cutting bait.
  5. Agreed. I don't necessarily think the Packers are in a rebuild, but they are in drastic need of a restock, as last year proved that their depth at some positions (QB, TE, CB, WR and OLB) is among the worst in the league. When you have players that have proven to be injury-prone as your starters at those position, it is absolutely imperative that you have strong depth available. That's why it wouldn't surprise me to see the #14 pick parlayed into a lower 1st rounder along with an additional 1st or a 2nd.
  6. Isn't this common in just about every profession? Yes but that wouldnt be honest if I said thats the only reason why jj did what he did. People dont seem to realize what free agency in 2018 would have looked like for jj. Mil gave him a chance to make the most money AND stay home. It isnt perfect but jj is thrilled and really I did my job. His wish list was to max out $ while trying to stay in Mil ultimately he made final call. I support him Well thank you for supporting that decision. Jeffress has been absolutely electric so far this season, and dare I say, his secondary stuff has looked better than during his time a couple years ago as the team's primary closer. He's still slinging it in the mid to upper 90s, but that curve when it's on is knee-buckling. His enthusiasm, passion and attitude is a great fit for this team's chemistry as well. He seems to be very well liked, and it appears that he's taken on a leadership role out in the pen. His attitude of "just give me the ball whenever, and I'll help the team" seems to be contagious.
  7. I see many mocks advocating for the Packers to draft Harold Landry, the edge rusher from Boston College. I only have one response to that: Carl Bradford. They are extremely similar players measurable-wise (Landry has a bit longer arms), and both were very productive as collegiate pass rushers. The Packers soon found out that Bradford was too small and not a good enough athlete to be an effective edge rusher in the NFL, and since cutting him, he has kicked around several practice squads and is close to washing out of the league. Landry was more productive in college, and is predicted to go much higher than Bradford as a mid-1st rounder. However, whoever drafts him I predict will eventually come to the same conclusion that the Packers did with Bradford. If he's the Packers' pick at 14, it would be a HUGE mistake. I think the Packers are keyed in on taking one of the 3 top DBs in the draft (Ward, Fitzpatrick or James). Ward would be your more-prototypical perimeter CB, while James is an athletic safety (think Nick Collins) while Fitzpatrick is a hybrid of the two, profiling as a more talented, smarter Demarious Randall. I heard rumblings this morning that they are talking to the Raiders about possibly trading up to #10 to better assure that one of those guys will still be there. If they don't trade up, I predict they trade down to a little later in the 1st round, and grab some more solid capital in the process. The boards aren't really falling great for them right now if they stay at 14. I think they could trade down to the mid-20s and still grab a guy like Davenport. Like I mentioned a few days ago, the Pats want a QB, and their two 1st rounders are very much in play. If one of the top 4 QBs drops, or if the Pats are that enamored with Lamar Jackson, there could be a deal there.
  8. I'm a huge Phillips fan, so I certainly wouldn't mind him coming up. If he does, though, I would think it would be to play regularly. I don't think they would pull him up as a rarely-used bench bat.
  9. Will probably mean we'll see more of Braun at 1B, and possibly the return of Choi. Neither are ideal, considering how hot Thames has been. Hopefully it's nothing too serious, but Counsell didn't seem overly optimistic last night.
  10. I am happy Oliver Drake didn't get the opportunity to hand you his beer.
  11. Nice solid win tonight. Pitching, especially the pen, continues to be the team's biggest pleasant surprise.
  12. One out save? Jennings probably gets the 2 lefties. If he gets those two why not let him face one more? "That 2-inning save fad was soooooo last week!" - Craig Counsell
  13. Cain looked pretty quick beating that out. Perhaps the rumors of his demise have been overblown?
  14. The guy is too talented not to get hot at some point. He was pretty streaky last year as well, though, which I think was the catalyst to go out and get guys like Cain and Yelich, who are much more consistent hitters. I don't think it's possible to hit .280 and blast 30 bombs and call those shallow numbers. I am very surprised he wasn't traded in the offseason, but now that it appears he's here for the long haul, I hope he gets things turned around soon. First 2 ABs tonight looked good, but he regressed back to chasing again.
  15. Wow, I can't believe Captain Quick Hook is letting Davies stay in there. Thought for sure this would be Jennings now.
  16. Nice game from Villar tonight. It would be nice if he could turn the power on, but he's getting on base. Good start toward his redemption year.
  17. Kodi Medeiros putting up a bunch of zeros yet again for Biloxi. He's really putting himself back on the prospect map so far. Really excited by the high-level pitching at multiple levels so far. I hope it continues.
  18. I still don’t understand how the Red Sox didn’t see a solid power hitting 3B in Shaw. What a great trade!
  19. You take the good with the bad with this weird roster construction, I suppose.
