  1. Wonder if New England is going to make a move for Lamar Jackson? Next 5 picks is his landing spot.
  2. Wonder if the Packers are talking with Miami to jump Tampa and Washington? Similar needs for all 3
  3. Cardinals have to be taking Rosen here.
  4. There goes McGlinchey. Raiders may be willing to trade with GB now.
  5. Bears go Smith. Niners have a lot of needs, so they could go James or Fitzpatrick too. I think it's going to be Edmunds though.
  6. Or Bears could go McGlinchey. The'r line sucks.
  7. I think Bears go Smith, and Niners go Edmunds. Oakland and Miami are trade candidates.
  8. Both James and Fitzpatrick are still around, and we are getting into territory where it wouldn't cost an arm and two legs to move up.
  9. He probably should be playing, but there's no spot for him No room at the inn, so to speak? Bravo!
  10. He probably should be playing, but there's no spot for him
  11. I just love "what-aboutism's". The original plan may have been to ship off one of our depth pieces but instead of paniking when the market wasn't right, he stood pat. That is a smart move by a GM and it has paid off whether you want to give credit to him or not. You mention trotting out Suter as if he is the only pitcher we can try in that spot. It isn't and it sure as heck doesn't justify any pitching acquisition from this past offseason as just about every one of them have been terrible. He is just getting first opportunity to hold it down. If that doesn't work, Stearns will reach into his deep pocket of pitchers and try someone else. Smile, he is doing a good job. You mention a lot of other scenarios to try to make a point and whiffed. I'm really sorry that it upsets you that some want to give credit to Stearns for building a roster that has withstood some injuries already but hey, we can all have different opinions... I'm first to admit that through the first 25 games, my concerns were misguided. And it's one of those times where I'm happy to be wrong. But I caution that 25 games is a pretty small sample, and the potential negatives of the roster construction could still come up. About the only thing I can logically complain about right now is the failure to trade Santana, given how poor he's looked so far. But as you've pointed out, none of us really have any idea what, if anything, was offered via trade, so the argument is moot.
  12. I see that is being a very viable outcome. Of course, they could trade down and probably still get one or possibly even two of the guys on this list.
  13. I'm not the one who used the word excellent originally, for the record. As I said in my post, if you equate 'excellent' to 'elite', then yes, there's confusion, as they're not currently elite. But he said that he didn't think they would even be above average, when they graded-out at a higher level than that even last year. Again, how do you definte 'high quality, then?' Great, instead of excellent? Talk about a silly debate about semantics. Either way, he was significantly discounting the expected performance of Clark and Daniels based on their actual performance last year. Yes it was an odd post since they are 2 of the only guys on defense that any other team would love to have. If they cut Matthews, I think it would take him about 27 seconds to find a new team on a multi-year, multimillion dollar deal. And it was me who used the term "Excellent". Sorry I'm not buying into PFF's terminology and ranking structure.
  14. I'm not singling you out for this since pretty much everybody thought the same thing. Looking at it now I wonder why it was such a conventional thought. Yes, we lost a huge part of the rotation with Nelson out but barring Nelson, this is essentially the same pitching staff that ranked number nine in all of baseball in ERA last season. It isn't a team that relied on health to get there either. It relied on depth which only got deeper in the offseason. Seriously who could have known Stearns might know more about this team than all the pundits, talking heads and fans? Well, it certainly helps the view on Stearns when the team is on an 8-game hot streak. There will be downs, though, too, and also points in the season where the roster holes are going to be more defined.
  15. Ha Ha had 3 picks last year, and Josh Jones and Kentrell Brice added one each. Burnett didn't have any which may partially explain why he's a Steeler now.
  16. Disagree on Lowry. He is entering year 3, and has improved every year. He's never going to be a star, but provides very solid depth. You need guys like that. You don't give up on them when they are in their early 20s. The secondary is full of a lot of "what ifs". King has all the measurables of a shut-down CB, so hopefully he takes a step this year. The combo of Ha-Ha and Jones really can't be any worse than what Ha-Ha and Burnett provided last year. Ha-Ha's regression from 2016 to 2017 was astounding. I hope that Pettine's defense can get the 2016 Ha-Ha back, but it's not a sure thing. Jones has prototypical safety measureables as well, I just hope he is smart enough to handle the role. I almost wonder if they might try to get James or Fitzpatrick tonight, and let them play safety, which would let Jones rotate between nickel LB and slot corner? I think the Packers went into the offseason intent on grabbing one of the top CBs in free agency, but Gute got sideswiped by the contracts they were getting and froze. That's probably why almost every mock has them trying very hard to get one of the top guys tonight. Also wouldn't surprise me to see them trade a pick/picks for an established vet CB this weekend. I agree that it won't be a good situation if they go into the season banking on guys like Josh Hawkins, Herb Waters, Lenzy Pipkins and Donatello Brown to play significant roles back there. You can get away with one of those type of guys at the back end of the depth chart, but not several like what they have.
  17. To be a good team, you need to play well against teams that aren't so good. If the Brewers can beat up on the bad teams on their schedule, and play .500 ball against the good teams, they are in the playoffs. Beating up on bad teams is something that previous contending Brewer teams sometimes had difficulty with. Chacin is what he is ... a #3-4 starter who is going to mix in some bad games and some effective games. In a perfect world, when Nelson comes back, and if Guerra continues to pitch well, Chacin is a #5 that can be skipped once in a while. In that role he's fine.
  18. Yep: Looking forward to seeing him in AAA. Gotta think he's taking Woodruff's rotation spot.
  19. I don't really want them to trade up, but if they are sold on Ward, James or Fitzpatrick, it could happen. It is possible that one of those guys slides to 14, but they really aren't interchangeable. Ward or Fitzpatrick would fill a more immediate need, as they can play perimeter/slot corner. James could as well, but he's more of the traditional safety, albeit with elite-level measureables. If Ward, Fitzpatrick and James are gone, I predict a trade down with the team trying to jump up to grab Lamar Jackson or another falling QB. I think Joshua Jackson will still be there in the 20s, as will guys like Davenport.
  20. Corbin Burnes got knocked around pretty good in Colorado Springs tonight. I guess we should have known that those guys wouldn't be able to throw gems in that thin air forever.
  21. Yes! He's so good, he predicted these injuries! Sheesh Expecting there to be some injuries isn’t too unrealistic considering the players we have. Banking on the depth is turning out to be a very, very good move (or non move) on his part. I can admit that it has worked out so far. The starting pitching has been better than expected, and when combined with the depth at AAA and AA, the pitching hasn't been near the problem many, including myself, expected it to be. I have to admit that it would be nice to have been a fly on the wall to know what, if anything, was offered in trade for guys like Santana, Thames and Aguilar.
  22. They are not comparable. First, the Packers didn't keep Bradford at OLB - they tried moving him to ILB. Second, Landry not only has more length but also tested much better at the combine: Landry: 4.64 (40), 6.88 (3-cone), 4.19 (short shuttle) Bradford: 4.76 (40), 7.25 (3-cone), 4.30 (short shuttle) Scouting reports also say that Landry has elite burst, ability to dip and rip, and bend the edge. Landry also forced at least 10 fumbles in his career. There's a reason Bradford lasted until the 4th round, and why Landry will go in the first. Landry's comp is closer to James Harrison than Bradford. Third... how do you know how much effort Bradford put into learning his position and adjusting to the league, and how do you know how much effort Landry will put in? I don't. I just know that short, small edge rushers wash out more than they succeed. Landry had great college numbers, but as we all know, that does not equate to NFL success. James Harrison is an obvious exception, but its a very, very rare exception. There's much more of a chance that Landry's career mirrors Bradford's than it does Harrison's. The Packers moved Bradford to ILB because he couldn't cut it as an edge rusher, not because that was their original plan. He was a wasted pick. My personal opinion is that Landry will be as well. If the Packers draft him, and he proves me wrong, I'll be happy.
  23. Yes! He's so good, he predicted these injuries! Sheesh
  24. Agreed. I don't necessarily think the Packers are in a rebuild, but they are in drastic need of a restock, as last year proved that their depth at some positions (QB, TE, CB, WR and OLB) is among the worst in the league. When you have players that have proven to be injury-prone as your starters at those position, it is absolutely imperative that you have strong depth available. That's why it wouldn't surprise me to see the #14 pick parlayed into a lower 1st rounder along with an additional 1st or a 2nd. IMO, the Packers really need to be in a rebuild, but they are in denial and instead making desperation heaves hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. Besides Adams, Rodgers and maybe one of the RBs, the rest of the roster pretty garbage. You have a few guys who can play as always, but this roster is a mess and it's Ted Thompson's fault. Jimmy Graham screams declining vet, and Tramon Williams as anything besides a 4th corner at this point is kind of a joke. I don't think Damarious Randall was anything above mediocre but to trade him for the worst QB in the league when you have NOTHING at CB...What are they doing? I hope I'm wrong but I think this season it's going to blow up in their face. They were bad last year but had the Rodgers excuse. I don't see them winning more than 9 games, possibly fewer, and I think Gute fires McCarthy and brings in his own guy, which he probably wants to do now but can't. Wow, that is lot to digest. I'll just say I'm much more optimistic on their chances. I'll say Seattle grossly misused Graham, and he still put up nice numbers. Williams was brought in as a wily vet who can mentor the young guys. Anything they get out of him on the field will be gravy. He was terrific last year for the Cardinals, though, so it isn't a total shot in the dark. Some guys just have the ability to keep playing at a high level as they age. I do agree that the lack of depth is 100% Thompson's fault. I disagree that they don't have talent, though. Bahktiari, Taylor and Linsley are very good O-linemen, and the D-line with Daniels, Clark, Wilkerson and Lowery should be excellent. Martinez is a nice ILB, and King showed a lot of promise last year. There is a solid base to work from, but a lot of unknowns as well.
  25. Do you think he's got legit MLB stuff? Not that he came out of nowhere, but I don't think many saw him mowing down hitters at AA as a 22-year-old. He got 16 points in our preseason 25... I had him at 22. Still the success in AA is impressive. Even if he's on that Wilkerson Perrin Derby teir he's pretty promising. Thanks! Speaking of Perrin, any idea what is going on with him? Is he the "In case of emergency, please break" pitcher right now? Can't gather a whole lot looking at his Twitter, except that he drove through Albuquerque this morning, which is less than 400 miles from Colorado Springs.
