  1. I get that Arcia's defense is valuable, but I don't get pulling Villar when he's been one of the few swinging a decently hot bad. Just so you can try to get two innings out of Drake?
  2. Nah, hes pretty awful. I was really hoping he wasn't going to be on the team coming into this year. You can't come into a situation like that, and walk a score in on 4 straight pitches. It was just as pathetic when Holland did it last night. A relievers only purpose is to normally get through 1 or 2 batters, which he obviously can't do He's thrown pretty well this season so far. He came on with 2 guys on and the game is tied. The walks are inexcusable but this board is ready to cut his head off with every bad pitch. There's nobody else on the team that draws the kind of vitriol he does, and with him, it's as if people want him to fail. I don't think people want him to fail. They just don't want him to be on the team. He isn't horrible as the last reliever in the pen, but Counsell never treats him like that. He's always put in tight spots, and the track record isn't good.
  3. Really too bad for Suter. He pitched terrific tonight. Wish it would have been a little deeper into the game, but that was exactly what the team needed.
  4. So when is it against the unwritten rules to break up a no-hitter with a bunt?
  5. It would really be nice to see Suter eat some innings tonight to give the pen a break. This is the exact type of situation where he's surprised me in the past with a great game seemingly out of nowhere. I predict 7 innings and 1 ER. Hopefully the hitters can get to Martinez better than they did last week.
  6. That logic indicates all those guys stay healthy all year. Given this team's recent history, that's very doubtful to happen. I, too, am on the "Hader should be transitioned into a starter" bandwagon, but I don't think he makes the switch until Spring Training 2019. That would be closer to the Chris Sale timeline (i.e. a partial season as a reliever, followed by a full season as a reliever, then the transition).
  7. I'd love to see them become studs as well, but given the economics of Major League Baseball, the only ways the team is going to be able to acquire a sure-fire top young controllable starter is either trading for one, or developing one themselves. Acquiring an established pitcher would likely have a better chance of success than banking on a minor leaguer ascending to that level. My hope is that we start seeing great results out of our lower-level pitchers so that we wouldn't be forced into trading pitchers who are close to ML-ready. But that's the situation the team is in right now, though. Make no mistake, I love the potential of Burnes and Peralta being eventual contributors, but I don't think they profile as TOR guys quite yet. They may get there, but are by no means sure things. If either are being asked for as the main piece for a guy like Stroman or Fulmer, I would hope Stearns would be interested.
  8. You aren't wrong at all. The team would have to give up high value prospects to get a younger controllable starter in return, no doubt. I'm sure, though, that the team has certain values attached to all their high-level prospects, and some will be easier to get than others. If they trade those high-value guys, the return should be expected to be significant ... I guess like the pitcher version of Yelich. Guys like Stroman and Fullmer fall into that category. Archer too, I guess, to a lesser degree. A lot depends on where they are at standings-wise as well. If they are in striking distance once the calendar turns to July, and the rotation is still having issues, I have no doubt that they will make a move for a big name. Of course, guys like Burnes, Peralta and Houser could theoretically be up in the rotation by then, along with Nelson back, so the point may be moot.
  9. My hope is that they look at maybe one of these starting prospects (two at the most) making it, and use the rest as currency. That's why the idea of using Burnes, Peralta, Houser or the younger guys as collateral for a trade doesn't bother me in the least. Looking at the team's history of developing pitchers, I'd much rather bank on dealing a group of prospects for an established guy, even if the perceived "upside" isn't as great.
  10. Rotation order is completely arbitrary after the first 4-5 games of the season, and won't matter again until the NLDS. It's arguable that it even matters at all at the beginning of the season. The only thing that matters now is that Chacin is one of the team's five best starters. If he is, he'll stay there. If he isn't, he'll be kicked to the bullpen. His ++ slider would actually make him a solid pen candidate if better options are available in the rotation.
  11. NO!!! The focus is on 2017 numbers. Everything before that doesn't exist!!!
  12. https://www.mlb.com/brewers/news/lorenzo-cain-injured-exits-game-vs-cardinals/c-271563360 I think Santana saw some CF time with the Brewers in 2016, but yeah, you don't want him out there unless it's a last resort.
  13. Gonna be a cold one again tomorrow. Plus, you have a terrific defensive CF that will likely be sent down Wednesday for a pitcher. I hope Cain doesn't get off the bench. He's been durable so far, but I think it's best to sit him.
  14. How so? I don't think Cain even went back to the training room. I guess we'll see, but I think (hope) he's fine. Guess I don't like seeing Cain get injured, seeing my "closer" blow another 1 run lead in the 9th, and winning by getting 4 walks in the 10th because an opponents closer obviously isn't up to par yet after taking an eternity to sign. A win is a win I guess, but I think I'm not as high on it because I'd like to see a win where we don't really have to worry much. I'd be happy with a blowout victory at some point here Heck, I'd love a 10-0 laugher as well, but that doesn't make tonight's win any less exhilarating. The Cardinals embarrassed this team last week in 2 of 3, so I'll take a W any way I can get it against those guys.
  15. Wow Erceg has been hot so far. It's so cool having an actual 3B prospect in the system. I think he sees AAA before too long? I wonder if he can play 2B? (Only half kidding ...)
  16. How so? I don't think Cain even went back to the training room. I guess we'll see, but I think (hope) he's fine.
  17. Big win tonight. One they shoulda won, then shoulda lost, then shoulda won by about 4 runs. But hey, I'll take it. Another short outing by Chacin, and clutch hitting is still missing, but the bullpen carried them yet again. Man it's nice having some horses out there.
  18. ESPN announcers didn't either until the first pitch. Must not watch warm ups. Talked about Drakes first save chance out of the break. Ugh ESPN. Isn't the game on FS Wisconsin where you are? That's what I'm watching.
  19. Come on Albers ... get out of this, and I'll drive you to Golden Corral. My treat!
  20. They have a guy who throws absolute gas, and Drake is coming in? Why, Craig, why?
