  1. Eh. If he DHs this year and needs surgery in the offseason I don't think it's the end of the world. Not ideal of course but not that big of a deal. You are then wasting a year of the kid's career. That is a big deal. The bat is arguably ML ready. He isn't going to gain anything DHing at A+ and AA for a year. The only way is makes any sense to keep him active, if he truly does need TJ surgery, is as a trade chip for this season.
  2. I don’t think he ever had TJ. He just had the injury that prevented him from throwing. Found this in pre-draft scouting report: His current elbow injury is bad enough that he’s been strictly a DH since last summer. Hiura attempted to avoid Tommy John surgery by receiving a plasma platelet injection this past winter, but it is unclear if the procedure worked or merely postponed the inevitable. The good news is that the elbow pain hasn’t impacted his hitting at all. So we have a kid with a bum elbow that we are going to try to limp along playing DH, a position he cannot play with the parent club. Awesome! Just get him to Dr. Andrews and get it done with.
  3. Perhaps there are trades out there, but he isn't pulling the trigger for whatever reason. Speculating about the lack of player moves is still speculation. Who knows what the motivation factor is to hanging on to Broxton as basically a 4th-string CF? Also, I am one of those "posters" you speak of, and again don't appreciate the condescension. I sure as heck can wrap my mind around a trade not existing. That doesn't mean I agree with that thought, though.
  4. Agree completely. If he gets it done soon, he could theoretically come back sometime next year no worse for the wear. Only thing I can figure is that he is viewed by the team as a prime trade chip this year, and that goes out the window as soon as he goes under the knife.
  5. Well, might need to pump the brakes on the Hiura hype machine: @AdamMcCalvy 11m11 minutes ago More A helpful heads up from Brewers farm director Tom Flanagan — Keston Hiura will do a lot of DH duty early in the season. After a heavy dose of second base in spring training, he had minor elbow discomfort on some specific throws, so the organization is being extra cautious. I don't like the sound of this. At all.
  6. I would imagine Sogard's chance of sneaking through on waivers is likely better than Perez's. Perez offers more upside with the bat and more positional flexibility, plus he's younger and cheaper. I would agree but the trouble with that is that Sogard has more than 5 years service time. So even if he cleared waivers he could refuse to accept the minor league assignment. That honestly wouldn't be the worst thing, either. Sure, I'd hate throwing that money down the drain, but there isn't much that Sogard is going to offer that Perez, or even Orf or Dubon, don't.

  8. If Braun is healthy, watch out this year. I know he needs his recovery days, but if he's healthy, I want him in the lineup.
  9. Rough at-bat for Cain. Hard to argue that wasn't a strike, though.
  10. I like Jennings so far. Good movement on his pitches, and attacks the zone.
  11. Shaw is gonna have a lot of RBIs this year. So far so good for him. Personally, I think talk of a "probable regression" for him was strongly overblown. He's got a good approach at the plate.
  12. Yeah, other than Hader, Knebel and Barnes, not a lot of heat. Of the starters, Woodruff is the only one that can be considered above average velocity-wise. They could really use a Taylor Williams injection in the pen, and Nelson to return as soon as his DL stint is up.
  13. Enormous jump on Albers. He was halfway to 2nd when Pina caught the ball. Still almost got him. Throw was high. Good slide by Molina too.
  14. Wow, offense is channeling the 2017 post All-Star break offense tonight. Just looking horrible.
  15. Wouldn't logic dictate, then, that you, too, are playing armchair GM by assuming there wasn't a palatable trade for a starting pitcher on the table for Santana? For all we know, there could have been a very nice starting pitcher on the table, but Stearns is severely overvaluing Santana. If that's the case, that's on Stearns. Don't be condescending. Just because I have a more critical view of how Stearns has built this team, doesn't mean my opinion is any less valid than yours.
  16. Wow, offense flailing away like no tomorrow. I swear, it doesn't seem to matter what the personnel is, watching this team hit is like watching Groundhog Day.
  17. You don't really have anything. It doesn't work because they have guys that are everyday players on the bench, and guys that should be on the major league team in the minors. Sure, that is nice on paper, but it doesn't really help the team dynamic. Why? We constantly have good players playing... how doesn’t that help us win ball games? That us very arguable when it comes to the rotation, where trading Santana should have helped. Even if they had to package a good prospect with him, they should have gotten a pitcher.
