  1. Well, they just lost their arb hearing with Betts, so they are shelling out an extra $3 million there. I imagine that would remove them from any interest in Braun (if he'd even accept a trade there). I think Santana makes sense there, though.
  2. Let the speculation begin ... Can you say whether said pitcher is a starter or a reliever? If reliever, I'm going with Brad Hand. Starter? Umm, I dunno. Teheran or Matt Harvey? If so, blah.
  3. Let's be honest ... with last week's moves, there is no way they go into the season with this rotation. Attanasio even said as much, saying they have the payroll flexibility to add a starter. I like Suter as a pitcher, and I think he's got a roll on the team. I think it's likely as a long man/injury replacement swing guy, though, or as rotation insurance at Colorado Springs.
  4. Braun would be a downgrade in RF compared to Phillips for sure, but probably on par if not an upgrade on Santana.
  5. Barring injury, there is no place for Drake in the revamped pen. I think he's a goner. I bet Tyler Webb is also on pins and needles watching these acquisitions. I imagine those two are #39 and #40 on the roster, followed by Bandy.
  6. Kind of a hot take, but I wonder if Knebel is being talked about in potential deals? You know Hader is off the table, so he would be the only other pen option that would have high trade value. And it isn't like the Brewers haven't sold high on a closer before. They could theoretically hand the closers role to Hader and sign Tony Watson, or sign someone like Greg Holland to an affordable deal.
  7. On your first point, I tend to agree with letting Villar and Sogard go into the season at 2B. If they don't play well, there will be plenty of veteran 2B on expensive contracts that crappy teams are looking to dump for a throwaway prospect, exactly how the team acquired Walker last year. On your second point, they already acquired a Rogers/Clark clone to play at 1B in AA with Choi. So yes, you are right. Which also means they aren't going to get much, if anything, in a Aguilar trade.
  8. The rotation is pretty much guaranteed to have injuries at some point, so having Burnes and Woodruff waiting at AAA, along with guys like Wilkerson, Derby and even Suter, Gallardo and Guerra is definitely a good thing. I am overly optimistic on Woodruff, though. I think he profiles as a solid #2-3 starter.
  9. What the heck does this even mean? We missed with him? He came out of nowhere, and had a great half season. Nagging injuries caught up with him last year. What did they miss with? That makes no sense. Trading him at the 16 deadline like some of us begged them to do. Perhaps. Pretty easy to have hindsight on a move that wasn't made a year and a half ago now. The team was in sell mode then as well, so I'm sure if anyone offered anything of value for Guerra, he would have been gone.
  10. I think TB wants Santana and 3-4 prospects for Archer. Like it was stated previously, just say no to TB until they drop their requirements. If Burnes is required, I would just say no. I would consider Santana and Burnes for Archer, but that's it. And I want Tampa to throw in money to offset Archer's salary. Otherwise they can pound sand. Burnes is very close to being MLB ready, and while he probably doesn't bring Archer's talent to the table, it's close.
  11. According to HighHeat19, a trade for Archer would center on Santana plus high-end prospects. It sounds as if they had the foundation of a deal in place with Santana and probably a pitcher like Ortiz or Peralta plus other prospects for Archer, then Tampa switched it up and asked for Santana and Burnes+. I don't think a deal with the Rays gets done without Santana going back, which I am perfectly OK with. I would NOT deal both Burnes and Woodruff, as that saps our starting pitching depth, and they'll likely need 7-10 starters at least due to injury and/or ineffectiveness.
  12. This is probably my number one option too, though I’d prefer they look to trade Thames for some prospects. If Braun plays first I want it to be full time with Aguilar backing him up. Then we can keep Phillips on the roster as someone else who can play a good CF. I'd prefer to trade Santana, Aguiar, and Broxton, as long as they get good value back. Santana is a 30+ HR bat, while Brox is 20+, and Aguiar showed well last year. Then play Braun and Thames at 1B, and make Phillips the starting RF. I think his bat will play well out there as he matures, and that OF defense would be sensational. The idea of a Yelich, Cain, Phillips OF would be enticing to any pitcher. For depth in the OF, they'll still have Perez who is capable of playing any spot, and others like Wren or even Stokes who can play all 3 spots.
  13. No one was going to give them anything for a guy who had a fluke 1/2 season.
  14. I think Darvish would prefer going back to the Dodgers or the Rangers. But Yu can't always get what Yu want
  15. If Suter is starting 30 games, I'd imagine they would be close to 77 wins, too. Because it means a lot went wrong.
  16. What the heck does this even mean? We missed with him? He came out of nowhere, and had a great half season. Nagging injuries caught up with him last year. What did they miss with? That makes no sense.
  17. Because they aren't going to go into the season with Yelich, Cain, Braun, Santana, Phillips and Broxton in the OF.
  18. It would take more than Domingo and Burnes! I might be crazy for saying this, but I'm just not thrilled with the idea of dealing away another huge prospect haul for a guy like Archer. I know he's controllable and cheap, and thus seemingly fits well into our now 4-5 window here where we are trying to go for it. But, I'm just not impressed enough with his numbers for TB to give up a package that would start with Domingo and Burnes (and then 1-2 other good prospects). I'm sure Stearns probably feels the same way, and has a price in his head of where the end would justify the means. I still think if Santana is dealt, it's to Cleveland. He's a perfect fit in that lineup, and they have depth in the rotation. If we have to give up Burnes and Santana for Archer, I'm on the fence. If we have to give up more, I'm leaning toward a hard no.
  19. I think that idea is bogus. Any prospect is attainable for the right price. If a team says a prospect is untouchable, they are just trying to drive up his cost. They are lying.
  20. Hope you caught some fish. Would it be Santana and Burnes alone for Archer? I think I'd consider that. But if Burnes is now considered the team's top prospect, he could theoretically be up with the big club soon. I know is was speculated that other teams might adjust their offers knowing that the Brewers are loaded in the OF, but it's disappointing that GMs are that stupid. If teams are going to lowball on Santana, I'd just hang onto him and sort it out in Spring Training. I figured they were high on Phillips. Unfortunately the logjam in the OF hurts his playing time
  21. Can't imagine anyone will grab him, but if someone does ... congrats I guess. I think he was clearly 4th on the depth chart, if not 5th behind Nottingham. It's too bad too, as I had high hopes for him going into last season. That injury in Spring Training really doomed him. Wow, if Bickford doesn't pull it together, that Will Smith trade looks pretty bad.
  22. I think I'd just rather hang on to Santana. Rodriguez is young and cheap, but he just had knee surgery and is out till at least May. Houck is a nice prospect, and you can't have too many pitching prospects. Swihart is pretty much waiver wire fodder at this point, although he does have multi-positional versatility that Stearns would probably like.
  23. Correct. We lose the third round pick, not the third pick. The way I understood it is now, if they were to sign a player like Cobb, Lynn or Moustakis, it would go down the line .... 4th rounder, 5th rounder and so on. I'm not sure if there is a limit on the number of draft picks you can lose, though.
  24. An after thought lottery ticket. He's nothing until he shows something. Looked absolutely lost last year in Appleton. I had big hopes for him, but after watching him struggle, I no longer consider him a prospect. Wouldn't be surprised to see him out of baseball in 2 years or less. In Lara's defense, both Harrison and Gatewood also looked incredibly lost during their first year in Appleton.
