  1. The offense is bad but Counsell needs to pull his starter when it’s obvious that he’s lost it. I think it's safe to say that today's game has been a combination of awful offense and questionable bullpen management. Suter was left in 2 batters too long and pulling Jeffress after one batter there is a head scratcher. Spots 6 through 9 in the lineup a combined 0-24 in this series. It would make me happy to not see a Pina or Arcia at bat again for a while... I'm to the point where I don't care how many ground balls Miller boots at SS.
  2. The Brewers have gotten a collective OPS of .677 from 2nd base this season, and the defense hasn't been that great either. If Hiura's defense is at least passable at this moment, he will be an upgrade at the position as I think he could produce at least something like a .725 OPS at the big league level. I'm not really worried that this would be rushing him too fast. He wouldn't have to play everyday- Villar, Miller, and Perez could all take some starts at 2nd base here and there. Also, this team has the best record in the NL, so in my opinion I'm not concerned about starting service time or anything like that. This franchise has been to the playoffs twice in the past 30 years and they are in a pretty good position to win this year.
  3. Peralta continues to amaze. Same goes for Aguilar. Always nice to get a W, but typical no show from the bottom of the lineup again. Spots 6 through 9 in the lineup combine to go 0-15. Villar has tumbled to a sub .700 OPS, again. Need to make some move(s) to upgrade C, 2B, or SS in the next month, IMO.
  4. I think this is a good spot to mention, again, that Santana has been AWFUL against LHP this year. In fact, it's what has ruined his season so far because he's been OK against RHP. His OPS against righties is .767, and against lefties it's .352. His only HRs have been against RHP. His career splits are pretty close, so he's never really been a guy who needed to be platooned. I'm not sure why he's struggling so much against LHP this year, but I don't think strictly platooning him against LHP makes any sense right now.
  5. I would agree that there are too many games where the Brewer's offense scores 2 or less runs. However, I don't think it's a boom or bust/consistency issue, it's just not a good offensive team- and hasn't been going back to last July. As has been mentioned, the main issue is the bottom half of the order. The bottom of the order hasn't just been below average, it's been flat out awful. It seems like all of the "boom" games are when the bottom half of the lineup actually contributes. Before yesterdays game, they showed some numbers on the Brewer's starting rotation over the last 10 games. They basically were 1st in every statistical category in the NL over those last 10 games. The Brewers went 6-4 in that stretch. When your starting rotation goes through a stretch of being the most dominant rotation in baseball like that, you should be going 8-2 or 9-1. The Brewers basically wasted it, and that's with Aguilar literally providing the only offense all game in one of the wins.
  6. I don't think I would do that, but it has me thinking about Realmuto... Do people think it's possible to get Realmuto without giving up Hiura, Burnes, or Peralta? Would something like Woodruff, Ray, and a 3rd lesser piece be enough? Adding Realmuto could really solidify this lineup for the rest of this season and the next couple, IMO.
  7. I don't think there's any reason to freak out, the Brewers have already addressed it. He could help the big league team this year out of the bullpen but still viewed as a starter long term. They want to keep his innings down but they also know he is probably ready and able to contribute at the big league level now. However, they don't necessarily need another starter in the rotation right now, and if you plugged him in anyways he would undoubtedly hit his innings limits by August. Plus there's the possibility that trotting him out in CO Springs every week could do more harm than good at this point. I like the idea. Getting him some exposure facing big league hitters will just help prepare him to start next season in the big league rotation.
  8. I'm definitely on board with some changes, but the options in AAA aren't that great either, to be honest. I thought we'd have all of this OF depth but Braun and Santana have struggled big time, and the depth at AAA (Broxton, Phillips) haven't done much either. Phillips showed some promise at the end of last season at the big league level, but he looked completely overmatched in his big league ABs this year and he has not really been hitting in Colorado Springs. Broxton has started to pick it up a bit of late, but we all know he is super streaky and a K machine. That said, I think Santana needs to go down so I wouldn't mind seeing Broxton come up for him. At C, I think it's time for Nottingham to come back up and get a chance at seeing the majority of the starts. Pina has been a black hole offensively and Kratz has tumbled back to earth after his hot start. Bethancourt's numbers look good but they are completely CO Springs driven. I'm not sure what the answer is at SS. Miller's 10 days in the minors is almost up and he's going to play some SS, like it or not. Sogard needs to go but Arcia also needs to go down to figure things out. Can Dylan Moore play SS? Release Sogard, send down Arcia, and bring up Miller/Moore? Miller, Moore, and Perez hold down SS as best they can for a month and then see if Arcia has figured things out or make a move for a SS at the deadline. I think they need to try something. You can't just keep trotting out the equivalent of 3 pitchers in your lineup everyday.
  9. There was an ESPN Insider article today on top prospects who could deliver right away on promotion. Hiura was listed which included his MLB ZiPS projection for the rest of this season which is .271/.325/.435 with 7 HRs. Not bad for a guy who hasn't even played professional baseball for a year, yet. He's pretty much untouchable, IMO, unless he's the main piece for someone like DeGrom. It would still be painful to even pull the trigger on that.
  10. These are exactly the type of moves I would like to see this year. One of these guys would be ideal for the rest of the season. Send Arcia down to AAA and see if he can figure it out before next season while also getting a much needed upgrade at the SS position for the rest of this season. All without giving up a significant prospect- I'm assuming.
  11. It will be really interesting to see what Machado brings, wherever he ends up. I am one that does not want to see any of Hiura, Burnes or Peralta traded unless it's for someone like DeGrom, and even then I'd have a hard time parting with Hiura. Although, Realmuto would be tempting if he could be had with a deal built around one of Burnes/Peralta. I'd be more interested in some temporary fixes for this season that shouldn't take our top prospects. Guys like Iglesias, Mercer, Lowrie, Ross, Gausman, etc. Another bullpen arm or two.
  12. Yeah right. I need to bad mouth him before every AB now..
  13. Hernan is hot right now.. Might as well ride him for a while. Can you start him at SS?
  14. Excited to watch another Peralta start next week! He definitely deserves another big league start. His numbers away from Co Springs are unbelievable: 0.84 ERA with 49 K's in 32 innings. Absolutely dominant!
  15. Huge series win! What a performance by the pitching outside Albers. Wow!
  16. I hope I'm wrong, but this is shaping up to be a classic Brewer's loss to the Cubs we've seen too many times. Great pitching, but no offense with plenty of chances with runners on but failing to come up with the key hit...
  17. To a tune of a .629 OPS this year and .713 for his career. We have a different definition of killing lefties. I'm not a huge bunting guy, but this was pretty much the perfect situation to bunt. Late innings, up just 1 run, runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs and the bottom of the order coming up. If there's ever a time to bunt, that was it.
  18. So who do you pitch the 7th, arm chair managers? I suppose it's hard to say to not really know Hader's availability. I think I might start with Williams to face Gimenez and then have Jennings ready for the top with Zobrist & Hayward. If they feel Hader is a full go- maybe JJ 7th, Hader 8th, and Knebel 9th? Either way, let's tack on some runs!
  19. It's way too early to give up on Arcia as the SS for the future, but he's completely lost with no confidence at the plate right now. He needs to go down to CS for an extended amount of time to see if he can figure some things out. I wonder if the staff has any faith in Perez or Villar at SS, because ideally you would bring Miller up to play SS against RHP and then have a RH bat to face lefties. Either way, a middle IF without Arcia is going to be poor defensively. Really unfortunate that both Saladino and Dubon are injured. Dylan Moore has hit all year, can he play SS at all?
  20. Yep. Also, there are a ton of Cub fans all over the state of Wisconsin that are going to these games at Miller Park, so I don't think restrictions on out of state ticket purchases does much of anything.
  21. Yep, there have always been a lot of Cubs fans at these games at Miller Park but now that they are good, I have never seen more arrogant, obnoxious fans. Of course, a lot of these "fans" have just come out of the woodwork the last few years and they're the most obnoxious ones. Also, a ton of the Cubs fans that go to these games are Wisconsinites. This state is loaded with Cub fans. Just go to a sporting goods store around the state, it's damn near 50-50 Brewers/Cubs gear.
  22. Not a smart decision going with Albers to face Rizzo, but again 2 freaking runs in 10 innings.
  23. Really made them work that inning! Santana cannot hit lefties.
