  1. The fact that we're arguing who is better between Villar and Perez just shows how awful the 2B situation is..
  2. This team is going to go from best record in the NL to trailing in the WC standings in two weeks. I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this franchise.
  3. You're not getting Realmuto without at least one of Hiura/Burnes/Peralta, probably would even need to do two of that trio.
  4. Assigning an intern to review history of all players in the organization and prospective trade targets wouldn't be the worst of ideas. Hindsight is 20/20, but they have a team of social media people who post pictures of dogs and players dancing. I personally think that stuff is idiotic, but if you are going to have these people on your payroll, this type of thing should be a priority over reenacting Dumb and Dumber scenes. Yea, it's pretty baffling that old tweets like these still come up. Every organization in pro sports should be scanning all of their players social media accounts for crap like this. Or how about the agents that are getting a big cut? Isn't this what they are paid to do as well?
  5. I really like a lot of these ideas. Assuming they don't get Machado, Dozier would be my number 1 target then. As everyone has mentioned, he's a notorious 2nd half player and I just think he fits exactly what this offense needs. I don't know if the Phillips trade is too much or not enough for him. I could live with it but I'm also a big Phillips fan and would love to have him as a late inning defensive replacement if we're lucky enough to make the playoffs. Would love to add someone like Ellis or Barnahrt to help shore up C, and those guys shouldn't cost much. It would be foolish for the Brewers to not make a move for one of those guys. I also would like to see another RP or two, like Soria. Your idea with the Tigers is interesting. Iglesias would bring a steady presence to SS but honestly Saladino has been pretty steady himself. Even since coming back from his injury, he has been fine. If you make a move for Dozier to play 2B, I think you could be OK at SS with Saladino and possibly Arcia earning his way back. Zimmerman is an interesting case, his numbers have really bounced back this year. It would really depend on what the Tigers would retain money wise. The other thing is where does he fit after this season? There will be a lot of guys competing for the rotation next year- if none of Woodruff, Peralta, Burnes, Ortiz are traded. I'm really not overly interested in Merrifeld or Deitrich. Realmuto would be amazing but he's going to cost you two of Hiura, Peralta, Burnes and then some.
  6. I was thinking about posting on this exact same topic. Counsell said earlier in the year he didn't want defined roles, but that's exactly what he's done. The bullpen was at it's best when Knebel was on the DL. Not that Knebel has been THAT bad, but since he's been back CC put all the relievers in defined roles. Hader only pitches when they are winning and almost always the 6th and 7th inning, even if the starter is rolling along through 5. Jeffress gets the 8th and Knebel the classic Closer role. The rest of the pen pitches when they are losing. It's all defined. You don't have to go to Hader in the 6th if the starter is rolling, ride the hot reliever for a few games or innings when they're dealing, Knebel doesn't have to get every save situation when he hasn't been sharp recently, etc.
  7. Now that the annual choke job has already started, I certainly hope they don't pay a premium for a rental- Machado. No sense in trading your top prospect pieces to chase a one game WC. Do not trade any of Peralta, Burnes, Woodruff, or Ortiz at this point. Keep all of them and hope at least one or two of them become 2/3 level starters at the Major League level. If you can get guys like Escobar, Happ, or Dozier without paying a premium, go for it.
  8. Yep, he's been good. Pass on Machado for me. Just not worth what he will cost for a rental. Especially when we may just playing be for a one game WC spot Dozier is the ideal move, IMO. Upgrade 2B. Saladino can handle SS and maybe Arcia figures it out. Not sure there is any answer for the blackhole that is C.
  9. At AAA in 2016, Arcia had a .599 OPS away from CO Springs- that is awful. Basically it comes down to whether you think Arcia can duplicate and possibly exceed last season's offensive numbers or whether he is like Alcides Escobar 2.0. If you feel he is more likely Escobar 2.0, you don't hesitate to include him in a Machado trade, IMO. He obviously would still have value, but there are a lot guys around who are good defensively but not good offensively. We already have 2 of them in Saladino and Dubon. I trust Stearns and Co's judgement on whether they think Arcia can turned it around or if he's expendable. Personally, I lean more towards questioning whether he'll ever be able to even duplicate last season's numbers, so I wouldn't be heartbroken if he's moved- but I can live with it either way.
  10. I like how he adds "Not confirmed" at the end, basically confirming he's just making crap up.
  11. I do like the idea of adding to the bullpen. Unless an unexpected deal happens for a DeGrom or Thor, the Brewers are not going to have a dominant rotation for the playoffs (assuming/hoping they make it). Maintaining a dominant bullpen will be needed, then. I'm all for adding pieces like Dyson- or Will Smith would be even better.
  12. Agreed. I still wouldn't be crazy about it, but I could live with it and won't deny I'd be excited about having Machado the rest of this season. I sure hope Stearns doesn't blink, though, and end up offering Burnes. In fact, if I was Stearns I would say the offer gets reduced as we creep closer to the deadline. An extra 2-3 weeks of Machado makes a significant difference. I'm guessing Machado is a Brewer before the end of the week.
  13. My issue isn't that CC didn't pitch Hader, it is moreso that he decided to pitch Zagurski 2 INNINGS in a one run game. I'll also say again, I question why he is even on the major league team in the first place. Everyone on this board questioned the move of calling him up when it was announced, and we were all right. The move to bring up Zagurski made no sense from the start, just a plain dumb move that cost the team. He'll be gone now, but it is frustrating sometimes when moves like this are made, where it is clear it is not putting the team in the best position to win games.
  14. I don't know what's more idiotic- Counsell bringing Zagurski back in for a 2nd inning after the lead was cut to 1, or the fact that they actually decided to call him up to the big leagues in the first place..
  15. Sanchez left a lot of pitches over the middle of the plate that inning and the Brewers did not make him pay.
  16. With Wilkerson starting and Braun not being able to hit anyways, I would've gone with Broxton over Braun to strengthen the D.
  17. When Cain and Yelich are back, it should just be a straight platoon in LF for Braun and Thames. Aguilar starts everyday at 1st.
  18. Michael Reed getting the call up to the Braves. He's put together a very impressive season between AA and AAA in the Braves' system so far this year. Still walking a ton but also actually getting hits with a little power as well. Good for him.
  19. Hmmm this doesn't coincide at all with Stearns' comments in Appleton. GM speak in July. Also, Happ probably would be the headliner of the rotation if he came to the Brewers, so Stearns wouldn't be wrong.
  20. FWIW, in Rosenthal's latest column on The Athletic he noted that the Brewers pursued Merrifield this past offseason, and have "expressed interest" in him again recently.
  21. Hiura is the least risky of all those gambles. Nottingham has never hit anywhere until CS this year and he's been about on par with Bethancourt. The odds of him outproducing Pina are long. Miller is a big swing and miss guy but at least he's proven to have power. Nottingham is a gamble but I thought in his brief time in Milwaukee earlier this season, he at least put together some solid ABs. Some better at bats than we've seen from Pina almost all season. I would take Nottingham over Bethancourt. Bethancourt's numbers are completely CO Springs driven- with a sub .700 OPS away from CO Springs. Nottingham's road .OPS is a decent .748 and still gets on base with a .358 OBP. He just hasn't shown any power away from Colorado.
