  1. First of all, Pelfrey is up, as he pitched five good innings a few days ago without getting a W. And Martinez and Milledge are definitely two of the top 10 OF prospects in baseball. And the Mets, of course, have the $$$ to give Ben a hefty extention, much like the two teams of LA, hence their inclusion. Nevertheless, I still think I would prefer the packages the LA teams could offer. Three top 50 pitching prospects from the Dodgers (even though their track record with pitchers is less than stellar) or the Angels, though I would prefer Figgins to Izturis and Adenhart to Shields. Truth be told, I've been enamored with Adenhart since we held the fifth pick in his draft. He's a true PITCHER, unlike our thrower we selected, or the thrower later selected by the Communists of Cincy.
  2. I said it this offseason and I'll say it again. There are three logical trading partners if we decide to move Sheets. The Dodgy Fellows, but we would require Kershaw/Elbert/Billingsley. The Angels, but I would want their band-aid (Figgins)/Wood or Adenhart/Weaver or Santana. And the Mets could always offer Milledge/Humber or Pelfrey/Martinez or Heilman. I would want A LOT if I were to trade Ben, but I'm not completely adverse. Just give me the top prospects from a top 5 system...that's all.
  3. I also had high hopes for the tall lefty, but I also realize he is barely three years removed from the draft. And I would definitely expect more from him than Manny Parra at the moment, though I have been a fan of Manny since Beloit.
  4. Ubaldo Jimenez??? Interesting nugget of an arm. D. Ford and Latin Cappy would suffice I would imagine.
  5. If we wouldn't have traded lil' Ben, I'd have suggested that swap. The way it is, perhaps we could get the Wood/Prior package for Nick Neugebauer/Chris Saenz???
  6. I would rather have my catching prospect compared to Pudge than Sandy Alomar. Also, as a hitter, isn't it better to have a smaller strike zone?
  7. 1. Gordon 2. Zimz 3. Pelfrey ($ is no object, I would hope) 4. Braun 5. Hochevar ($$$$$....$) 6. Upton...and leave him at short! 7. Maybin 8. Tulo (I'm a big dirtbag doubter...my dad went to the Beach) I was a big fan of the Iowan Trojan, but he has definitely stagnated.
  8. Unless, of course, you have your economics degree from Duke U., go by the same moniker as the ace of Cleveland, and have an affinity for hot tubs.
  9. Go ask Brian Shouse how much work a LOOGy gets on Yost's pitching staff.
  10. Just out of curiousity, how does everyone think the top 5-8 picks would have gone that year, if all things were done over? I would hypothesize that Gordon would be #1... Upton...there's a debate, as his numbers pale in comparison to his prep counterpart, Cam Maybin, though Cam needs to get his K vaccination quickly.
  11. Two years ago, Matty Wise was the top set-up man (BAA) in the NL, if I recall correctly. He has a freak accident and the next thing you know, he is an afterthought when speaking of the bullpen (or at least the "set up man" talk).
  12. And the final installment... with Yo at #10. Top 10 Prospects Nothing too exciting, but it is nice to see we have two of the top 11 prospects in baseball, according to a good source.
  13. Would Chad be amenable to being an eighth inning guy, however? I just don't see how someone who has been closing for a couple years with very good success would go back to being a set-up man...unless his name is Brad Lidge. I always thought Lidge was an old-time closer, in that he had no problem coming in around the 7th and going from there, whther he needed Wagner or not.
  14. If only popular opinion were enough to get trades done, we would see Randy Moss in Green and Gold...or in jailbird pinstripes, depending on your locale.
  15. Hmm...no more Salty Dog talk. But if he becomes Brew Crew property, we need a good nickname.
  16. Supply and demand would dictate that catching prospects would require a bit more than a failed D&F prospect and a waiver wire claim that was unused (Closser was unwanted).
  17. Yhency Brazoban would be a better closer trade target...or Jon Broxton. OH PLEASE JONNY BROXY!
  18. (cough) Dan Kolb (cough) And Cordero pitches at RFK... I think we could get Ryan Wagner a lot cheaper if we wanted to go that route.
  19. Please let me preface this speculation with the statement that I am a true Angel believer. I want to see the Grand Salome in Milwaukee ASAP. That said, it seems as if his defense is going to hinder him a bit and his rise may not be as meteoric as most would hope (ie, I'm thinking 3 years until we see him, at least). That said, there seems to be a catching prospect that can be had, who is ML-ready, and could probably be had for some of our excess. ATL trades The Salty One MIL trades Gross Zach Jack Rivera I would think it would take more, but it would solidify their lineup, and give them another quality starting arm. Thoughts? (edited subject for clarity -TC)
  20. Maybe he intends to package Nix with Clark, like the C-Lee deal last year, in hopes of procuring a better long-term player.
  21. What about the gent who was too good to be included in any deal for Sexson? A certain character named Gregory Miller? I know we have a bit of depth at AAA but I would imagine he's better than Zach Jack, at least in terms of his ceiling and he is just now getting back his luster. I was a fan of his from the Sexson trade rumors and while Hanrahan flamed out, and Edwin couldn't cut it outside of Vero Beach, Miller never really had any true problems outside of the injury bug. Furthermore, the Dodgy Fellows have the top lefty prospect in baseball, a certain Scotty E., and many other young pitching options, though the same could be said about our hallowed team.
  22. Maybe we then would package CV the Elder in a larger deal, with Gross to the Athletics for Kiko and the Douche.
  23. I have to agree with Hauser. There must be something in the water in LA because, despite the economic windfall of being associated with the fair and prosperopus city, both teams who hail from said dwelling refuse to part with any semblance of talent for proven commodities. That said, I would love to imagine a package where we could acquire Jon Broxton, but it would seem that he is the heir to Takashi's throne.
  24. I would actually argue that he would fill the much-needed "Cirillo-role" we in Brewerfan.net-dom are so eager to find. And their system is decimated by trades...and more trades. We have to have a match somewhere.
  25. While he may be past his peak, I have always compared him to Rickey Henderson and we all know Rickey will still be doing tryouts for the next million years...
