  1. Wouldn't be the worst thing for Burnes to just keep the bat on his shoulder right here. No double plays.
  2. Imagine that, getting hit by a pitch and just quietly taking your base. Huh.
  3. Pitches are based so much on finely tuned location I'm curious how much effect that 1 foot might have on placing pitches in the strike zone rather than just giving the batter 1 extra foot to time a fastball. It will effect locating breaking balls just as much if not more. Is it that easy for a pitcher to adjust to that?
  4. The other thing that irritates me is that baseball sitting this situation out until a brawl happens practically ensures that a brawl is going to happen, which is exactly what MLB pays lip service about "having no place in the game." You don't want beanball wars? Fine, neither does Counsell, it seems. I am absolutely fine with not engaging in tit for tat beanings, especially after I grew up watching the disgustingly sanctimonious thuggery of LaRussa's Cards. But you can't say this stuff can't continue in our game and then NOT step in when a team one-sidedly escalates the situation while the other does not. And you would think MLB certainly would offer a suspension or two after a player straight up admits in an interview that they threw at a player intentionally. But MLB is an administrative clown show, so of course this ends in blood. That'll be another banner day at the office for you, Manfred. Have to agree with all of this. Counsell has pretty much been as anti-retaliation as it gets in baseball, either that or the Brewers have mastered the unintentional intentional HBP to the point where it truly looks like there isn't intention behind it even to their own fans. LaRussa is such a tool as well, he was pulling his same old retaliation garbage in spring training of all things, his schtick is just so tired and obvious. He might as well be a robot.
  5. Continuing from yesterday's Contreras drama I wonder if something more comes of it today. I don't want to see Burnes get tossed out of the game, definitely don't want a suspension but it rubs me the wrong way how the Cubs chose to retaliate by throwing at a pitcher instead of a regular guy in the batting order. That's garbage in my view. Woody wasn't the only guy to hit Contreras, did they feel like with Yelich not being in the game that Woody was the only Brewers star worthy of being thrown at? That's kind of pathetic. Contreras has been hit a bunch, none of them had any feeling of purpose behind it. They seem to think Brewers pitchers shouldn't pitch inside, that's not how it works. If they're going to get worked up over it might as well make it worth our while at some point but it should depend on the game situation. Maybe it doesn't happen today and gets filed away for future consideration.
  6. He's also managing human beings, not a conglomeration of statistics on a page. He has to look these guys in the eye every day, form relationships with them. Cherry picking one line of criticism, the argument for using Hader the way he was used early on in his Brewers career makes a lot of sense on the surface but once he's established himself as an All-Star there's every reason not to operate in such a way that obstinately goes against how a player wishes or expects to be used. I think Josh Hader wants to be used as a traditional closer because that's how he will maximize his market value once he becomes a free agent and even through the arbitration process leading to free agency. The team can make that concession because his usage in that role is still extremely valuable even if they might prefer to use him in a slightly different way. The league persists in the use of the traditional closer so that's where we are. I don't think it's a flaw of Craig Counsell that he's using Hader in that role.
  7. Bumping this. Rizzo is the man. Yelich bats second with Rizzo 4th and a quality right handed bat between them. Alternate Wong and Cain at the top. Hiura becomes the DH and can hit third if he figures it out, which would be ideal. Otherwise we can find a quality right handed bat for the third outfield spot, 2B, or 3B. Trades are always a possibility too. Rizzo is a 3X GG winner too, which would be appealing to Stearns. He was in on Rendon who is a quality defender at third. I could see us making a play for Rizzo to pair with a roster of gold glovers in Cain, Yelich, possibly Bradley, and Wong as it is. It’s crazy to think how elite this defense could be if he was added to the roster. Rizzo is easily behind Bryant and Baez for me and I like Rizzo. But he's a few years older, plays the least valuable position and is about equal to Bryant with the bat, I think Bryant will be better going forward. That said, Bryant probably will command the bigger contract. Baez's OBP is awful but for the defense he provides at a premium position his offense is more than adequate and he's 3.5 years younger than Rizzo. It surprised me that Rizzo hasn't been an All Star since 2016. Aguilar made it in 2018. Which should tell us all we need to know about spending big money for a 32 going on 33 year old, non-MVP type 1st baseman. I think they're better off hoping Hiura figures it out and gets more comfortable at 1B over time or looking for bargains in the Thames/Aguilar mold. Yelich's future might be at 1B as well.
  8. I don't necessarily think Spectrum will do anything, that app is legitimate and I'd think it's part of the agreement between Bally Sports and Spectrum that their log-ins function for their apps. Where Spectrum can limit freeloaders is in how many simultaneous streams are allowed per account. It's generally a lower number, perhaps 3 or so streams (just throwing that number out there not sure what the actual number might be). That way you can't have your 37 closest friends all watching on your account all at once.
  9. That makes so much more sense, thank you for clarifying. I guess I'm just used to seeing the lamenting of guys we let go.
  10. I've gone from a being very skeptical to trying to temper my expectations for him. If anything he's proven that the horrible slump year and the habits that came with it is well in the past. I never expected his success would be this good this fast. I think the most important part for him is to keep an even temperament, maybe we shouldn't expect him to be this good but I just don't want to see him get in a funk again like he did in '19 especially after showing he's capable of being this good. I will take an effective middle of the order bat all day long but I guess if he wants to go bonkers all year long I'm all for that too.
  11. How has it already been determined they got it wrong with Jimmy Nelson? He's 3.1 innings into his first big league season since leaving Milwaukee. Is it simply that he's made the Dodgers 26 man roster? He also seems to be a relief pitcher now, he's not really in the mix to be a starter. I don't get it. I hope he succeeds but I'm not going to hold that against the Brewers 2 years and 3.1 total innings later. The Dodgers are also paying him less than $1 million per season, Jimmy's last contract with the Brewers was $3.7 million which is why he was non-tendered. Seems like it was a hard but good decision to me. It's just one of those things. Keeping the tally seems really miserly and unreasonable to me. Knebel, yeah, I'd like to have him. I felt that way before the Brewers decided to part ways with him. The fact it ended in a trade means nothing, they were letting him go. I think he could have helped this team, I wasn't as worried about his injury. I feel it a little more keenly now as I think we have some shaky guys in our bullpen. However, Boxberger so far looks like he's not a bad choice for the 7th inning role. If he continues pitching well the Brewers are paying him 1/10th the salary Knebel is making. I'd still rather have him than not but I can see where management feels like it was a decision worth making. I wonder if Jeffress is really such a bad option now out in free agency. Not sure what issue it is that "ruined his career" but I'd be in favor of kicking the tires on him if the price is right.
  12. My point was, oftentimes, a multiple walk day can indeed be a precursor to a decent run at the plate as you seemed to be suggesting. One walk and one intentional in an otherwise 0-3 day, not so much. I think we’d both like him to be more than futile at the plate, which he’s been so far. Anyways, great win and series victory. Go Crew! You're 100% right, I only first posted this because I thought he had 3 walks which would have been slightly more impressive but I was wrong. The time delay on my ATT TV app fooled me.
  13. First walk for Urías was an IBB to bring the pitcher to the plate. I know but Ponce de Leon was wild too which got him into trouble in the first place. That was more my thought on that.
  14. Urias benefits from Cardinals pitchers inability to throw a strike for a 3rd time. Can someone walk their way out of a hitting slump? I hope so. I take it back, box score briefly showed 3 walks but it's only 2 for Urias.
  15. Yardley to my surprise has managed to pitch 2 scoreless innings this season. I felt like he'd been garbage in all of them.
  16. Ground ball to pitcher, throws to 1st for one out, runner at 2nd ran to 3rd but runner on 3rd didn't move, runner from 2nd was tagged out.
  17. Sort of back to your earlier point, I wonder whether it was something that just flared up during this game, or if he has been playing through some discomfort recently and they’re taking the opportunity to try to get him rest for the remainder of the day because of the big early lead. I had been thinking of something like that, it could be a thing where it's been mild and it was a good time to take advantage of the lead to get a little rest. It could just as easily have happened as he was running the bases or swinging the bat. JBJ is also the better defender and with this lead that's a plus as well (assuming it's mild).
