  1. The inability to play a clean game on defense is pretty frustrating. It's a big part of what makes this team successful. got to be better than this.
  2. I can agree with this. It's really not that uncommon to give up a couple runs in the opening innings. I would say May did about as expected. If he could have pitched 3 innings of shutout ball he would have exceeded expectations. It also could have been worse. He's not a that great of a starting pitcher, expecting a couple earned runs allowed in a short start feels about right.
  3. Right, Yelich. The whole Yelich thing with this team... I like Yelich but the version we've gotten of him this season isn't my favorite. I've said this before but this is a microcosm of what it looks like to be a team that hands out big, long term contracts to stars. You have to play them when they're older and in decline. We're pretty fortunate we only have one of those guys on the roster. We're also fortunate that he appears to be in a good place right now with the bat.
  4. I don't think it's unreasonable but the fact it's either Bauers or Vaughn makes it a really tough call. I don't think it's a clear choice to just slap Vaughn into the lineup. If the matchup makes sense, then yes. Unfortunately the Padres just haven't deployed a LHP too often this series. Ray started game 1 and they went with Jake. That's not exactly odd because it was the first playoff game and Jake had been good during the season. Unless folks want to see Bauers in the OF but I'm fairly certain we won't unless it's an emergency or late game necessity due to pinch hitting type things.
  5. I, of course, understand. Vaughn is a defensive liability with no positional versatility and Bauers has had a great season and is left handed with the platoon advantage. Vaughn's pretty much a pinch hitter. Is what it is. I'm pretty frustrated with Mitchell, his at bats have been less than inspiring. Lara can replace him defensively, Vaughn can't and Lara is no Vaughn with the bat. It just comes down to Murph wanting to really save Vaughn for a perfect PH opportunity and that type of situation usually comes late in the game. Fans calling for Vaughn to bat for Ortiz in the early innings is asking for a thing that's never really going to happen. Then he's used faster than an ABS challenge by Contreras.
  6. Reading this thread, when Andrew Vaughn eventually gets an at bat or two I expect nothing but perfection. 5 run home runs and bases empty grand slams at minimum.
  7. I turned the game off after the 8th inning and turned on my PlayStation. I kept an eye on my phone for score updates, saw there was 1 out in the 9th with a man on and used my phone to tune back into the TV broadcast. So from the time Yeli stole 2nd on I was watching again lol. So I consider choosing to watch it on a tiny phone screen instead of my 65" tv to be the factor that helped the Brewers win. 😆
  8. Yeah, I was skeptical of attempting a 6 out save there. 4 out saves are much more common and even those have a little bit of uncertainty (it's baseball after all). I honestly think Miller did a heck of a job, he got 5 outs and nobody was really squaring him up if they made contact at all. The walks weren't great. Chourio is just that guy.
  9. I did a bit of googling and most domed stadiums have very similar ground rules as AmFam Field. The controversy surrounding that play is completely and unequivocally unwarranted. It's not like this came out of nowhere and nobody ever thought about how best to handle these types of plays.
  10. Yeah, it sure seems like many of the Padres runs have been assisted by poor Brewers defense and some wild pitches that allow runners to get into scoring position. They've gotten the hits to get those runs home but the Brewers have definitely not helped themselves from keeping preventable runs from scoring.
  11. NY Times free article about Chourio. Good read. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7661643/2026/10/05/jackson-chourio-brewers-lead-off/?unlocked_article_code=1.GVE.EtfN.7ldo-3GqpwDQ&source=emp_shared_article&smid=re-share-ta
  12. Chourio is so damn clutch. With apologies to Wild Bill because he hit a bomb last night but it would be nice to have some other guys join the clutch club and not rely solely on Jack Jack for everything. That said, what a moment. Chourio has officially arrived. He already has but he cemented it.
  13. What did Yelich do to you man? He flew out to RF. Weird huh? Can we move on?
  14. It seems pretty clear that MLB and the players are against it. They had the choice and seem pretty content with it. I suppose we'll see if that changes at some point in the future but I don't think it will. Unless the Yankees lose a world series because they burned all their challenges and a huge call goes against them. So there's hope?
  15. Exactly. What former managers are we celebrating anyway? I don't really recall any. None have accomplished anything. The only thing one manager has been able to do more than another former manager is achieve the best record amongst managers. Nobody really throws a parade for that. Harvey Kuenn is the only one that's made it to the world series and he lasted one more season after that before being replaced. The thing is, CC was set up to be a beloved former manager here someday but he drenched that in gasoline and set it on fire. Now I'm not sure he's getting an invite back any time soon (or ever) and probably is looking at a future where he's treated as an afterthought by Cubs fans as well.
  16. Well, balls and strikes are only one responsibility of the home plate umpire so I don't think they're ever going away. There's still HBP and catcher's interference calls, I don't think they'll meaningfully be able to stand much further away from the catcher than they do now. My main point is we are all baseball fans and have not once watched a game where the human element was removed. In watching games this season with the ABS in place it's actually impressed me how inconsequential most wrong ball or strike calls are. The Brewers have exhausted their challenges early several times and survived just fine. I just don't like the idea that suddenly after decades of watching human based strike zones some fans have wandered into the territory of zero tolerance for a missed call. This game is all about human error, allowing the umpires to be human right along with the players shouldn't be a dealbreaker. And as stated, there now exists a way to mitigate those bad calls. I think with the challenge system we can still enjoy the game we've always enjoyed and there's a means to get out of a truly bad call at a really bad moment if teams use their challenges wisely. Most moments where missed balls and strikes occur truly aren't that crucial to the end result.
  17. Managing until you're 80 isn't hard. Tell him, Wash. Ron Washington is still coaching at age 74 (for the Giants this season) so maybe he still has a chance to manage again.
  18. Mike Maddux is still the best on-field massage therapist in the game.
  19. I'm pretty definitively against going to full ABS. I'm good with the current system. Everyone loves to bag on the umpires, myself included, but for the most part they're really good at what they do. The teams now have a way to mitigate some incorrect calls. I think as fans we just overthink it all, especially because the televised broadcasts show us the box zone. Why have we suddenly become "we must have 100% accuracy" robots? Want to watch robots? I'm sure that might happen some day. In the meantime, while watching humans play I'm more than content to have human officials making most of the calls.
