  1. Why do people not see the value of a lock-down bullpen? This just means we wouldn't be forced to use a Jacob Barnes in a tie game or down by one.
  2. I'd argue that today's deal makes him the exact opposite of a bust. Picking him ultimately made the MLB team better, which is all you want out of a draft pick. Now, if you want to see a bust, go look at Clint Coulter's numbers. Bust was probably the wrong word to use. I mean just another first round guy that doesn't make it (with the Brewers).
  3. If Stearns doesn't see any starters as worth the price then I would 100% add to the bullpen. It shortens games for us. Yes, our starter may give up 4 runs in 5 innings but if you have a lock down bullpen and can keep them at 4 runs the rest of the way...that's extremely valuable. I 100% believe he adds a bat to this lineup.
  4. Oh no, our farm system is worse but our big league team is better. Shoot. In no way does trading Kodi mortgage the future of the club. Another first round bust, yes, but he is a high risk middle reliever with a funky delivery whose fastball velocity has dipped in recent years and has command issues. Yes he has a good slider but so do hundreds of other guys. Man, so many prospect huggers out there.
  5. Both Aguilar and Thames have struggled since the break. Thames needs to improve his approach, Aguilar needs to start hitting the pitches he was pounding with ease 3 weeks ago. Yeah when do we play the Reds?
  6. People will give you some BS about on base percentage but don't listen to them.
  7. Can we please pull the plug on Thames at leadoff? Why would we have Thames, Cain, Yelich as our top three when we could have Cain, Yelich, Aguilar?
  8. Tillman was awful last year. 7.84 ERA. He's even worse this year. 10.46. Unless you want someone for AAA depth, forget about it. You're right. I was looking at 2016.
  9. Orioles designated Tillman for assignment and he declined, making him a free agent. Yes, he has had a pretty awful year, but with our recent SP injuries I wonder if the Brewers make an offer. Wouldn't cost any prospect capital and it would be a super low cost move. Maybe he just needs to get out of the black hole in Baltimore. He is only 30 and had a decent year in the AL East last year... Thoughts?
  10. Damn. Our SP depth is taking a huge hit. Anderson Chacin Guerra Peralta Miley Then after that we have Woodruff and Wilkerson? Yikes. I wonder how set the Brewers are about keeping Burnes in the bullpen. These injuries may have to force their hand should another starter go down.
  11. Geez people ... he looks fine to me. Throwing it up there at 99, and the curve is humming. Doesn't matter if you are throwing 99 if you cant locate
  12. I wonder if this changes their deadline plans. You can't be putting Aaron Wilkerson out there every 5 days in a playoff race.
  13. I don't want them to stand pat, I want them to sell. Last year too. My criticism of Stearns is that he's too close to the Bucks model. Sort of rebuild, sort of not. So we're left with a good team, but a team with more holes than can be fixed by a trade deadline deal or two. COULD they win the WS this year? Sure. But very small odds. I rather build a more talented roster and have multiple years of realistic chances at winning it all. Not saying I'm right, or anyone here is wrong. Just stating what I want him to do. But...we are leading the wild card. All you have to do is make the playoffs and anything can happen. Look at the teams that have played in the world series recently. A lot of 86-92 win teams, which is what the Brewers are. We have shown we can beat the best of the best, its just a matter of getting hot at the end of the year.
  14. Maybe this isn't the right forum to write this, but the thing that bugs me the most, is after this recent swoon, a lot of people want Stearns to "stand pat" because we can't win the World Series. I see a lot of those takes over the last couple weeks. We are leading the wild card race and people don't want Stearns to add to this team? Can we only be buyers and add to this team if we are 20 games over .500 and in first place at the all-star game? Geez... Such a defeatist mentality.
  15. Milwaukee doesn't have the luxury of being able to make short sighted moves. For a small market team you need to play the long game. I am glad he didn't mortgage the future for 2 months of Machado. There are other cheaper options out there that will still provide a huge lift for this team. The best thing about having some of the worst 2B and SS production in baseball, is that any improvement will be a dramatic improvement. If you want to criticize his moves, that's fine, but wait until after July 31st. Still plenty of time to make moves and improve this team...and oh yeah, we are still leading the wild card race so everyone just chill.
