  1. Still with Archer? I feel like people on this board put him in the same group as the Scherzer's, DeGrom's, or Sale's of the league. You really want to give up multiple top 10 prospects for a declining 30 year old pitcher? DeGrom or Syndegaard? Sure...but please no Archer.
  2. I wonder with Phillips being traded if they will bump Ray up to AAA
  3. I know the sample size isn't there but Keon has cut down his K% from 38% to 28% this year and has increased his BB% from 9% to 17%...plus his defense is incredible.
  4. Wow. Rickie Weeks was worth -30 DRS at second base in 2012. Yeah, I think maybe Shaw will be fine.
  5. Phillips isn't the top tier prospect he was when he came over from the Astros. He showed out well last year but has struggled mightily in AAA and MLB this year and there is no chance he was going to start for the Brewers with Cain, Yelich, Braun, Thames ahead of him. Capitalizing on that value and getting an impact bat into our starting lineup is worth it.
  6. I don't know that this is a problem. Villar is hitting over .300 against LHP. Shaw shouldn't be playing against lefties right now and Moustakas doesn't exactly have earth shattering numbers against them either. Against LHP Cain (CF) Yelich (LF) Braun (1B) Aguilar (3B) Santana (RF) <--- come September Villar (2B) Pina © Arcia (SS) Against RHP Cain (CF) Yelich (RF) Moustakas (3B) Shaw (2B) Braun (LF) Thames (1B) Pina © Arcia (SS) That leaves you a crazy good/balanced bench on either day with (against LH): Moustakas, Shaw, Thames, Saladino or Perez, Kratz or (Against RH): Aguilar, Santana, Villar, Saladino or Perez, Kratz Those are both very good offensive lineups with one defensive question mark (Aguilar at 3rd and Shaw at 2nd) ... Yeah you're right. Aguilar doesn't match up well against RHP - .288/.360/.603 with 20 HRs MM has a .707 OPS against lefties. Thats much better than Shaw's .533 I see it like this: RHP Thames - RF Cain - CF Yelich - LF Aguilar - 1B Shaw - 2B Moose - 3B Pina - C Arcia - SS LHP Cain - CF Yelich - RF Aguilar - 1B Braun - LF Moose - 3B Villar - 2B Pina - C Arcia - SS
  7. But MM isn't a prototypical lefty power hitter because he doesn't strike out very often - only 15%, and he actually hits lefties pretty well. You also can't just look at Moustakas in a vacuum. Shaw & Moustakas is better than Shaw & Perez, Miller, etc...
  8. Ohhh yeah. I can’t even imagine what’s coming next Stearn’s has us all discombobulated.
  9. Shaw will be fine fielding and throwing from 2B. The only thing that worries me is his ability to turn a double play. That takes a lot of practice to get that footwork down.
  10. EVERYONE REST EASY. Sogard is back in the organization.
  11. Looks like its down to Schoop and Dozier at 2B...unless of course Stearns is just going to call up Hiura straight from AA.
  12. Watch Stearns just blow us all away and call up Keston Hiura. I mean, Juan Soto skipped AAA...
  13. From Ken Rosenthal: #DBacks close to acquiring #Twins’ Eduardo Escobar, sources tell me and @DanHayesMLB.\ There goes one of our options...
  14. Yelich is 0-2. This is all Bryce Harper's fault. He took all his mojo yesterday.
  15. Go get Schoop. He had a tremendous year last year and is really picking it up lately with an OPS over 1.000 in July.
  16. Lopez was optioned to make room for Arcia
  17. I would 100% rather have Saladino at 2B or as a backup infielder instead of Miller/Perez. Moving Saladino would make no sense.
  18. Ah. So we will have our very own Bobby Bonilla. Right, he is relevantly on the books through 2020 though. $4 million buyout and the small amounts of deferred salary aren't really going to impact anything. I'm moreso referring to those big $20 million numbers. Oh well thats not bad. I wasn't aware of the buyout. Can all but guarantee they will buy him out.
  19. Unfortunately, Braun is on the books through the 2021 season.
  20. Counsell has said they have no plans moving him into the rotation...but who knows.
  21. Soria is not a "lights out" reliever. He's a 34 year old having a good season, coming off decent but not great seasons in 2016 and 2017. This is a disappointing end to the Brewers career of a former 1st round pick (and 12th overall). He has been elite since he altered his delivery and begun throwing the slider more. From BP: "In 23 appearances since he discovered that new delivery, Soria is now up to 22 1/3 innings, 89 batters faced, 29 strikeouts, and a 0.81 ERA. He’s posting the best cFIP he’s had since he was an elite closer in 2009, and his current DRA- would be his best ever. Indeed, at age 34, Soria is pitching like his 24-year-old self, and has been one of the dozen best relievers in baseball."
  22. Soria is not a "lights out" reliever. He's a 34 year old having a good season, coming off decent but not great seasons in 2016 and 2017. This is a disappointing end to the Brewers career of a former 1st round pick (and 12th overall). Soria was arguably the best closer in baseball at his peak with the Royals, and across the last two seasons the ONLY relievers (40+ IP) with a better FIP are Roberto Osuna, Craig Kimbrel, and Kenley Jansen. He changed his release point and has thrown the slider more. "In 23 appearances since he discovered that new delivery, Soria is now up to 22 1/3 innings, 89 batters faced, 29 strikeouts, and a 0.81 ERA.
