  1. There was a time, not too long ago, after a particularly miserable offensive performance in September from an otherwise strong club, that I mused out loud something along the lines of, "well, at least the brass is getting a good long look at who doesn't belong on the postseason roster." Then we all got treated to a heaping scoop of Jesse Winker in a playoff series the Brewers would ultimately lose. So I am making it very clear that I have absolutely no intention of saying any such thing this year, and will be keeping my big mouth shut.
  2. I get Frelick is still maybe balky, Yelich has a flare up, and Contreras needs to DH some this month because he’s going to be behind the plate the whole way in October. Fine, fine. But did Turang have to be out today, too? All four out is just brutal.
  3. Hate to take the bat out of the lineup but an old school guy like Murph has to be thinking about sitting Collins a game for how he played that—not smart.
  4. Durbin didn’t get that run home from third, so get ready for another week of Siegler.
  5. Yeah, this would be a really good time to find Rasul Douglas 2.0 on somebody's practice squad.
  6. Effective relief work tonight, boys. We should just take a day off before every game, that seems to do the trick.
  7. So much for that promising start. Buckle up. Three righties on tap, then the big boys, so this should be interesting.
  8. I'd assume that is the case. Koenig has been a bit shaky, but hopefully the off day did some good. Also have Zastryzny back there, I'd assume.
  9. Yeah, just don't look at his glove work at third this year. Sure, under 50 innings, but considering how bad it's been, you figure the org only sees him as the proverbial "break glass in case of emergency" option.
  10. Siggy, my dude, c'mon man. We're trying to will a 40 year old starter through 6 innings here. Get with the program.
  11. Alright, got out of it. Another inning from Q would be nice, especially after getting through the heart of the order.
  12. Ooof. I’ve been trying to psychologically compensate for my innate Brewers fan pessimism as hard as possible after years of being conditioned for letdowns. No other team in franchise history has been this good this late, and I was ready to fully let my guard down. But Miller toast? Megill rehabbing? Chourio and Yelich both balky at best? 4 out of 5 starting pitchers barely scraping 5 innings an appearance at best while the bullpen looks like an infantry deployment at Stalingrad? That object falling from the sky is starting to look an awful lot like the other shoe dropping.
  13. Bad home plate umpiring here, but it doesn’t change the fact that this bullpen is gassed and now down two important arms. Brain trust has to go to the drawing board and figure out how to get outs for two more months.
  14. I know MLB wants holiday games, but some teams got the day off. Did Milwaukee really have to be one of the teams going today at the end of an absolutely brutal stretch? The bizarre mid-series day off tomorrow almost feels like a middle finger. Just start this thing on the Tuesday.
  15. Yeah I think it’ll be a good afternoon for errands after all—and if I come back to a win, it will be a lovely surprise. But I’ll leave the house thinking this: as someone who’s done a lot of teaching and a fair bit of coaching and parenting, this is what I like to call a “your crap still stinks” day. Doesn’t do anything good for your blood pressure, but it does wonders for your ability to remind your pupils that if they are going to get where we all want to go, it’s going to still take a lot more focus and intelligence than they showed today.
  16. Well hopefully Nance doesn’t come back out next inning, because he is absolutely on point. It wasn’t like Vaughn and Collins missed any meatballs—they didn’t see any.
  17. I have errands I need to run, but I can’t tear myself away from the horror show.
