  1. I get that you’re saying you’d take that gamble, but, I’d say “gamble” implies it’s at least a little debatable. 😉 I’d love for him to be “the guy” who gets hot randomly and drives us through the postseason (because somebody is going to have to be that guy), but I don’t know what my confidence level is that he’s him at this point.
  2. Man, it just sucks. And I’m not even upset at anyone’s decision-making throughout this process. The team thought Bakh was on the mend and kept bringing him back (seems like they had sound medical reasons to do this) and the best pass-blocking LT is useful for a title run AND for breaking in your new franchise QB. And if you’re Bakh, you’re not turning down that money, especially not when you’re still dominant (at least not when you can actually take the field—and that’s the wildest part of all this, Bakh has been very good whenever he suited up). It’s just a shame.
  3. Did Donaldson just get a hit that stayed in the park? Go buy a lottery ticket.
  4. Salvatore, my guy. You’re being a real Fredo right now. I need a Michael—it’s almost playoff time.
  5. One would hope. Or throw position players. Whatever it takes.
  6. One could certainly do a lot worse. As long as you only need him to be a 4/5 and don’t mind him missing a quarter to a third of the year, he’s a solid contributor.
  7. I love getting some offense here, but going to extras would be pretty much worst-case scenario. Let’s take this thing one way or another in regulation, boys.
  8. Maybe we’re getting the dry spell out now?
  9. Feel bad for him (oh wait, nah—he’s about to get the bag). But at any rate, glad it isn’t my circus anymore. We have enough on our hands putting out clubhouse fires after the Donaldson addition.
  10. Big Woo with the “nobody believes in us” angle. I love it—playoff mindset engaged. Have to have the chip on your shoulder, circle the wagons, all those old chestnuts.
  11. Ok. Set the rotation, keep everybody healthy, and hope we get some hot sticks.
  12. Braves are down late. Think Braves fans are ticked they have to watch Brad Hand and his 5+ ERA on the mound here? This is just what you do, especially before the playoffs. Keep your powder dry.
  13. Then we’re not really in much of a disagreement, then. I would still be quite confident, but po’d that it got to that point. What it all comes down to for me is a few guys getting confident in October. Just two or three guys feeling it (looks like we have Contreras, so that’s one) can carry an offense. It happens every year. You just have to hope it happens to your guys, that’s it.
  14. I agree, they should have this thing done before the weekend. But let’s get down to brass tacks: let’s say the Cards sweep. Are you calling a Cubs sweep at that point?
  15. Defense only starts mattering once you have a late lead? I mean, look, I wish the offense was a juggernaut, but it isn’t, and isn’t going to be even if we give up on the defensive emphasis. There’s more than one way to build a winner.
  16. Yeah, I mean, if we’re at the point where we expect going into a 3-game home set needing one win to clinch is an insurmountable psychological barrier, then why even show up for the playoff series? Elimination games are WAY more nerve-wracking than that. Let’s keep some perspective here.
  17. I don’t mean to say they’ve been bad. Again, complementary football is letting them down. But look at what the Saints can do on defense. They’re a top-5, dominant unit. We’re not that. And for all the resources we’ve dumped into that side, there really isn’t any excuse not to be. That’s all I meant.
  18. I mean, we draft and draft and draft on defense and always talk ourselves into the idea we can be elite. The saints are what we should look like, and we’re not even close. It is a stark difference.
  19. This offensive line is a concern. The offense is going to struggle, especially with all these injuries.
  20. A +90 run differential over 32 games will certainly play. And it is head and shoulders over the next-best Orioles and Twins(!) who are in the +50s range—quite a run to be on. But have we peaked too soon?
  21. Reporting from MLB.com indicates it is the dreaded “hamstring tightness,” though there is optimism he could play tomorrow.
  22. Just phenomenal work all around. What an interview, and Art but Sports is always solid
