He has by far his most appearances at 4th, so the other lineup spot appearances are very low sample sizes, but you are right. His worst OPS by a wide margin is when he’s 4th. If I had to guess, the thinking by CC is that he doesn’t hit into a lot of double-plays and he doesn’t K much, either. That batted ball profile could, over time, play better in run-producing situations than guys who have been striking out there a lot (anecdotally, I’d point to Adames and Tellez as major culprits on this front, but I’m too lazy to check the stat page to confirm). -

I was surprised to not see Turang noted as a defensive standout in this write-up (the only mention he gets is as part of a “promising young trio” of outfielders—oops, Fangraphs). His case would seem to fit the article’s narrative perfectly: the Brewers have gone all-in on run prevention to the point of sacrificing hitting ability in the process. Turang is the poster-boy for this strategy thus far.

At this rate, I'm not sure it will ever happen, but it would be really interesting to see what MLF could cook up with Watson, Doubs, Musgrave, and Jones all on the field simultaneously. I guess we'll have to content ourselves with only 2 or 3 out of 4 on any given game day. Kind of a shame, really.
