  1. It would be great if Burnes could come back to 2018 lights out form. He's still a wildcard who if he can get together adds another great bullpen arm.
  2. Don't let the Cards end up with Aranado. If they do drop the Brewers another notch.
  3. Last year the Brewers had a 99 ERA- & won 89 games. The Reds had a 93 ERA- & won 75 games. The Reds ERA was 6% better, yet the Brewers won 19% more games. Pitching is almost half the game, but it ain't the whole thing. Also, pitching tends to be more volatile because pitchers get hurt more, making it naturally less trustworthy as a whole. Last year our #2 starter to open the season was Freddy Peralta. He ended up with 35 IP over 8 starts with a 7.07 ERA in the rotation. The Brewers still won 89 games. Here are the two teams position groups with their 2020 ZIPS projected OPS+... MKE C: Narvaez (106) Pina (78) CIN C: Banhart (89) Casali (77) MKE 1B: Votto (114) CIN 1B: Smoak (106) MKE 2B: Hiura (115) CIN 2B: Moose (118) MKE SS: Urias (95) Arcia (75) CIN SS: Galvis (80) MKE 3B: Gyorko (98) Sogard (85) CIN 3B: Suarez (122) MKE CF: Cain (92) CIN CF: Senzel (97) Akiyama (98) MKE COF: Yelich (149) Garcia (107) Braun (106) CIN COF: Castellanos (125) Winker (112) Aquino (96) Looks like we have better projections at C & COF, while the Reds have a better projection at 3B. Most of the other spots are pretty even. Good info. Thank you. I agree lineups look close but the rotation is where I think the reds have clear advantage. Bullpen too.
  4. Well said. Obviously nobody knows how things are going to play out but they have done what it takes to put themselves in a good spot. The lineup should rake in that park and they have a very nice rotation along with solid closer. Cardinals lineup appears to be weaker and Cubs have done nothing and lost their manager. In my opinion Brewers with just a slight uptick in investment would have been the clear favorites. I respect Counsell and what he can do but a few additional horses would have been huge.
  5. Can you explain how the lineup is better? Urias already hurt so we may be seeing plenty of Arcia again. Not criticizing just asking how.
  6. They are a mid market team. Like many who have spent money this season.
  7. Can someone remind me who is the Brewers number 2 starter?
  8. This is so over the top. Must be really amazing to be a Reds fan this year. They won the Central in January. Makes me wonder why they didn't "decide" to win it for the last six years instead of averaging 69 wins a season. And yeah, I'm sure the Cubs and Brewers are actively taking a year off from winning. I bet that's exactly the conversation going on behind closed doors. Anyone who says the Brewers and Cubs have sat down and thought in order to win it all this year we have to do x and look at their off season and think mission accomplished is too deep into fandom to see reality. Neither team is better than when the year ended. The Reds clearly are. I am brewers fan but I'm not buying the trust the process nonsense. I trust pitching. They still don't have any.
  9. Reds are clear favorites to win division to me. Things happen and they obviously have to do it on the field but they have the pieces. They are striking just as the Brewers and Cubs have decided to take a year off from trying to win big. Good for their fans. It feels like it's been forever since they have been good but they have such a rich history. Another mid market team investing in the product the fans pay to see. Interesting concept.
  10. Source for your info please? I'm seeing about 40 million for the Twins... https://www.twincities.com/2016/02/12/local-tv-deal-doesnt-hamper-twins-payroll-team-president-says/ ...versus about 21 million for the Brewers... https://www.mlb.com/news/royals-close-to-new-tv-deal-with-fox-sports-kc Or do you think those figures are basically the same? 20 million bucks is not a ton of money in a billion dollar sport but if you are saying the extra 750k in attendance doesn't close that gap so be it. Bottom line is they could have done that deal and unless Donaldson hates Milwaukee they chose not to. It's not because they can't afford it.
  11. Huge overpay.... even if he is somewhat above avg.... Even if he just plays to his career average it would be anything but an overpay This is right on. There will likely be a dh in the NL by the time this deal is done so he could just rake.
  12. Nice that the Twins can afford a stud on a fair price tag. They drew 2.2 million last year. Crew drew 2.9 million. Same cable deal basically. Mark A must be socking it away for a rainy day. Oh well who cares about winning. In this market Packers are back and Bucks look to be all in. Mediocrity will not be rewarded.
  13. The draft picks are a pretty big deal. They have proven to be pretty good at the draft and two years without those four picks are pretty big even though they were going to be late in the round.
  14. This pick up is potentially a decent one. That said it could be a disaster. Go along with most of the moves they have made. It's disappointing they aren't acting like a team a piece or two away from making a run at it but it is what it is. Looking like a third place finish is in the cards if all goes well.
  15. This pick up is potentially a decent one. That said it could be a disaster. Go along with most of the moves they have made. 16. I'm not opposed to Seager. I just want to see if I can get some good value in the deal - and I view value as something akin to: Brewers get: 3B Kyle Seager LHP Justus Sheffield RHP Justin Dunn Mariners get: SS Orlando Arcia OF Tristan Lutz This would be a steal. Don't think Lutz has a ton of value at this point.
  17. Lomo doesn't have a track record of being the best clubhouse guy. It's like the brewers are forgetting what made them special. Thames for Lomo is a step back in terms of personality. Maybe he never makes it to Miller Park. Hope this is the case.
  18. At the end of the day I prefer to deal Hader to the Dodgers. I say use them and the Yankees against each other to drive up the price but Dodgers have better pieces in my opinion.
  19. It is rare indeed that a guy is so bad that you banish him from the roster only to bring him back a year later and pay him more. He may have had a good year but it is hard to be excited when that tape of 2018 flashes in my head. The dude was one of the worst players in baseball in 2018. I could have found better ways to spend that 5 million.
  20. This offseason hasn't been flashy but still productive. If Smoak does what he does but at Miller Park he will be fine. The key to me is unlocking what Urias can do with the bat. Him and Hiura excite me. Add Garcia as 4th outfielder instead of Gamel etc the offense could be better. Would love a trade to get Seger to play third base because Sogard is definitely not the answer. Add another starter and they should be good to go.
  21. Count me in on Betances as long as the deal gives us an option on year two. I love him. Makes Hader slightly more available also.
  22. Bargain bin for spring training fine. What I don't understand is why Thames was shown the door still. Rework his deal and work him and Braun at first. Garcia plays the outfield against lefties. Makes sense to me.
  23. Reds starters 2019: 4.12 ERA (92 ERA-) Brewers starters 2019: 4.40 ERA (99 ERA-) Reds wins 2019: 75 Brewers wins 2019: 89 Somehow Stearns & company won 14 more games than the Reds last year even though their rotation was 7% worse by ERA. I'd say the bad look is trying to find the negative in every transaction Stearns & company do or don't make when they clearly know more than we do & have the track record of success to prove it. Disagree but do you. Anyone arguing that the Brewers rotation as it stands today is looking better than the Reds should switch to football takes.
  24. The Reds rotation is looking deep and impressive. A four game against Castillo Bauer Grey and Miley is trouble. Brewers rotation is still a mess if u ask me. Bad look by Stearns.
  25. On the surface this deal appears reasonable and one the brewers should have been on. It seems that people tend to think deals like this will not age well which is fair. That said given where the brewers are they have to do deals along these lines to get where they want to go. The cain deal is by far dicer and so far is right on track to be a disaster two years from now. It is what it is. When you can't develop pitching you have to buy it. Mad bum or Anderson give me mad bum all day.
