  1. Cards needing to pull Wacha due to an apparent injury. They do have an off day tomorrow so I'm not sure about what type of effects they'll have to deal with in their series vs the Cubs, but here is a look at how their bullpen situation is coming into today
  2. The only normal starter the Cards have in their line up today is Edman. The rest if bench/september call ups. The dbacks line up is similar, but they have a couple of regular starters in there.
  3. I fell asleep on the couch watching around the 8th inning. I woke up at about 1:30am and it was the 14th inning. Watched one more and then got in bed. Happy to see it went 19 inning and the Cardinals lost.
  4. No one is claiming that Galvis, Iglesias, Mercer, etc are large upgrades of Arcia, but they do raise the floor. Arcia has been one of if not the worst every day player in the big leagues over the past 2 years. I'm not saying they need to non-tender him, but they need to make an effort to make a marginal upgrade. Iglesias was a minor league contract last year. Mercer and Galvis got about $5mm. None of these guys will be expensive.
  5. I'm glad the Cubs lost tonight. It allows the brewers to go straight into celebration mode tomorrow night if they win.
  6. So the Phillies are officially eliminated. I know they dealt with a couple of major season ending injuries to Mccutchen and Robertson, but damn that has to be a disappointing season for that team. Teetering around .500 and eliminated with 6 games to play.
  7. Nah. If the Brewers have clinched a playoff spot I think 162 is going to be a Nelson, Faria, Burnes, Williams, etc special.
  8. I bought tickets in 222. Was the best section they offered me in either Loge or Club. I didn't bother with tie breaker tickets. Just went with WC.
  9. It makes the most sense and it's what I was fearing. Daniel Hudson and Doolittle are the only guys who i'd even consider throwing in a 1 game playoff.
  10. Stache made a compelling argument for Yelich. I've had many of the same thoughts as well, especially around WPA and Bellinger having a good, but not great second half. Ultimately, I think the injury doomed Yelich's chances. If he was even just productive down the stretch and the Brewers made this run with him healthy I think there's a huge chance the narrative flipped back to Yelich. I think Yelich is a clear cut number two and Rendon isn't particularly close. Bellinger has had a great season and I wont be upset when he wins.
  11. The Reds line up is in rough shape right now outside of Suarez. They have a 74 wRC+ as a team in September. Hopefully the Brewers pitching continues doing what they've been doing and the offense can scrape together a couple of runs for a win.
  12. Hey, we might get some help from the Marlins two days in a row. Alfaro just hit a grand slam off Matz. The Marlins are up 6-0 in the 6th. Not that I'm overly worried about the Mets. Just helps a little if they shoot themselves in the foot.
  13. The way the Nats have it currently lined up (assuming they play it straight with the rotation ie normal rest) they really have their choice of Strasburg, Scherzer (assuming they don't need tow in game 162), or Sanchez. Maybe 2 of them will see innings in the WC game given how bad their bullpen has been.
  14. A month or so ago I was thinking there was a possibility the mutual option for Moose actually is exercised by both sides. I still think it's possible, but there is minimal risk for Moose to decline and moderate upside. If the Brewers could re-sign him for a slightly lower AAV over 2 years that would make sense. Grandal will certainly test the market. I'm not certain he'll get 3 guaranteed years, but 2 years around $36 makes some sense. I'm not sure what the Brewers appetite will be to commit that to him, but he's worth it. He was worth it last season too on a 3 year deal at $18 AAV. I want both back, but I'm not counting on both. I'd guess Grandal gets a better offer elsewhere and Moustakas re-signs with the Brewers.
  15. Disagree. This guy just tapping into his potential and just entering his prime, agree with Nate82, in that it won’t be prohibitive, prospects wise to get a deal done. But also think a deal doesn’t necessarily have to include Turang. Bell > Ray & Lutz & Rasmussen & Henry & lottery. Sure that all may be true in a vacuum, but what's the opportunity cost? Roster construction and asset management isn't just about trading player(s) x for player(s) y. Trading your best prospect chips for a readily available skillset is horrible strategy. I'm also not even in love with the player. I know he's young, but the only two season he showed palatable power numbers for a first baseman just so happen to coincide with the juiced ball years of 2017 and 2019. Just a pass all around on the player and on the strategy behind it.
  16. The bulk of his production has come in mop up/low leverage duty, but he's been perfectly serviceable in that role. I would guess he survives the 40 man roster through the winter and gets a chance to win a spot in spring training. Looks like he might still have 2 options left too so no reason he couldn't wind up on the shuttle squad at worst next season. He's almost certainly going to be on the WC roster and might be on a the NLDS roster should they get there.
  17. No. Just flat out no. There's no reason to invest significant trade capital in a first baseman. First baseman are freely available on the free agent market for reasonable prices. Look at the best run teams in baseball. How many have invested heavily at first base? Rays? nope. Yankees? Nope. Astros? Nope. Dodgers? Nope.
  18. I don't know much about him. The offensive numbers are good. He's more of a utility guy that an every day short stop based on his defensive metrics at SS though. Overall I think the Brewers need to add a SS with a higher floor than Arcia. His hitting is just unacceptable when you can add a guy like Mercer, Galvis or Iglesias on a small deal. That doesn't mean you need to non-tender Arcia. He still has an option left and I can't imagine his arbitration salary is much more than like $1.5mm.
  19. The Cardinals didn't celebrate clinching a playoff spot today. Instead they're waiting to clinch the division. You know who waited to celebrate until they clinched the division in 2018? That's right, the Cubs. they're still waiting. Here's to a 2019 NLC Division Championship for the Brewers!!!
  20. Jonathon Taylor had cramps in Madison yesterday and it looked like Gary had them today in the Packer game. It has been brutally muggy in Wisconsin the last couple of weeks, I have to imagine it wasn't too comfortable inside Miller Park. It's possible it was more about that than Woody struggling coming off the injury. He didn't specifically attribute it to the playing conditions in the short clip Rosiak posted on twitter, but i suppose that could have been part of it.
  21. Bumping this old topic... It's looking like the Brewers will end up in the WC game. Question might be whether it's more important for them to have it at home or if it's more important to line up the pitching (hopefully they can do both) If they played it absolutely straight Lyles would be on turn with an extra day of rest due to an off day on 9/30. Honestly, he might be who you want getting the ball anyway. He did have his worst start as a brewer against the Nats on 8/17. I still think I would feel good about him going 1x through the order vs the Nats to start the game. Woodruff said today that he was feeling fatigued during his start. would it be the worst thing in the world to just rest him the rest of the way hoping to get 2 or 3 IP out of him in the WC game? Gio is already on turn with Woodruff so they wouldn't need to find a starter for that regular season game anyway. Houser is probably another guy you would want available out of the pen for that WC game. If game 162 isn't a must win for a playoff spot maybe they hold him back to be available for the WC game as well. It will be interesting to see how the Brewers play this out. I think if they win 2/3 against the Reds that will give them a little more freedom to play with the pitching staff to get that ideal group of out getters. I think I would prefer something along the lines of 1-4 Lyles and woodruff, 2 IP Suter, 1 Pomeranz, 2 Hader
  22. I found it odd that the crowd today was much better than the crowd on Saturday night. I guess a closer game helps those things, but I would think a Saturday crowd would be a little more boozed up than a Sunday crowd and would lead to more excitement. anyway. I hope that's not the final home game of the season.
  23. Welp, cards up 1-0 early. Edman triple and Goldy rbi groundout. that edman kid...
  24. Heading to the final two games of this series. Hopefully the crowd is into it on every pitch. Hoping for another runaway win for the Brewers tonight.
