  1. I want nothing to do with Hamels. 6.41 DRA If they feel the need to obtain a starter Happ would be my preference. Ross would be ok too. I think they're more likely to roll with the depth they have at SP and hope Guerra, Chacin, Anderson, Davies, Nelson, Burnes, Peralta, Woodruff, etc are enough to get them effective innings the rest of the way.
  2. I agree, I think anything positive from Nelson this year is a bonus. I'm not expecting for him to contribute much value.
  3. I would do that Realmuto trade for sure, but I don't think it's enough from the Brewers side and I don't know how motivated the Marlins are to trade him. I'm torn on Huira. I like rooting for him, but he very well may need TJ surgery and that would likely delay his ascension to the bigs. Additionally, the DH isn't going to come to the NL quickly enough to stash him there.
  4. I don't know if he'll be as effective as Hader has been this year, but I think he can be a successful reliever going forward. I could see a scenario down the stretch where the Brewers need a spot start and he starts a game and pitches the first time through the order.
  5. The most underrated work from Stearns I think maintaining depth this season. He kept Phillips, Broxton, Choi, Aguilar, Santana, Braun, and Thames. All will likely play or have already played an important role on this team especially with the injuries they've had to deal with so far. Also, as much credit we give Counsell for the way he's using the bullpen I think we need to give equal credit to Stearns. That's gotta be coming from the front office and kudos to CC for buying in. As far as actual trades/acquisitions: Shaw, Yelich, and Cain all stand out as extremely important for the foreseeable future.
  6. @Chicago South (3-0) @Cleveland (1-1) @Philadelphia (1-2) vs Chicago North (1-2) vs Philadelphia (2-1) @ Pittsburgh (2-1) vs St. Louis (2-2) vs Kansas City (2-0) @ Cincinnati (2-1) Total 16-10
  7. IT will be interesting to see what Machado ends up pulling in a trade. I understand that Machado plays SS and Martinez plays OF, but JD Martinez is also an elite hitter. The package the tigers god for Martinez was just ok. No super highly rated prospects. I'm not sure the Brewers could acquire Machado without including at least one Burnes, Peralta, or Huira but I don't think it would require more than one of them in the package.
  8. Re: Villar not getting the start Right handed hitters are historically much better against Wacha than lefties. That may be why Perez got the nod at second tonight. Career Vs L: .229/.298/.337 Vs R: .265/.323/.427 2018 Vs L: .200/.263/.222 Vs R: .255/.342/.434
  9. Did Counsell come out and name Knebel the "closer"? If he did, I must've missed that. Just because he was used in a save situation last night isn't necessarily indicative of how they'll manage the bullpen as a whole going forward. I think how Counsell used the bullpen last night was perfect. Albers- 2 run lead- faces the bottom of the order. Exits for PH. Jeffress- 2 run lead- faces top of the order. Exits game for Knebel who hasn't pitched in several days and Jeffress likely available for the next game. Knebel- 2 run lead- faces middle of the order. I think Counsell had the guys he wanted facing the part of the order he wanted them to face. Sometimes if makes sense to have guys pitch multiple innings depending on game situation, rest, and other available options. Last night it made sense to go inning to inning.
  10. I could see the Brewers doing it down the stretch run. I wouldn't burn Hader, Knebel or maybe Jeffress on a game that Suter/Woodruff/etc may let get away from them though. Not having Suter face the top of the line up 2x while facing the bottom of the line up 3x would be quite advantageous and possibly grind out an additional effective inning from him.
  11. I feel you, but with the aggressive nature of their bullpen use as well as guys like Davies, Anderson, and Braun on the DL it is nice to have a day off as often as possible.
  12. AJ Pollock is going to be an interesting free agent this off season. A couple of injured seasons, one elite season, and another elite season possibly this year. Plays up the middle but is going to be past the age of 30.
  13. I don't really care that Franklin was called up to replace Sogard. What I don't understand is why he's starting at 2b.
  14. I don't really think Orf or Dubon (sounds like the injury is bad) are really starting caliber players in the bigs. They're probably both suitable bench players though so I wouldn't have an issue with Sogard getting replaced. I sorta get the feeling this weekend was Sogard's chance to get going and since he didn't he's at severe risk of losing his roster spot in the next week or so when Knebel, Logan, and Davies will all presumably be back. This team has an opportunity to make a meaningful upgrade to the roster at 2b. They're getting limited offensive production and pretty bad defense at the position. Neil Walker has been bad, but there is a decent chance he gets DFAd when Bird comes back. If he does, the Brewers should explore acquiring him. Beyond Walker, there are several 2b options who may become available before the trade deadline including Lowrie (personal preference), Schoop, Dozier, Cabrera, etc. Until they can upgrade the position, I would ride Villar at second base as much as possible since he's unfortunately the best option at the moment.
