  1. Assuming we make the NLDS, we will need 4 starters/bulk arms and May is clearly one of those guys. I’m not sure I would’ve considered him that before we acquired him, but he’s certainly looked it in his first two outings for us. here’s to hoping the pitching group stays healthy and can continue to get extra days of rest down the stretch. harrison feels a bit like Priester last year. We as fans felt pretty good about him as a playoff starter all year… until we didn’t. Let’s hope he looks like early season Harrison heading into the playoffs.
  2. Obviously I have no idea what the clubhouse was like in the past or is like this year. We’ve heard the brewers have a “no ******* policy”. I haven’t necessarily noticed what you’ve noticed, but my theory would be that they’re not getting too high or too low during the regular season. They haven’t had the long winning streaks like last season. They haven’t been particularly “hot” either. They’ve just stayed incredibly consistent, winning 2/3 in a series 4-5 games a week. So they haven’t had the emotional highs and lows since they’ve just been consistently good all year. I’m sure svuem could tell us their best and worst stretches of the year, but it “feels” like there haven’t been any bad stretches and have only been a few “hot” streaks. just win.
  3. Obviously could include the bigger names like Contreras and megill on this list too. I think it depends how this season and post season play out. If we go to the World Series or hell, win it, it’s going to be a very poor look for fan engagement to trade any of the major contributors. also with the CBA negotiations looming, who knows how active the trade market will be. Especially if things get delayed all the way till February/March. I’ll add one note on grant anderson since he’s probably the least interesting player mentioned here, if he retains that option (haven’t checked to see how long he spent in AAA) then there’s no reason to offload him. He’s a perfect guy to have in the pen in that role. Reasonably effective in low leverage, can fake it in medium leverage, has an option, and most importantly seemingly has a rubber arm.
  4. So I’ve sorta been operating under the assumption that Bauers would be in line for a similar deal to what Ohearn hit last off season which was about 2 years for $30m. Similar age, position, handedness, spotty track record. However, if Bauers maintains this the final 5 weeks of the season he’s going to have a notably better walk year. Even if we work under the parameters of 2 years for $30ish… I might prefer the 1 year commitment of the qualifying offer. so I almost think you offer it hoping he takes it and you don’t have to commits to a multi year deal with him. sf70 makes a valid point, you don’t want to be trotting out a line up of 50% first and second year players. You need some stability.
  5. Ya... I'm kinda thinking if Ortiz is going to end up on the IL, Adams makes sense if they think j he can handle third base for a few weeks.
  6. Especially if its a matchup against the Phillies. Wheeler, Sanchez and luzardo is certainly pretty scary in any playoff series let alone a 3 gamrry
  7. Have a chance to win the series with Misiorowski going tomorrow. Facing the rookie from Tomah. picked up a game on the cubs and Braves already. Hopefully the dodgers too. good night.
  8. I think people get a little too worked up about the ABS stuff with Sánchez. I agree with you though.
  9. I read the passan and rosenthal articles this morning. Not a ton extra to glean from the Brewers perspective. Really only the timing of the trade-tigers wanting to make sure they got their preferred deal before teams had a chance to pivot to Kirby. I don’t think this is some grand conspiracy. I think it’s totally possible the Brewers feel they offered better packages than the dodgers, but the tigers own evaluation was that the dodgers package was better. I did find it interesting that the Brewers felt only Skubal, Gausman, and May were viable playoff starters. Notably Holmes, Mize, and Ray were also dealt and have sparkly surface stats. im still disappointed we didn’t land Skubal and that’s compounded by the dodgers trading for him, but I’m satisfied with the mindset the Brewers had and satisfied with the pivot to May.
  10. Then please explain to me why I get frustrated when we lose a game to the Angels on a Sunday afternoon in August? /s
  11. Drohan has been a lock for 6 effective innings recently. Hopefully we bust out the bats tonight and can have Wilson toss a few innings. Running with a 6 man rotation in this long stretch without an off day is going to be a challenge. I do imagine that at some point during this stretch they’ll need to make a roster move to bring in a fresh arm. Or, they send either gasser or drohan to the pen after their starts against the Twins. fresh arm options: Kuhnel: started a rehab assignment 8/2 crow, Gordon, Rom could all be recalled any time. koenig? That ship has probably sailed stallings and anderson both need to be down for a while since they just got optioned.
  12. I agree with other posters, Peña may be several years out yet. Not every prospect is going to be an mlb regular at 20-21 years old. He’s far enough away that I’m not really concerned with where he fits into the picture yet. Maybe the Nationals revisit trading Wood or Abrams and the Brewers take a swing there and Peña is part of that package. Or maybe he spends 2027 in aa, 2028 in aaa, and fits in at 2b to start 2029 if Turang is traded entering his final year of team control. Maybe he winds up in the OF. Lots of paths and several years for this situation to play out. I like Adams enough to add him to the 40 man this off-season. I don’t think he has enough power to be an everyday starter at first base. Maybe the brewers like his defense enough at 3rd base that he could fit as a CI bench piece? I’m not really “clearing space” for him though. crow is probably 7th or 8th on the SP depth chart heading into the off season (depending on the Priester time line). As we have seen this season, that’s probably going to translate into 7-10 starts, some relief appearances, and some AAA time too. Totally a valuable and necessary role. No need to overthink this one.
  13. Ya I’m not real on board with Hamilton playing essentially the strong side of the platoon right now. I knows it’s only a couple weeks, but he’s .211/.318/.263 since coming back from the IL. Joey has been pretty good for about 2 months now and I think we’d all agree his defense is a real asset at third. joey could totally go back to slumping hard any day now, but that’s not right now. I’d prefer to see Joey in there daily right now.
  14. Ya if your expectation was Skubal, this is certainly disappointing. im disappointed we didn’t get Skubal, but I do think the moves we made today will help weather the rest of the regular season and there’s a decent chance the 3 pitchers we got all make the playoff roster.
  15. My thought process was that Frias was the high upside guy with massive exit velocities, but still a ways off. Might be a guy, but could also end up a bust. ragsdale more of a high floor guy. Having a massive year. Similar timeline as Adamczewski and Payne, but probably the lesser prospect of the group. Felt lower ceiling and more redundant than Frias. who knows though. I won’t claim to be an expert. I just read the scouting reports and occasionally tune into a game.
  16. Seems like a pretty reasonable low cost trade. Not exciting, but some middle relief reinforcements were needed.
  17. Ya that last point is the real kicker. It’s pretty clear the Brewers internal evaluation of Frias isn’t as high as say the me just put out there by Fangraphs last week. that’s what I need to remind myself of. The brewers are good at this and they know more than I do or anyone who is putting out publicly available prospect evaluations.
  18. Yup, this is pretty painful. I’m ok with trading away Ragsdale. Frias is a player I would’ve wanted to keep. That’s a tough one.
  19. At first glance I like this move better than I thought I would when looking at names over the last month or so. I probably discounted it thinking the cardinals wouldn’t sell, but they’ve been kinda stinky lately so it’s not surprising to see them sell off some players. we even traded for an injured pitcher, a brewers time honored tradition. im sure the players we gave up will sting a little bit.
  20. As much as the rational fan in me thought “hey skubal is the only guy worth trading meaningful prospects for and now that our biggest competitor added him instead we might as well sit this one out”… I’m getting antsy. Give me an injured pitcher to dream on at least. 😂
  21. Even if it was inevitable, it’s hard for me to not feel disappointed. I guess I prefer him going to the Dodgers than the Braves, Cubs, or Phillies. We will still have a tough path to even see a match up with LA.
  22. I understand where you’re coming from. I even wanted the brewers to adopt the snell/Glasnow strategy with woodruff this year. Just get him to the playoffs healthy. but the bigger issue is that they’re able to pay $100m for ohtani, snell, and Glasnow and not need them to contribute to the regular season rotation because they’re so deep and they have very little competition in their division.
  23. I think he'll be remembered fondly as a solid role player. He really filled in admirably during Mitchell IL stints. I hope he can hit a little bit more for Cleveland and stick around the league for a few more years.
  24. I think this is the main motivation for the move. maybe they also think they could turn Naylor around a little bit, but I think that’s secondary to having a 3rd healthy catcher on the 40 man they can stash in AAA. as for Yoho, it was pretty clear the Brewers weren’t quite as enamored with him as us fans. Too bad we never saw him get a long term shot. I hope he finds success with Cleveland. The other 2 guys in the trade don’t mean much.
  25. This might be a reasonable proposal. Obviously Peña is a well regarded prospect across the board. Positional fit and timing of big league readiness possibly make him redundant and/or far enough away from his debut that I could stomach his inclusion. Fischer is a bit of a boom/bust prospect. Prodigious power, but scary whiff rate. I don’t mind trading him, but I kinda feel like he’s undervalued here. ragsdale, I could live with selling high on him. He’s having a great season and is possibly positionally redundant if he’s on a similar timeline as Adamczewski. moneys… I don’t mind in theory trading this type of prospect, I just don’t want to trade away this particular lottery ticket. overall, this package would hurt. If you subbed out Fischer and added Adams or Burke I think I’d be ok.
