  1. Santana still had value this off season and Shaw still has some value as well. That said the optics of trading for a .160 hitter in late June means no one is likely to trade for him right now unless we just give him away in a salary dump. I don't think letting it go on this long was the right thing to do, they solved the problem when he went on IL and brought up Hiura then for money reasons sent him down and we had a poor stretch against a lot of LH starters. This isn't just hindsight, most Brewer fans did not like Hiura getting sent down and were skeptical that Shaw would turn it around quickly enough considering how poor he had looked at the plate. Thames and Santana found their way into the doghouse a lot faster last year and they had 30 HR in 2017 as well. The real debate here should be whether the Brewers were right to make sure Hiura cleared super 2 in my opinion.
  2. Thank god, I will shut up about it now.
  3. You know the reason, you just don't agree with it. That's fine, just saying it's not a big mystery. Not sure about JMB but it's a mystery to me, if you are referring to CC's comments yesterday on it I will just say I don't believe that is the real reason. If not, what reason are you referring to?
  4. Yep getting it going for sure Sorry about the snark I try to avoid it on these forums these days but this is getting under my skin a bit.
  5. Shaw did take an IBB in front of the pitcher and scored a run today. Maybe we should put the brakes on this Hiura talk for a while.
  6. Well 5 1/3 and only 3 hits, close enough considering the last few starts, nice call
  7. I am only watching gamecast but there have been a couple of way outside called strikes The 1-1 pitch to Shaw was the worst one. It's like the umpire was rewarding him because he hit his spot...even though the catcher was setup off the plate. Another one way outside to Yelich, yet Chase walks the pticher

  9. No, Pina did put up .877 at AAA CS in 2016 though.
  10. Yeah, my comment was more about why Hiura wasn't brought up on Tuesday. Aggy isn't even playing and they weren't shy about sending Santana down last year and I don't think he was even as bad as Shaw is. I don't think everyone is being chicken littles on this particular issue, it's so obvious that there is no way the Brewers don't see it.
  11. Counsell sounds like a politician, he has been told how to answer that question and just keeps saying it over and over even though he probably doesn't agree with what he is saying. I know that avoiding super 2 is done by most if not all teams but is it usual to call them up the day after they clear it? I brought it up yesterday but the only explanation I can come up with right now is that they don't like the optics, especially considering their struggles against all these lefties without him and the fact that everyone questioned it when he went down. They probably should have went with defense rather than claiming they are waiting for Shaw and Aggy to come around, at least Counsell seems to be setting the stage by saying they need to get going soon.
  12. Now I am thinking they are keeping him down a little longer to make it not quite so obvious that it was about Super 2. It's getting ridiculous, the team has been scuffling and in my mind he is clearly an upgrade.
  13. Nice read, thanks for posting that. I know a lot guys thought Woodruff's stuff would play better in the bullpen but he has developed the multi pitch mix that makes him still tough pitching into the 6th and 7th. I wonder if Grandall has helped him there, I remember during a game they were quoting Grandall from early in the season that Woodruff was close but needed to get the right mix on his pitches.
  14. I think back when the Sid Finch thing was out there were a lot of articles afterward about how it is physically impossible to throw much harder than 105, not sure that was their number but if Hicks was hitting it I will use it. Sort of like how far a golf ball can be hit, yeah a lot more guys are hitting it long now but no one is getting 400 yards unless it rolls down hill. Probably a topic that has been discussed here before.
  15. OK, I see what you mean now. I think if they decided to go to 12 teams without UConn in the mix St Louis would have been one of them for sure. Dayton would be a better pick than Temple but they would maybe look for a new market in the east like Richmond. But it hasn't sounded like they were ever going to that unless it was a financial thing for the TV deal. With UConn the Big East should be better than the Pac12, SEC, and maybe the Big 12 most years. Just to keep it badger related it would be pretty cool to play UConn in the Gavin Games some season.
  16. UConn is arguably a blue blood program and I doubt they will be down for long. They are already in the Philly market and St Louis is really a mid major, I don't really think they are even comparable to UConn. Gonzaga is probably the only other team they would want and that doesn't make a lot of sense geographically. Notre Dame seems happy with their ACC deal. They can go to a 20 game schedule now and still play a full home and away schedule, I think they stay at 11 unless Fox or their next TV partner want more games but I don't think that TV contract has been a big success for the network.
  17. I have never been a watch every Brewer pitch guy, with some of our pitchers over the years I have preferred to watch something else while the opponent is batting. But I have been tuning in for his starts over the last few weeks. Really excited about this home grown pitcher something we rarely get to say, we have had pitchers go on some short term runs but he has filthy stuff that actually seems to be getting better all the time. He is very close to an ace, just needs to prove it a little while longer.
  18. Seems like Woodruff just has these innings where out of nowhere he gives up multiple quick runs.
  19. I don't doubt it's juiced but that was what we said after his 15 HR season in 2017 as well.
  20. I think they are throwing up the white flag on the football program and possibly dropping back to FCS. Nova and I think Butler have FCS programs. The Big Ten or ACC aren't likely to expand any time soon and without a top football program UConn isn't going to be that sought after anyway. They are a founding Big East member and I think they feel like the program has lagged since leaving it, it is certainly a big boost to the conference. Edit: The funny part of this is that I think UConn was like the only Big East team left with enough time in the conference to qualify for the Big East name buyout money so got a big lump of cash at the time and now rejoins anyway.
  21. Yeah maybe I misread and the joke wasn't that a pitcher would protect him. We are almost midway through the season and Woodruff is still slashing .364/.383/.867 and he hasn't even hit any dingers yet. bWAR has him at 1.7 for pitching but 2.3 overall. I found this link for best hitting seasons by pitchers, not many modern guys on the list. Gallardo had 4 HR's and an .837 OPS in 2010, Woody has a shot to top that. https://www.mlb.com/news/best-hitting-seasons-by-pitchers-c271448556
  22. I am not sure that should be blue. Woodruff had a couple of really nice Sundays in a row a few weeks ago, hopefully he can give us another stellar 8 inning stint. Be really nice to get the split and get pointed back in the right direction with hopefully Hiura up tomorrow.
