  1. It tougher than it seems on the surface since even with Schoop they still need him against lefties so letting him go would weaken this team this year I would think. His production is still pretty solid even with the low BA. But getting out of that contract opens up so many options in the off season, I am sure they would let him go and take their chances with Broxton or someone else against lefty starters the rest the way. But it's not happening.
  2. I had assumed he had a higher salary, so I guess the first team that claims him in the NL is likely the only team that gets to negotiate for him, probably not the Brewers but things could change later in August I guess as a few teams fall out of contention.
  3. The Os board seemed to love the Brewers trade but didn’t like the Braves trade FWIW. Ortiz and Carmona were talked about a lot during the Machado talk over there, have to think they may have been included in the Brewers offer since the Orioles turned around and traded for them anyway.
  4. That's it for the Lucroy/Jeffress trade, interesting not one of the players ever played for the Brewers
  5. Totally, I don't mind adding a bat didn't need to give up a top 10 prospect+ for this. I thought I read he has been injured this season though, maybe he can get back to last years level.
  6. Ugh I hate it, thought we need to keep Ortiz with Mederois gone unless it was part of something major. This doesn't qualify.
  7. Oof. Sweating out the package now, I doubt this showed up in the bold move list. I guess if we didn't give up much but I have no idea, he had WAR over 5 last year.
  8. He will likely clear waivers
  9. Brewers send Burnes, Ray, Lutz, Diplan and a flyer to be named to the Mets for Syndergaard. Mets can't get what they want for Wheeler and are tired of watching Thor not pitch, get ML ready starter to replace him and a near ML ready CF to stick with their not rebuilding plan, plus a couple of other prospects to bolster their system. Brewers take big gamble on often injured ace but still keep Huira/Peralta, something they couldn't do with deGrom. Sure not going to happen, Mets would likely balk at not getting Hiura, but trying to come up with something bold that would hurt in prospects yet still make me happy. But maybe a deal they could make in the off season.
  10. If he is another mid rotation guy then I would say no to Ray unless they threw something else in. But if they think he can be more of a #2 who can go deeper into games for the next 1+ seasons then it is probably worth it as I would guess there is a comp pick after that. It's taking a big chance, if Ray finishes off his good season he could be used as the headliner in a bigger deal this off season like deGrom. I guess I would rather get Harvey and keep the prospects for now, revisit in the offseason where we are at with starters. We just doubled down on the bullpen and I thought that meant they probably wouldn't go after a controllable starter. But I trust Stearns will make the right moves, should be an interesting couple of days.
  11. Yes and Ray was just having a solid but not great season a month ago, the guys doing these rankings are probably reluctant to be too knee jerk after a hot streak.
  12. With their talent as long as they are still around .500 they can turn it around, I would be surprised if they were a seller. Still lots of baseball left, Phillies and Atlanta could slide back a bit.
  13. Well just read he was hitting 98 mph yesterday, clubhouse issues aside it seems like a low cost gamble that could really payoff. I am sure the reds would be happy just getting a decent prospect for a guy they just picked up. He is going to be a free agent so should be motivated. I don't know, depending on what they give up I think I could come around to liking it.
  14. Sure but not sure the Tigers would give him up at a low cost to our liking, I think their system is already pretty stacked so they could just keep him and hope to bounce back next year. I know with Fulmer they have said they want #2 starter like return and no one will pay that, Fiers seems similar to a lot of guys who are available. I don't want to overpay for a guy who really may not be much better than what we have. No way I would give up Ortiz for him.
  15. I don't think many believe Ray is going to develop into a .300 major league hitter, if they did he would be a top 10 prospect. But looking at his AA numbers and skill set it's tough to see why he wouldn't be top 100 right now but to be fair I have no idea about all the guys ranked ahead of him as I only follow the Brewers prospects. Sure the K rate is concerning but in this days game it is hardly a huge red flag, I am sure they are working on his swing but like a lot of players his power is an OK trade off with the K's. I agree with whoever said Broxton is his floor, not his ceiling.
  16. It just really hurts letting top pitching prospects go for a rental relief pitcher, especially a former 1st round pick southpaw who just this year started to turn it around. The Brewers have struggled so much developing pitchers until recently, it feels like maybe our luck is changing there and Kodi's bounce back was one of the reasons I felt like that. I know his turn around is why they were able to get value but this seems like so much more than trading Ryan Cordell last year. But to be honest I am just still down on the team from the recent slump so more worried in the end they gave him away for nothing if we fail to make the playoffs, I will come around on this trade if they get hot again and at least make a run at things in September. Can't have too many good pitchers available in the bullpen and Medeiros wasn't going to help now.
  17. I was even a little disappointed in the Cain/Yellich moves as I was in the stick with the rebuilding plan camp during the off season. I was wrong though but after the recent slump I am glad we didn't overpay for Machado and I don't think this small market franchise can risk the huge package it would take for deGrom or Syndergard. Just not worth it to get a wildcard, we have a decent shot at that just standing pat. I have thought all year that they have kept the option open to move Hader to the rotation and we must be getting close to the point where they can do it and he can finish the year. Again I am probably overreacting to the recent play but if they want to give it a try the sooner the better, he needs to start building his innings up. With Suter out, Nelson a huge ? and Peralta on an innings limit it seems like they could find room. Maybe that would be the shot in the arm the team needs right now, they could even piggy back him and Peralta a couple of starts and then give Peralta his role in the bullpen the rest of the year.
  18. I haven't paid too close attention the last couple of weeks but just checked Ray's stats and all those HR's and stolen bases are pretty impressive. It looks like the strikeouts still need to come down a bit but he looks to have regained hist top prospects status. It wouldn't shock me to see him traded but he doesn't seem nearly as blocked as he did 6 months ago. Phillips bat appears more and more to only play as a starter in CF in the majors just like Broxton, Santana will probably be traded, Braun is only part time and Thames really doesn't belong in the OF. If Ray can keep up this power he should be just fine at a corner spot until Cain winds down. I am pretty excited about this kids promise now, for some reason I thought he projected as a 15 HR guy but with all his tools he has a really high ceiling, I certainly wouldn't throw him as a 3rd player in a package as was speculated somewhere recently.
