  1. Good news, his loss was pretty big last season, I know they were deep but he was the top guy coming back and the rest of them didn't look so great without him. Get some better QB play and this could be a surprise season. Really surprised he came back, thought he would look elsewhere to just get away from the whole thing.
  2. The team laid down every time Rodgers went down under MM. None of those QB's that filled in were good but I don't think it was just the drop off in QB play that made the losses pile up. Hopefully our new coach can correct that and we actually have a chance if he goes down again.
  3. Braun has a .808 OPS vs RHP this year, Gamel is at .654, with all the days off and Braun so hot this seems weird to me too.
  4. I find this injury pretty disappointing from not only a this season thing but also that Woody didn't finish off his good season. Now we will again be looking at his innings next season and I worry if he may be an injury prone guy. He missed few weeks after getting called up in 2017 as well.
  5. I have heard that same comment describing Spartacus which I haven't seen, must be a Starz thing. I watched Black Sails and liked it but I like a lot of those period dramas like Vikings, Deadwood, Rome, etc.
  6. Just watched the first half on Thursday but the starting defense looked soft again, not wrapping up on tackles and letting guys get 5 yards after first contact. I hate to overreact to preseason games but with the backdrop of how crappy the team was at the end of last season my expectations are lowering. Less than 3 weeks until the Bears and they don't look ready.
  7. Just looked at his stats after reading this, he already has as many hits as he did in 2018 and one more than 2017. Would like to see a few more dingers though for as healthy as he has been and all the talk about launch angle and batting stance. He has a 12 game hitting streak in games he has started.
  8. In a close race I agree the 2 years in a row thing works against Yelich as much as the team record does. He needs to have a finish like last year to remove all doubt, I would say another batting title along with the HR title will make him tough to pass on.
  9. Ugh went to meet a friend in a bar for happy hour to watch the last couple of innings, after Hader walked the first batter I said "Hader is going to blow this", the ball was headed out of the park before I finished the sentence.
  10. Braun sees like 10 pitches from him and gets a single his first time up and then K's twice rather easily. This must be that lack of pour it on skills we hear about.
  11. Maybe we should have traded Gamel yesterday, he seems the odd man out here. Pretty much have Shaw getting the nod over him.
  12. That is certainly a "go for it" type return. Martin, Bukauskas and Beer are legit blue-chippers, and Rojas isn't too far behind. I don't know anything about them but looking at the pipeline top 100 only Beer comes in at #100. They rank #4,#12, #13, and NR in the DBacks system now. I think I thought it would take Ray and Dubon in addition to about the same money coming back when we discussed Greinke a while back. That does look short now but not by as much as I thought from reading this thread yesterday.
  13. Or maybe they were actually telling the truth that the Hiura demotion wasn't Super 2 related, and the full reason was they were actually trying to get Shaw going again. That seems like a stretch to me considering the timing of it all and the way Hiura was hitting when demoted, but of course I can't know for sure what they were thinking.
  14. It does seem strange considering how the Hiura thing went down, he was needed and they still made sure he cleared super 2. Now they bring up Grisham earlier than expected without much of an opening to play, risking not only super 2 but a year of control should Grisham be needed to play early next season. I guess another way to look at it is they are bringing up their best players for the stretch run and there is more room now with Aguilar gone. If he can really cover center when needed we can trade Gamel in the offseason, Braun hasn't seen the IL this year but we can't count on that being a regular thing obviously. With Moose and Grandal possibly gone next year another LH power bat could certainly be needed so finding out if he can play this year may have a pretty big impact on offseason planning.
  15. It seems like the prevailing opinion around here from the Grisham minor league thread is that he is a left fielder in the majors. Not a great arm and has lost speed since he was drafted.
  16. I am not loving this deal at first glance, as someone else said we already have some guys who throw hard who can't get it done in the majors. But I guess when you are thin on prospects you have to try to mine some nuggets. I doubt we will regret Dubon but then I never really thought Cain or Brantley would be half the players they turned out to be either. Oh well, about what I expected I guess for our deadline deals just seems like the Giants fans are probably thrilled about landing our #3 prospect for those guys.
  17. Sounds like LaFleur was not very happy with the offense in practice today, called them out for poor effort. Defense was again better, ZSmith beat Bakhtiari twice in one on ones. LaFleur also said Burks needs to be more consistent, that second ILB position is definitely a question mark.
  18. Yeah publicly complaining about his defense and partially benching him isn't a very good tactic if you plan on trading him.
  19. It was sort of my own fault, I got a new weed wacker and was clearing an area of my backyard for a hour or so every morning for a few days. I was out of bug spray after the first day but plowed forward anyway, it's not like there is a lack of awareness about the risk around here, I even thought about how tick infested it probably was while doing it but figured I would find any ticks on me. Then some time later I had a strange fever for a couple of days and finally noticed a rash on the back of my leg, right where I wouldn't have noticed a tick. Hopefully the antibiotics got rid of it, if you catch it early it is supposedly no big deal. Ironically I was clearing the area because my dogs were too close to the weeds when on their tie out and I was worried about them getting ticks. There is a vaccine for dogs and the FDA is fast tracking one for people right now.
  20. I wouldn't be shocked if the Brewers found a way to get Syndergaard, it would probably take Davies and Shaw plus a prospect package to make up for us not having top prospects but it's the Mets so I wouldn't write us off just because it seems hard to compete with our prospects. I would rather they would just spend money and less player capital on Greinke but that's the cross we bear in this league, I just can't see them committing to picking up most of his salary when they passed on Kimbrell/Keuchel.
  21. Gamel has 18 HR in around 1100 career PA's, that doesn't play very well at a corner OF spot so no he isn't a replacement for Braun. Nice player who has exceeded my expectations this year though.
  22. 25 pages on the Bucks offseason thread and we are on 7 here. My how things have changed in a just a couple of years. Early camp reports seem to indicate D is ahead of the offense, not very surprising. Glad to see both King and Gary practicing out of the chute, King in particular really needs to stay healthy. Really pretty good health across the board. Signed a running back yesterday Corey Grant who backed up in JAx for a few years, fast guy who probably has a good chance to stick.
