  1. Chacin is worth nothing. Albers is worth nothing. If you were a buyer, would you want them? We could maybe ditch some of Chacin's remaining salary, that's nothing to me but for this franchise may matter. It's still al little premature talk anyway but we seem to be headed there fast.
  2. It could definitely happen, we are on a pretty long slide here, you will see it brought up again if they don't turn this around.
  3. What's the answer though? Just give games away like this? Ok. Sell.
  4. I was thinking the same thing, Braun was pretty mad about it. Weird to see plays like that and it does seem like Yelich has more than his share.
  5. I am as happy about Grisham as anyone but he is hitting .252 with an .860 OPS on the year, nice but not so great it jumps him ahead of 28 other guys in half a season. I don't think he is having as good a season as Ray did last year. Plus he is a corner OF while Ray can play center in the majors, I guess he is 2 years younger but Ray's all around game still keeps him near the top of our system IMO. Grisham has literally not played any other position than CF this year, so I don't know why you would assume he is limited to the corners while Ray can play CF at this level. I guess that is my impression from scouting reports? I could be wrong there as I checked and the one below doesn't say Grisham can't play center in the majors but i thought he profiled more as a corner guy as a MLB starter. He is certainly not as fast as Ray. From pipeline: Ray's wheels also serve him well in center field, where he's an above-average defender with at least average arm strength. Defensively, Grisham primarily plays left field but has seen time at all three outfield positions throughout his career.

  7. I don't see the Brewers giving up Ray for a rental, I think maybe you just don't like him so I can see why you don't mind but I doubt the Brewers share that view. Smith has been really good and may fetch a prospect as good as Ray but the Brewers don't have the prospect depth and can't make it up in FA like some of the other contenders. Someone else said it here yesterday but the recent slide should take most of the Brewers top 10 prospects off the block until the team shows they have turned it around.
  8. It sort of galls me that that joke of a franchise won 2 World Series while we went through like 20 years of misery.
  9. Yeah if we were just competing for a wildcard I think the selling decision would be easier but with the division wide open I think they owe it to the fans to at least stay the course and see what happens. Like a lot of us this morning I am not feeling too good about our chances, they better make those relief pitcher acquisitions soon.
  10. Probably kicking the tires as you say but the Brewers do show up in recent articles about him. I do think the Mets will move him. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-rumors-mets-noah-syndergaard-is-drawing-interest-from-brewers-padres-others-ahead-of-trade-deadline/ Edit: I guess this is the same stuff in the OP of the thread, seems like this thread has been around longer.
  11. I very much doubt that gets it done. A likely reliever, a guy with a starter's arsenal that bombed so bad that he had to move back to the bullpen and then back and forth between the bullpen and the minors and then a SS that's going to be entering arbitration that's maybe like a 2 WAR guy. Adding another smaller piece on to that doesn't do much. Syndergaard has his warts too, that and the fact that the Mets may prefer to retool rather than rebuild are the only reason we are talking about him. If Hiura is out we likely can't compete with the Stros and Padres in a prospect package so this is the best we got. We reportedly have interest so we must have something worthwhile to offer.
  12. Man, that's a ton of young MLB talent that we are giving up on. I just can't see Stearns shipping away those three guys in one deal - for a guy in Thor who's a major injury risk. I think Peralta/Burnes would have to be an either/or situation, but not both. And if we are giving up on Arcia - we better be damn certain that Dubon is ready to contribute from day 1. Again - I just can't see a scenario where we are going to give up three guys currently on our MLB roster - especially three young guys who all might have their best years in front of them. These plans have a way of blowing up but it would be pretty easy to build a very good rotation around Thor, Woody, and Davies the next 2.5 years without having to spend much more. I agree it's a lot to give up but it makes us better this year and Syndergaard could make us forget Peralta/Burnes for the next couple of years no matter how good they become. I hate giving up Arcia but Dubon and Saladino can cover it the rest of the year. I guess it depends on what else the Mets would want but I would lean toward making that deal if it is possible.
  13. If the Mets truly value close-to ML assets over lower level guys, I wonder if pitchers such as Houser, Supak or even Knebel, and hitters like Nottingham, Dubon and Grisham are going to hold more appeal? I'd suggest Ray, Taylor and Stokes, but all three of them are scuffling big time, so I doubt they are being looked at heavily as major trade pieces. Ray has been out for so long it's hard to say how teams view him at this point. We do have a few buy low candidates for the Mets if they want MLB pieces. Going into the season most of us thought Burnes would be the top guy of the 3 young pitchers but now who trades Woodruff straight up for Syndergaard? Burnes could be just like him next season with 5 years of control left. Maybe the Mets like Shaw as a bounce back candidate as well if they need a LH power bat. It's not very likely to happen but he is one of the only guys I think the Brewers should make a big deal for right now and he is sort of a buy low guy right now too. edit: Just realized Ray back in Biloxi
  14. It's tough as I really like the idea of adding an starter like him but I wouldn't. Too many years of Hiura for 2.5 of Thor, that's the difference for me.
  15. Well now that it's out there it will be interesting to see how the deadline trades match up. I do agree that you overpay for pitching at the deadline in general and they are right to deal them separately, the combined deal is a pipe dream unless an elite prospect is involved. I do think Brewer fans here weirdly underrate the value of their own players and overvalue other teams. I guess it's because we watch them so much closer. I look at the career number of guys like Stroman and Boyd and see another Davies yet guys talk about them demanding Hiura and Kyle Tucker and I just don't see it. I don't think I am reading too much into the site, they are trying to give a number for actual value not deadline value so we need to adjust for that. I mean at least it is a number from a neutral source and not just talk about hanging up the phone and the like.
  16. I totally agree about the value of young MLB players, especially ones who were good prospects like Arcia and Peralta. But yeah tough to find a fit when you are trying to add arms at the deadline, a team like the Mets that always tries to contend would probably take the major league guys but not sure about the Jays. Like you say they are trading guys who can't help now for guys who could 2 or 3 years down the road. Peralta 14.7 Ray 11 Dubon 5.8 So it falls a little short but these are just numbers some system is spitting out, that's not a bad trade package at all IMO.
  17. We know all these answers! OK I am getting a little too much mileage out of the trade value site but it's fun. Stroman and Giles = 37.5 total value Arcia, Peralta, Ray = 49.8 So no need for Ray or a lottery pick...
  18. They reportedly asked for Tucker from Houston, a similar ranked prospect to Hiura, and were told no. If the Tigers take that stance they will be keeping Boyd, I wouldn't want the Brewers to pay what it will take even without Hiura. As I said above he was just another guy prior to the last 3 months.
  19. FWIW values from the trade value site: Woodruff 29.5 Boyd 34 Davies 31.1 Woodruff's value has to be skyrocketing with every start but I would say these numbers are pretty up to date since they clearly reflect this seasons performance. No way I would trade Woody for Boyd, the years of control makes a huge difference. Values today: Woodruff 35.5 Boyd 34.4 Davies 30.2 So they do update this fairly regularly which is pretty cool.
  20. I think this sentiment will extend straight through the trade deadline. Pretty much every team in contention can outbid us if they want to. It's going to be a couple of under the radar moves and not much more. The players we have are going to have to play better. Agree, other than making a low prospect cost move for a rental reliever this is what we should be doing IMO. If Anderson and Chacin have better second halves the rotation could be OK, the hitting has been under performing but could still get hot. I just don't see this team as good enough to win a world series considering the quality of the top teams so no way they go all in by dealing most of our good prospects in a thin system. Let some of these prospects develop and we may be better set to make the bigger moves this offseason or next seasons deadline. We can still make the playoffs and maybe a few Gio/Grandy type vets get released after the deadline and we can add some talent that way.
  21. If he was out long term I think I would start hanging out in the sell thread, that would be the loss that makes this too tough to fix with our resources.
  22. To try and answer this I checked on the trade value site and if the DBacks kicked in the 32.5 million you proposed and if the Brewers offered Ray/Dubon the values would be: Greinke + 32.5 million = 20 Ray/Dubon = 16.8 So it's in the neighborhood.I still question whether the Brewers would want to pay what is left on the contract but Greinke's negative value and continued high level pitching makes him an interesting target.
  23. He was discussed a bit in the offseason, some of us thought if you could get the price down to 60-70 million for 3 years it was fair and worth it. Others question the fastball decline and how well he would age. I think he has answered that second question, at this point I would gladly offer the Dubon/Ray type package mentioned in the Boyd thread provided they kick in some money. But they wanted to trade him to get out from under that contract so they may be looking for a big market team who won't mind spending so much. Plus if we balked at spending on Keuchel/Kimbrell it's hard to see them taking on even half that salary.
  24. Sounds like it's possible they could have the PTE if they stretch Leuer or even trade Ersan to clear the cap space for the new deals but if they really don't want to go over the tax they probably won't as they wouldn't want that available if they are not going to use it. I am holding out hope that it is not the tax and just Brogdon not wanting to come back so they can still add a good player like Richardson. Not sure how realistic that is though, saw Eric Gordon brought up somewhere too.
