  1. When I read the initial reports on the McAfee interview while at work yesterday they did make it sound like he was blaming the Packers when they took one quote out of context. Later when I saw more of the interview I realized he was really just explaining that they weren't waiting on his decision anymore, he didn't sound hostile to the Packers to me. I think those early reports are what gave that impression to some.
  2. I think the 13th pick all by itself would be fair compensation, but I can see why the Jets likely won't give it up. If they are going all in with Rodgers for a year or 2 they need that starter. It's a premium pick and reading Jets forums they still need some help on the oline. Future picks they would probably part with easier as they hope they will be later in the rounds. I also think the Packers should be fine with picks in 24 and 25 as it will help to build around Love. They have been running a top 10 Rodgers moments on NFL network all morning, reminded just how great it has been having him all these years and I agree it's sort of sad to see him shown the door even if I agree with it. It also made me think those who think he isn't worth much in a trade are wrong.
  3. I read that Silverstein reported Gutes said he wanted to move on with Love late in the season. Seems to be plenty of smoke here, enough for me to think we have seen the last of Rodgers playing QB in GB. The jets 13 pick would be nice, is the Raiders 7 pick too much to hope for?
  4. I may be in the minority but I think OL is a big priority and if things fall our way would like to se 2 drafted in first 4 picks along with a DL. There is obviously some others to blame for the playoff losses the last 3 years but we got dominated in the trenches all 3 games. Bak is a question mark, Jenkins too, I like the progress the young OL guys made last year but I think it's time to beef up the talent on the lines for Rodgers last years. Throw in a WR and address other needs down further in the draft.
  5. Reacher is entertaining enough, the perfect series to released before the holidays as it's the sort of action flick everyone enjoys. But it's pretty much just Roadhouse, and no one will ever do it better than Roadhouse. Peacemaker is easily the most entertaining show I have watched in the last year, and I watch way too much TV these days.
  6. Yes, I don't think my last 2 jobs ever contacted my references, for sure my last one didn't. Maybe it's just that I have a longer work history now and a lot of stuff is now verifiable in other ways but generally I would think you get a pretty good feel for a person and their skills from interviews and no one is going to provide a reference that would say anything bad about them. It's probably not a great tool to use in the hiring decision process anyway.
  7. I had read about it but didn't realize it until becoming unemployed again, there has been a shift from employees being made to feel like they are lucky to have a job to employers being lucky to have employees. I can't say this exist in all professions but it is definitely happening in the service sector as well as IT. In my view this is a good side effect of COVID.
  8. I hadn't realized it until you posted this but yes Indeed seems much easier to apply than the last time I tested the market a few years ago. It's so annoying to spend 15 minutes on a detailed application before you even know if there will be interest in you. Now like you say every morning I have a bunch of emails from employers and I can quickly submit my resume/contact info if I am interested. Yesterday I applied for a job through a local online newspaper and am now apparently on ziprecruiter as well, I get emails from there too but not sure yet how good it is yet.
  9. I quit my job of 10 years at the end of December. I just realized the job stress was making me unhappy and affecting me even in my time off and finally pulled the plug on it. I am in IT and the job market is amazing right now, it's unbelievable the difference remote work has had on the number of opportunities that are out there when you used to be largely bound to your local area. I am taking my time and looking for something that I know I will be happy in rather than focused on pay, I guess part of getting older for me is realizing money isn't everything.
  10. Ha I have always thought the Escobar Hippos were pretty cool but wouldn’t want to run into one while out hiking. Sorta a similar story I lived in Hollywood FL for years and one night at a bar some guy is telling me that Dania Beach has monkeys, I thought he was full of it but looked it up when got home a what do you know some escaped from a zoo or circus or something back in the 1920’s and there has been a stable population living in the mangroves ever since. All we get here in the Midwest is Asian carp and those lamprey things.
  11. I never looked into Belize but I have 2 coworkers who have moved to Costa Rica since COVID started and are pretty happy about it. I was working from home even before COVID for the most part and have thought a lot about this, I sort of think Colombia is a good place to get in while it is still cheaper. Still a stigma to it from FARC and Escobar but really coming out of all that.
  12. Totinos isn't it and I have never been able to find the TV dinner pizza suggested so took a shot at the recipe below that claims to be from the government school cafeteria recipe. We stuck pretty much to the recipe, used 1 Lb ground beef but spiced it with garlic salt, italian seasoning, and fennel seed while browning. I used Walmarts Great Value pizza sauce, ending up using a bit more of that and mozzarella than the recipe suggested since I had so much meat and it seemed to need it. The result? The crust was at least 2x thicker than the pizza I had in my grade school cafeteria, it turned out more like a Rocky Rococco crust. The flavor and texture was right though so I think the recipe is correct just need to adjust the amount of batter next time I guess. It actually turned out pretty tasty even if not what I was after, I had too much meat but ground beef is the right call and it turned out more like a meat pie but without the grease that a similar amount of sausage or pepperoni would. The fennel adds a nice flavor but not sure if that is what they used in the cafeteria or is a flavor of another of my childhood favorites, Tombstone Sausage. https://www.plainchicken.com/school-cafeteria-pizza/
  13. Pothole is the Hormel brand that Kwik Trip replaced Heggies with? If so not a fan at all, too much sauce and toppings. I guess that is the idea but could only eat a couple of pieces and never wanted it again. But I am not a fan of Lotza Motza except the taco either.
  14. Goat cheese in place of mayo on a BLT. I was skeptical as I think the mayo makes the BLT but very tasty.
  15. Watched Repo Man for the first time since probably the 80’s. Awesome movie and it has aged much better than all those John Hughes flicks. Sort of seems like a Tarantino movie at times, was thinking I am surprised Harry Dean Stanton wasn’t a Tarantino regular. Great soundtrack too.
  16. I have been watching Yellowstone and am surprised how much I like it, flew through the first season which is unusual for me as I tend to get bored binge watching most new shows and go back and forth among a few at a time. More of a serial and much darker than Longmire but it does borrow pretty heavily from the broader story lines of that show. I guess I can't get enough of rural crime dramas.
  17. Was a villain in El Dorado, a really entertaining John Wayne western and I think I recently saw him in Cobra Kai. RIP
  18. Things have definitely changed on the remote work side, companies still fighting it are losing out on top talent. I had gotten myself to full time remote then took some time off but went back to same company, new manager insisted I come in at least a couple of days a week and had a real problem with remote workers. Then Covid came and they found productivity increased with workers at home so now we are fully hybrid and no one is required to come in except new hires in entry positions. Interviews are exhausting, they don't really stress me out any more but I went through a process late last year and had 4 separate interviews, it got sort of annoying in the end. Then I turned it down because of the remote work thing, that is tough to let go of. It literally turns what used to be a 10 hour work day(commute, getting up, getting ready etc) into 8 hours. Not to mention I can just take a nap over lunch break if tired which gets rid of the lazy food coma afternoons I have had most of my life in the office.
  19. Buy one of those TV dinners...it tastes pretty close even getting the soggy and chewy texture. What TV dinners are you talking about? I see someone said totinos below but I have had their pizza rolls and it's hard to believe it's not garbage. I loved school cafeteria pizza and can still remember the taste but never found anything like it. Pizza Villa in West Salem was a recent discovery I had, awesome crust although I would recommend extra cheese.
  20. I feel like maybe the golden age of TV ended with GoT. Maybe it's just TV burnout from too much time at home during Covid but I struggle to find any shows worthy of binge watching anymore. I probably have about 6 shows I am in the middle of but I still turn on the TV and can't find anything I want to watch. Was just looking at the Emmy's from last year and maybe Succession is something I should pick up again but like so many other shows I just sort of burned out on it after a season or 2, they just don't suck you in like Breaking Bad or the Sopranos did. I did recently watch The Newsroom for the first time and got through that pretty quick, only 25 episodes or so not sure why it was so short lived. Maybe it's time for a swing back to movies being the big thing again but yeah have to get out of this comic book stuff. You may be right. The last year hasn't been that great but I'll throw Better Call Saul against any show out there right now. If anyone is into mafia crime dramas (and doesn't mind subtitles) there's a good one on HBO Max called Gomorrah. For sure, I had Hulu live which didn't have AMC so waiting for season 5 on netflix right now. It's been so long since season 4 that I forgot how good it was until you mentioned it, I probably need to rewatch to catch up. That is a problem with a lot of shows these days, it shouldn't take 2 years for a new season.

  22. I like Bosch, I always seem to blow through the new seasons in just a few days. It sort of tries to be The Wire but lacks the humor and memorable characters. I think pulling off the comedy is what separates the truly great crime dramas like Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Wire, Deadwood, Justified, Saul, Boardwalk Empire, maybe The Shield need to watch that again. Those shows are all hilarious and that's what makes them worth a second watch. Just finished Homeland, it's a solid final season.
  23. I have been watching Picard this weekend and you are going to have forgive me for not keeping up on trekkie news but Seven of Nine is back!!!! A little aged but then so am I. I'd still....
  24. The Home Run Inn is what prompted my complaint about no cardboard trays in the bugging you thread but I have to admit it was a pretty tasty frozen pizza, I don't like a lot of sauce and it seemed just right in that regard. It also gave me a stomachache a few hours later and it happened with both the sausage and the pepperoni so that takes it way off my best list. Also, I didn't really care for Lotza Mottza but after hearing about the Taco Grande here I got one and threw some romaine, sour cream, and taco sauce on it and it was awesome.
