  1. Well, I guess that's it for me watching the US Open in the future. Always liked Greg Norman but Joe Buck? THAT Joe Buck?!? No. Thank. You.
  2. I don't think Italy beating Uruguay or Costa Rica is a given. Teams from this side of the globe have played really well so far. Italy will have to be at their best to get max points in the group. And I'm not going to get into the "Suarez is a monster" debate but I have to say he showed again against England that he's probably the best player on the planet right now. Has surgery, misses the first match, comes in cold and scores twice including the goal that will probably go down as the one that knocked out England. Suarez got the last laugh against England and its insane, sick media. Good for him.
  3. England can still advance. They just need Italy to win both of their remaining group games and England will probably need to beat Costa Rica by multiple goals in their last game. Basically what I'm saying is, they're pretty much screwed but they're not out yet.
  4. I dunno, attendance seems fine and summer isn't even half a month old yet. Maybe WSSP isn't getting the volume of callers wanted to talk about the Brewers. For me personally, I'm not as excited as I was in 2011. I think some of that has to do with the fact that the 2010-2011 offseason was way more exciting than this past off season. We expected to compete in 2011, we were "all in". This year? We signed Garza and we got Braun back from suspension. Good news on both fronts, but no where near "OMG, we got Grienke" territory. Plus, that's coming off the back of last season's complete garbage fire. 2013 is probably still pretty fresh in the minds of the fans and they're waiting for it to all come unglued. I say give it another month and if the Crew is still up a few games on the division I'm sure the city of Milwaukee will start to feel it again.
  5. It's not just this site, it's the entire state of Wisconsin. I'm not saying Rickie is having an amazing season but people act as though he's done nothing helpful this year and that's not the case. It's just bizarre seeing as how Scooter gets more starts anyways.
  6. The Milwaukee area has quite a large Mexican community. Not as large as some other cities but still quite sizable. Plus, Chicago is only an hour and a half away. Swansea is an easy choice for an opponent as their training base is in Chicago this summer. Bottom line, Milwaukee can't realistically expect to get Man City to play Real Madrid at Miller Park. To get a very popular Mexican club and ANY club from the Premier League is a pretty cool thing for the city of Milwaukee. I expect a pretty large crowd. The Liverpool/Olympiacos match in Chicago is 2 to 4 times as expensive as far as tickets are concerned. $50 was the cheapest I found for that one.
  7. The tickets aren't that expensive considering one of the teams is the most popular Mexican club and the other is a Premier League club. Most of the seats are $25, though most of them will be a bit awkward for a soccer match. Parking, on the other hand, will be quite expensive. $20 in advance and $25 day of. Yikes. I'm gonna try to go to this and Liverpool/Olympiacos in Chicago later in July. As for the field after the match, I can't say for sure if it will damage it in any way but I know Fenway and Yankee Stadium among others have hosted soccer in the last few years and I didn't hear anything about the field afterwards so I don't think it'll be much of an issue at all.
  8. I gave up hoping that my favorite players were decent people a long time ago. I probably wouldn't have given Braun a standing ovation but I don't mind that others did. My point is, I hope he mashes this year and for years to come. Why? So the Brewers can win baseball games. I couldn't possibly care less about what the national media thinks about that or Brewer fans in general. They don't care if the Brewers win 60 games or 100.
  9. Welcome to College Hockey. If you host, you get all the perks. If you don't host, you better pray you dominate from January on.
  10. Please. Either you like your teammates or you don't. I'll miss him as much as he does or doesn't miss us. I can't accept the "Well, Rickie Weeks didn't beg me to stay so I said, 'Cya.'" If you don't like the city or the front office or your teammates, just say so. No one will remember either way. It's not like we burn Chad Fox in effigy on the anniversary of his final Brewers injury, no matter if *I* think we should or not. If he wanted to stay here, he would have. He'll make a solid DH.
  11. I understand the optimism from fans. He has always had great numbers before last year. However, I just see the thumb causing problems on and off all season. I'm going .287/.358/.498, 20-24 HRs, lots of 2Bs if he stays healthy. Still good, not great. I don't see the PED thing causing a drop in power, I think it's the thumb that will prevent him from having a big 2014.
  12. She knew the US player came across her back, clipped her leg and the Canadian player went down. Both refs are behind the play. Something is going to be called every time when that happens. And again, the breakaway was caused by an error in our end. Make a simple, uncontested 8 foot pass and it never happens. The slashing penalty was the only one I had issue with. Everything else was our own doing.
  13. If we don't turn the puck over in our own zone, with an awful pass that blew a scoring chance, that breakaway never happens. There was contact and the Canadian went down. They're calling that every time. It easily could have been a penalty shot. They panicked in the 3rd period and choked it away. Blaming the refs can't hide that. We should be questioning why we allowed the game to get to OT in the first place instead of questioning the officials.
  14. It's almost as if Patrick Kane read what I wrote about him last night and said, "You know what, Mike? I can do worse." Halfway through the 3rd and it's 4-0 Finland as I write this. How disinterested can one team look while taking stupid, lazy penalty after stupid, lazy penalty?
  15. I'm not a big fan of Patrick Kane and I agree with Kane having a pretty bad game. However, no way would they or should they not have him on the team. I think it was more of a case of him trying to do too much himself. I don't see it as selfish, I see it more as a guy trying too hard on the big stage. Playing with guys you're not familiar with doesn't help. He's too talented to leave at home. Nonsense. I agree that the slashing call was garbage but they have no excuse for how they played in the final 5 minutes of regulation. Not one defender anywhere near the scorer of the tying goal when she got the puck. They looked totally panicked after the first goal. It was a total choke job, period. The refs(one of the linesmen actually) almost WON the game for the American women on the empty net post shot by getting in the way of the Canadian d-man and allowing the US player to get to the puck first.
  16. The Canadian men & women won gold in curling. Current medal count: USA: 9 G, 7 S, 11 B Canada: 9 G, 10 S, 5 B
  17. Never looked like scoring today. Being down by one felt like being down by three. Really frustrating since we were pretty dominant for much of the tournament. It would be nice to win the thing one of these Olympics(mostly so we can move on from the '80 team) but if we couldn't do it with this team, I just don't know when or how it will happen. Now it just feels like a long four years til everyone hypes the next Silver/Bronze-medal-hopeful American hockey team. That, plus the women's epic choke yesterday, really fails to leave any good feeling from these games from a USA hockey fan point of view. One waste of an opportunity after another.
  18. Some people are not made physically to play pro sports. I wish him the best. He just wasn't made for the daily grind of baseball.
  19. That's the best 20 minutes I've ever seen Liverpool play. The pressing, the passing, the through balls, the shots, the set pieces, the Suarez shot off the post, everything. The only word that came to mind was "oppressive". If they get their away form in a little better shape they will easily make top 4 and could, with a good bit of luck, make a push for the top.
  20. I'd rather have Donnie Murphy for the simple fact that he is not Yuni. I know Yuni, I've seen Yuni. If Murphy is just as bad or worse at least I haven't had the experience of him making me want to destroy things yet. And a major league deal? Words fail to accurately describe the anger and sadness I feel.
  21. The ref had a terrible game. Shelvey went in too strong but Evans went in with two feet. If you send off Shelvey you have to send off Evans as well. Or give them both yellows. The penalty was a little soft, but the red card was the big difference in the game. Credit to Liverpool for outplaying Man U, even with 10 men.
  22. I preface this by saying that I believe that the move had VERY little effect on the bullpen's success, or lack thereof. I still don't agree with the decision to fire Kyles. Scapegoating is never acceptable in my mind for any business or walk of life. It's just silly and wrong. It's an act to deceive. You can argue that it could "light a fire" under some guys. I disagree. The bullpen arms screwed up and not one player in that bullpen paid any sort of price for it. That's weak and it certainly doesn't breed accountability within the organization. Sure, it all worked out in the end, but I still don't agree with it.
  23. Every game is now it's own mutually exclusive event in my mind. Nothing that happens in one game really ties in with anything that happens in the other games remaining. Playoffs? Not even a lingering thought in my head at this time. If we're within 3-4 games in a couple weeks with only one team between us and the final wild card spot, then I'll start to think about it. However, I just don't see that happening. Too much to overcome with not enough time. Just enjoy the baseball that's left and if we play the way we've been playing the last week or so, the last month of the season will be pretty enjoyable.
  24. How fun was that top of the 9th? And all the K's? Sweetness.
  25. Wild generalizations: It's what makes a solid argument.
