  1. Forgot to remove Austin and Spangenberg who elected FA after being outrighted. Payroll stands at roughly 96.35M
  2. Here is my rough 40-man and payroll calculations
  3. Using the Rockies as a partner like above. Brendan Rodgers 71 Garrett Hampson 10.7 Kyle Freeland 6.1 Wade Davis -15.7 72.00 FVA Keston Hiura 72.5 Corey Ray 4.8 77.3 FVA Rockies get a middle of the order bat to make a mashing IF of Arenado/Story/Hiura/McMahon, take a shot on Ray finding his swing in Coors, and cut Davis' salary. Brewers get long term solid contributers in Rogers/Hampson, take a flier on Freeland bouncing back, and eating Davis' salary hoping he can improve by getting out of Coors.
  4. My entry: From 60-Day DL to 40-man: Corey Knebel Bobby Wahl Re-signed: Yasmani Grandal (3 years, $54 million) Drew Pomeranz (3 years, $12 million) Jordan Lyles (2 years, $12 million) Mike Moustakas (2 years, $20 million) Allowed to Walk/DFA/Non-Tendered: Hernan Perez Matt Albers Tyler Saladino David Freitas Tyler Austin Jimmy Nelson (minor-league deal with NRI) Trades: RP Josh Hader to LAD for SS Gavin Lux SP Chase Anderson to SDP for SS/2B Owen Miller 3B Travis Shaw to BAL for RHP Dillon Tate & C Brett Cumberland SS Orlando Arcia to ARI for 3B/1B Kevin Cron & RHP Ryne Miller (Arica and Shawe are so hard to peg for value, so I may be off on their returns. In the trades I was looking for MLB bench pieces that balance our lineup of LHs) FA signings: RHP Jake Odorizzi (3 years, 40 million) NRI to spring training/minor-league FA signings: RHP Jimmy Nelson RHP Jeremy Jeffress Lineup: SS: Gavin Lux RF: Yelich 2B: Hiura C: Grandal 3B: Moustakas LF: Braun 1B: Thames CF: Cain SP Bench: Manny Pina ©, Owen Miller (SS/2B), Ben Gamel (LF/CF/RF), Kevin Cron (1B/3B) SP: Woodruff, Odorizzi, Davies, Houser, Lyles BP: Knebel, Suter, Pomeranz, Peralta, Guerra, Claudio, Jackson, Wahl AAA pitching shuttle: Burnes, D. Williams, Supak, Brown, Black, T. Williams, Faria, Tate 40-man Payroll: 133.8M
  5. Ray & Holland (22.2M Surplus) for Peralta & Ray (25.7 Surplus) Surplus is based off of trade value site. Brewers overpay a little in a surplus sense, but I believe they need to because the site is a little high on Ray during his down year.
  6. I will have an extra. Already have tix for the all fan bobbles for this year, but I’d be willing to trade for a different bobble. PM me if your interested.
  7. I’m assuming he was talking about Moose at 3rd, Shaw/Aggy at 1st, and Huira at 2nd.
  8. There are too many variables. I've long been a huge fan of Greinke, well before we traded for him and after. But what does that deal include? How much is AZ gonna eat? Because if they're not taking back salary, we might as well sign Kimbrel and Kuechel instead. If they're going to pay 60 pct of his salary to get prospects back, who are those prospects? He's certainly not the Greinke that pitched in Milwaukee as he's lost his FB velo, but he would be a great addition. The question is too vague to answer directly, who knows what the Giants want from one of the most successful players in franchise history in terms of team success? I'd assume sentimental value is going to be included in that price. I don't know how good Stroman really is, same with Sanchez. Ultimately the Brewers are going to probably do both. They're going go keep throwing their guys out there and it's tough to envision them not getting better. In another 2 months, who knows who could be ready. Sanchez, Rasmussen, Zack and Daniel Brown could be playing roles in our rotation. At the same time, Stearns is also likely searching for good arms on the trade market. Not trying to be difficult, but they'll almost certainly do both. At this point last year, Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta and others did not look like they'd play significant roles in a post-season push. A year later we expected them to be key contributors and they've struggled. The only thing I'd commit to is saying I do not want to give Kimbrel or Kuechel multiple years. Give them a little more this year, but there is a loaded FA class next year, so the Brewers could either get some bargains, or with the money that's coming off the books this year, they could try and sign and impact pitcher. But nobody is a fan of 15+ million for multiple years of a reliever and I'll just speak for myself, but I am not a fan of multiple years at 15-18 million for a soft tossing, left hander who's not an ace and who I think could really dip if he loses 2 MPH over the next 2+ years on his fastball. I agree there are too many variables to accurately predict what they will do, this was just more of a consolidation thread of ideas to improve our vastly underperforming pitching staff.
  9. With our pitching staff in disarray, who are some targets we can pursue to stabilize our staff? Do you prefer to sign one of the FA if the $ is there, spend prospect capital to get an upgrade, or ride or die with the pitcher not in our organization? FA: Dallas Kuechel Craig Kimbrel Trade: Madison Bumgarner Will Smith Marcus Stroman Aaron Sanchez Zack Greinke
  10. Shaw has a sub 300 OPS against LHP this year (729->285) Using him vs LHP at this point is irresponsible.
  11. At this point there is no reason to play Braun vs RHP or Shaw vs LHP. Aggy and Thames should be a soft platoon with Thames getting nearly all RHP. Vs RHP Cain Yelich Moose Grandal Thames Shaw Arcia Gamel P Vs LHP Cain Yelich Moose Grandal Aggy Braun Perez Arcia P
  12. How much better does our lineup look with a potential Huira call up in June? CF:Cain 2B:Huira RF:Yelich 3B:Moose C:Grandal 1B:Shaw or Thames LF:Braun/Gamel SS:Arcia
  13. According to this article the Brewers were 8th in MLB with a 66M operating income last season. Someone smarter than me please explain the differences between operating income and profit.
  14. Last year Brewers starters accounted for roughly 850ip. Chacin and Anderson combined to fill 350 of those innings. I feel like it’s safe to say that you can count on those 2 to cover at least 300-325 innings based on their career norms. That leaves 500-550 SP innings split up between Davies, Burnes, Peralta, Woodruff, and Nelson. Davies when healthy has proven to give 160+ innings of sub 4 era pitching. Now we’re talking about less than 400ip remains for Nelson and the 3 young guns. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect those 7 SP to cover a seasons worth of innngs even factoring DL stints from each. Starter accounting for 850 IP seems like a shockingly low number for a 96-win team division winner. We shouldn't be asking a bullpen full of Electric Dudes to carry such a huge load year after year. Our SP last year accounted for 57% of our IP. The Dodgers SP accounted for 60% of their IP. Not a large difference considering our very different roster construction. Also, I could see the Davies/Burnes/Peralta/Woodruff/Nelson accounting for more than 500 innings. They could all pitch 120 with safe arm management and log 600 total innings.

  16. That was a spray chart of every ball put in play by Grandal last season overlayed on Miller Park.
  17. Incumbent 1B Ryan Healy had a 688 ops last year. They are shopping EE so basically they be continuing to to lower the price of their 1B/DH spot with every deal made. Thames salary is reasonable for his (healthy) production and allows SEA to opt out after this year.
  18. Free Agent Signings: Sign Catcher Yasmani Grandal; 3 years for $41.5 million Sign IF Jed Lowrie; 2 years for $19 million Trades: Trade with DET: Corey Ray, Zach Brown, & Chase Anderson for Michael Fulmer Trade with SEA: Eric Thames for Lottery Tickets Brewers 25-Man Roster: Rotation Jhoulys Chacín Michael Fulmer Corbin Burnes Freddy Peralta Zach Davies Bullpen Corey Knebel Josh Hader (LHP) Jeremy Jeffress Brandon Woodruff Alex Claudio (LHP) Adrian Houser Junior Guerra Matt Albers Catchers Yasmani Grandal Manny Piña Infield Jesús Aguilar Orlando Arcia Travis Shaw Jed Lowrie Hernán Pérez Tyler Saladino (Replaced in May by Dubon) Outfield Lorenzo Cain Christian Yelich Domingo Santana Ryan Braun DL: Jimmy Nelson
  19. With talks of the Brewers being linked to Kimbrel, a Bogaerts for Knebel swap makes a ton of sense. Kimbrel (or another reliever) takes Knebel’s place at the back end of the BP and Brewers get a big IF bat that can play 2B/SS/3B.
  20. Ray, Santana, Peralta and Comp A pick would be my top offer. I would also be willing to eat Kipnis as a bridge to Hiura if they took back Thames/Anderson
  21. 2 years ago he stole 60 bases, Last season he stole 30 while dealing with a toe injury that hampered his ability to get on base at his normal rate (Infield singles). He is a gold glove 2B with flexibility to play all 3 OF spots and possibly SS in a pinch Aguilar, Anderson, Brown, Ray for Gordon and Haniger Cain - CF Gordon - 2B Yelich - LF Haniger - RF Shaw - 3B Braun - 1B Pina - C Arcia - SS P Perez can platoon with both Gordon and Shaw as the RH. Gordon does not block Hiura in the long term and becomes a very good LH utility man (albeit expensive) when Keston is ready. When you factor in outgoing salary only adds ~12m over the next 2 years
  22. Would it make sense for the Brewers to look at going after Haniger while taking on Gordon to lower the cost? Gordon is owed 27.1M over the next 2 years with a 1M buyout in 2021. Gordon has hit RHP very well and could theoretically pair nicely with Perez at 2nd. Haniger would give us quite best OF in the MLB, he only question being what do you do with Braun or Aguilar if those 3 OF are player 140+ games each. All in all for a about ~14M in payroll you’d add a 3rd Allstar OF and a dynamic LH platoon 2B who can also play the OF. Edit: not insinuating that we could get both for nothing, just a lesser value package because of Gordon’s contract.
  23. With the knee issues and drop off in production, could Michael Fulmer be a nice buy-low(er) candidate? Tigers could use a bit of everything, SP, SS and OF look like their biggest needs.
  24. How different in value are Santana/Conforto or Arcia/Rosario? Conforto has had more consistent time the last 2 years, but Santana’s full season in 2017 was comparable to Confortos production. Arcia and Rosario are both All D light bat SS. Almost identical hitting numbers with Rosario having 1 more year of control.
  25. His spot on prospect lists of a system that isn't highly regarded doesn't mean a lot. His OPS the last two season are .682 and .688 which isn't great for a third baseman. He is around the average age for those leagues so he isn't exactly young. Not that errors are a great judge of defense, but he had 23 in 117 games last season. If he wasn't a high draft pick, very few people would be talking about him. Chase Anderson had a down year last year. He didn't pitch in the playoffs for us over such studs as Wade Miley and traded for little to nothing Gio Gonzalez. I agree that he should bounce back this season, if you are the Giants, why trade your "Ace" for a bounce back possibility. You would highly prefer someone such as Woodruff or even Brown which are inexpensive and offer long-term upside. When you consider surplus value in the trade I think Erceg and Anderson have a considerable advantage over Bumgarner. Bumgarner is projected for about 2.5 WAR next year for a surplus around 11M Anderson even if he levels off to a 1.5 WAR players for the next 3 years, that gets you a 16M surplus. And I’ve alrwady stated why I think he can be better than a 1.5 WAR player. Erceg could very well give you at least 3 years of 1 WAR (-1oWAR & 2dWAR) play at 3B over his first 3 seasons for a 26M surplus. Not even factoring in his last 3 years of control.
