  4. Ashby has not graduated and is widely-regarded as the #1 prospect in the system at this point. You are not off in thinking the rankings are low. I do a full review of all minor league systems every offseason to stay up-to-date on players across the league and I have the Brewers in the 19-22 range. In all honesty, though, there isn’t a huge discrepancy between systems once you start getting into the late teens and twenties.
  5. This is 2021 rankings. They should have new rankings up sooner than later. Although they usually don't drop things all at once. It takes a few weeks to do them all. They usually do a Top 100. Then top 10 positions - then teams - little by little. Each of the last two years, the MLB Pipeline Top 30 Brewers list has come out in mid-March. Assuming that the lockout doesn’t have an affect on this, which I don’t see why it would, it should be the same this year.
  6. Honestly, behind Ashby, I see no problem calling Lazar the #2 pitching prospect in the organization. There will be question marks coming off Tommy John and there’s still a lot of development needed but he flashed some electric stuff in 2019.
  7. If you can find a person on this site that is not wondering the same thing I would be surprised.
  8. No just no. Small's value is higher as a #4 or #5 starter. Plus he doesn't really have the stuff to be a back end reliever. At worse he is similar to Suter and could be a pitcher who can bridge a couple of innings to your better relievers like Hader. Small is simply not that type of pitcher. His stuff is better and more effective as a starter. Also, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if Hader is traded this organization is hopeless. He, objectively, has had the greatest start to a career for a reliever ever. So, in my opinion, he shouldn’t need replacing until the day he is no longer effective or retires. Either way I hope Small is fully established in a different role at that point in time.
  9. Freddy Peralta I don't think Freddy Peralta K'd less than 10 per 9 in any stop after he was a 20-year-old in high-A. Peralta might not hit 100 on the radar gun, but that doesn't mean the stuff isn't electric. Small's walk rate did come down in winter ball, but the strikeout rates were closer to what he posted at AAA than AA. Hey, fair point. It’s not like Small’s strikeout rate was 11 per 9 in 2021 or anything. That would’ve been nice.
  10. Kelly is not taking part in AFL
  11. With all due respect, where else would they send him next year? Arizona rookie league. He pitched in the DSL this year. Going from the DSL to AFL is interesting as that is a large jump from the type of competition he was facing previously. His highest level has been the rookie leagues. So if he is going to the AFL the team may see him as a candidate to be in low A at some point next year. He could also be placed in instructional until the rookie league starts up. But I think they probably keep him at extended spring training and then move him to low A at some point. He did not pitch in the DSL this year. He pitched in the AZL and Rk in 2018 as a 16-year-old. Came back and repeated the ACL only because of the long layoff due to Tommy John and shortened season due to visa issues. If he had a full season this year he would have surely pitched in Carolina and possibly even Wisconsin depending on his success. Them moving him to Rk as a 16-year-old back in 2018 shows that he is very polished for his age. Still not sure where you got DSL from but just giving my observations.
  12. With all due respect, where else would they send him next year?
  13. Spoke again today with Eduardo Brizuela, the Brewers Complex League administrator. Drew Smith, ranked as the seventh best undrafted free agent signing from the shortened 2020 draft class, made his season debut only a few days ago due to a broken wrist in spring training. Alexis Ramirez and Pablo Abreu will both miss the entire season after undergoing shoulder surgeries. Scotty Sunitsch may also end up missing the entire season due to hip surgery. A side note, Julio Mendez, who suffered cardiac arrest after being hit by a pitch a few seasons ago, did make a full recovery and, although he won’t play professionally again, he is back to living a normal life. *** 2017 Thread the night of the Mendez incident. Chilling.
  14. Unfortunately, we will only have two Carlos Rodriguez to follow as the one listed above is the same individual drafted and signed by the Brewers earlier this week.
  15. I spoke with Eduardo Brizuela today, the Arizona Complex League administrator for the Brewers. He said that Lun Zhao is expected to join one of the ACL teams very soon, possibly by the end of the week. His return from China was delayed due to VISA issues.
  16. First report was a ruptured tendon and fractured wrist, turned out to be just a fracture after a second opinion.
  17. LHP Jackson Gillis, who appeared in a number of games for A Carolina this season, underwent Tommy John surgery yesterday and will be out until late in the 2022 season.
  18. Very tough break for RHP Brooks Hall who had just gotten back into affiliated ball and only had two appearances for AA Biloxi. He suffered a torn Achilles and is out for the season.
  19. My thoughts exactly, low risk-low reward deal, but honestly I would rather have Kirby in the organization than Kramer at this point. Kirby still has more potential in my opinion, which is meaningless.
  20. The Brewers have acquired INF Kevin Kramer from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for LHP Nathan Kirby. Kirby was my sleeper pick before the season and he has impressed so far with AA Biloxi.
  21. Also the Brewers will not field a co-op team with the Blue Jays in the DSL. Instead the Crew will have two teams in both the AZL and DSL, so four total. Short-season leagues will have Wednesdays and Sundays off just as the full-season teams have every Monday off.
  22. AZL and GCL start June 28, DSL begins July 12
  23. Joe Gray, Jr. 2019- 31 G, 19 R, 18 H, 4 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 3 SB, 13 BB, 36 SO, .164 BA, .279 OBP, .300 SLG, .579 OPS 2021- 31 G, 25 R, 37 H, 8 2B, 5 3B, 10 HR, 37 RBI, 7 SB, 18 BB, 37 SO, .316 BA, .409 OBP, .726 SLG, 1.135 OPS I think he might have figured things out...
  24. He was my sleeper pick prior to the season and has not disappointed so far. Would be great to get him to Milwaukee at some point this season.
