  1. Interesting to see that the Brewers will only operate one team in the AZL. Seems as though they have a significant number of players to fit on two DSL clubs (one being a co-op) and only one AZL team.
  2. Talked with Antoine Kelly today, he is hoping to be on the Opening Day roster for one of the AZL squads where he’ll rehab at the end of June. He said worst case scenario is an early July rehab assignment. Was told after a few appearances in Arizona he will move up to Carolina and hopefully Wisconsin before the end of the season.
  3. Big news, players were informed of the rosters to begin the season and Hedbert Perez will be held back at the Arizona complex to begin with one of the AZL squads.
  4. I also just spoke with Hedbert and he told me his absence was not injury related but rather COVID protocols due to another player coming in contact with the virus.
  5. Unless I missed them, I think 2/3 of the pitchers acquired in the Phelps trade also haven't made an appearance. On the plus side, recent days have seen the return of Zamora and Nnebe (still one of my favorite sleeper bats, which probably dooms him to quick oblivion). With a number of the infielders, particularly Wilson and Devanney who looked to be possible AA guys, I wonder if the injuries led to one or both getting shuffled to the alternate site. It will be interesting to see the position player roster construction at the higher levels to start the season if the Brewers don't start getting guys back. Will players start up a level from where they were planned to or will they just put an AZL guy like Castillo or Roa in the last spot on the bench rather than reshuffle a bunch of guys a week into the season? I meant to quote this in my previous reply, Weston Wilson is currently at the alternate site as well.
  6. Max Lazar underwent Tommy John surgery, Antonio Pinero underwent season-ending surgery today. I believe there is a name or two in there that has been released, but I would have to double check.
  7. I know that we recently found out what Ashby's situation was and that he is now in Arizona but, regarding two other prospects, Keegan McCarville will miss the entire 2021 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery and Tyler Gillies is still working his way back from a cancer diagnosis. Wade Beasley may still be rehabbing from his own TJ surgery as well.
  8. I was not sure where to post this but oh well. Maybe I am overthinking this but Antoine Kelly reposted a thoracic outlet syndrome information post on his Instagram story today. While this does not come with an extremely long recovery time if he is in fact experiencing this issue, the track record for success after a return is not very good.
  9. Not sure where to post this so I guess I will here. Does anyone know which Brewers prospects have now exceeded rookie limits this year? Usually, I end up waiting until baseball reference updates player pages following the conclusion of the season. My guess was that Devin Williams and Eric Yardley were the only two that reached rookie status in 2020 but I just wanted to confirm. I still think Nottingham, Taylor, and Rasmussen are just short of the criteria.
  10. Adding three names to the list of Brewers farmhands partaking in independent league ball this summer. RHP Jake Cousins (Chicago Dogs) C Nick Kahle (Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks) SS David Hamilton (Team Texas)
  11. Brewers first undrafted free agent signings thus far: RHP TJ Shook (South Carolina) LHP Jason Munsch (Concordia- Neb.) 2B Drew Smith (GCU) Full reports on each player are up on my Instagram account for anyone interested.
  12. You can add RHP Chad Whitmer to the list of names that have been recently released. Whitmer posted on Instagram that his time with the Brewers had unfortunately come to an end. The 25-year-old was drafted by the Yankees in 2017 but only spent one season in their organization before they traded him to Milwaukee prior to the ‘18 season. Last year, Whitmer split the season between A Wisconsin and A+ Carolina with solid results (6-3, 3.54 ERA, 40 G, 4 SV, 61.0 IP, 13 BB, 57 SO, 1.213 WHIP). Kind of a questionable release but he was old for the levels where he saw action along with the fact that he didn’t dominate despite being at an advanced age spelled the end for him.
  13. Sleepers: 1- RHP Carlos Luna 2- 1B Ernesto Martinez, Jr. 3- RHP Karsen Lindell Breakout 1- OF Tristen Lutz 2- OF Joe Gray, Jr. 3- RHP Victor Castaneda Comeback 1- OF Corey Ray 2- LHP Quintin Torres-Costa 3- OF Larry Ernesto Deep Sleepers 1- LHP Nathan Kirby 2- C Jose Sibrian 3- RHP Preston Gainey
  14. Well, they tend to get excited about guys who have those size speed numbers in the DSL. Um, 5'10 165 run grade 40? Well, they tend to get excited about J2s who get paid a 7 figure deal. Um, 200K bonus? Well, they tend to get excited about guys who put up some big results from the jump. Um, he hasn't played? He might play C but this sure is out of LF. Jeferson Quero prove us wrong!
  15. Honestly, I used to wait for mlb pipelines lists to come out each year but I’m finally beginning to realize how little their “expert” opinions make of a difference. Every single list that comes out is just a shot in the dark and a best guess based on the prospect’s pedigree. I personally did not have Jeferson Quero in my Brewers Top 100 Prospects list and I don’t think that was a mistake. While it would be a safe bet to put every single catcher in the system on my list, purely based on the importance of the position, why, in theory, would Quero be ranked higher than guys like Max McDowell ever was simply because we don’t know what they are capable of yet. Maybe I sound like an idiot, I mean I’m obviously not arguing against guys like Hedbert or Medina, but Jeferson Quero? Cmon mlb pipeline.
  16. Jeferson Quero at 17.... huh that's new
  17. Also, I did mention Belisario, but there are a number of lower grade prospects that are not even mentioned that could be placed anywhere such as Chris Lee, Jesus Castillo, Freisis Adames, etc.
  18. Peralta will be in Milwaukee, whether in the pen or not. At this point, I believe Burnes will also be there at least to start the season. So I believe that moves Francis up to AAA and Johan Belisario will take the 5th spot in the rotation there. Ashby will most likely start at AA in that scenario with one of Jarvis/Olson at A+. I’m also not sure if they will have Lindell in the rotation at Wisconsin.
  19. Former Brewers farmhand note, Taylor Brennan has officially retired. He showed some promise with the Milwaukee organization specifically in 2014 with the Timber Rattlers and was quite successful in independent ball. I have a full write up on my Brewers Farm Instagram account for those interested that like to keep up on former Brewers minor league players.
  20. The fact that Kirby is still attempting to pitch unlike some that may not be as determined to play following injuries (I.e. Josh Pennington) and the fact that the Brewers have not given up on him means that neither have I. There have been pitchers that have overcome perhaps even more extensive injury histories than Kirby and still been successful in reaching the majors such as Jameson Taillon and Danny Hultzen. There are also pitchers both in the Brewers system and around baseball that have been through similar and still have not been given up on such as Preston Gainey with the Crew and Brent Honeywell, although he has always been Top 100 talent. Nobody should be forgetting about this 26-year-old southpaw just yet.
  21. Another injury ravaged Brewers prospect, Kirby missed the entire 2019 season after thoracic outlet syndrome surgery but was on the initial Arizona Fall League rosters. Unfortunately, a fractured rib ruined any chances of an appearance in the AFL, however, unless there was another setback he should be throwing this spring.
  22. Maybe he can be persuaded to return to the Crew... Still only 23 years old, I would love to see him back in the organization at some point. The injury history and the fact that he has not pitched competitively since 2015 are huge question marks but it would make for an amazing story. Brewers have given second chances in the past, such as Karsen Lindell (released and then resigned after time with Driveline Baseball) and Trever Morrison (retired and then decided to attempt a comeback).
  23. Side note here, Missaki is once again pitching for Team Brazil in their quest to qualify for the 2021 World Baseball Classic and will be on the mound in March during the qualifying tournament. Maybe we will see him back in affiliated ball at some point in the future. I was always high on Missaki and was very disappointed when the Brewers cut ties with him due to his ongoing health problems.
  24. I think you mean “what if I don’t have an account on the app that nearly every single Brewers (major and minor league) player has and is a useful tool in players announcements (especially injuries and retirements) straight from the players themselves?”. Then I suggested you download the app, create an account, and give BrewersFarm a follow to stay up to date with the latest Brewers farm system news. I have already had three members of this forum create an account simply for this purpose. Thank you again for your interest!
