  1. I don't think Stearns would have any interest in Myers because of the price. $68.5M over the next three years. He could spend that money on pitching and the Brewers would be much better for it.
  2. I have been thinking of this as well. What players out there would be potential targets in trades where we would take on a large salary? I have seen Mookie Betts and Francisco Lindor being thrown around in rumors. Any others? A few that come to mind that shouldn’t cost much in terms of trade value if a team were willing to take on their remaining contracts... Corey Kluber (1 year at $17.5 million with a team option for $18 million in 2021 or a $1 million buyout) Jean Segura (4 years and $45.5 million) Kyle Seager (3 years and $54 million) Segura is owed $45.5 for the next 3 years. The fourth year would be $17M with the $1M buyout. $15M is a lot to pay for a 2B/SS that nobody seems to want. Kluber would be worth the risk if Clev. didn't want much in return. No on Seager. Too much for too little production.
  3. I would definitely be in on a deal for Lowrie and Davis/Smith if Stearns could pull it off. It would fill a big need and a very good utility man for not a lot of money. No thanks on Familia. He is going to make $24M over the next two years and he's been horrific out of the pen.
  4. I have been thinking of this as well. What players out there would be potential targets in trades where we would take on a large salary? I have seen Mookie Betts and Francisco Lindor being thrown around in rumors. Any others? Brandon Belt and Evan Longoria strike me as potential targets. Kyle Seager maybe. Mark Trumbo I guess. I can't imagine Stearns would even think of Longoria or Trumbo. Longoria is owed $58M over the next three years and on the downside of his career. Way too expensive for his production. Trumbo was hurt again last year and is a DH. No value at all. Belt is scheduled to make $34.5M in the next two years. Again way too expensive for his production. Seager is going to make $38-41M in the next two years. None of these guys are even worth considering unless their teams ate a lot of money just to get rid of them and the prospects going to them were low level.
  5. I look at Franco as being a cheaper version of Todd Frazier. Not as good defensively at 3B, but a last resort kind of pickup. Walker will depend on how he does returning from TJ surgery. With only 1 IP last year he may be another year away from being helpful.
  6. I like your thinking on Hultzen. He's 30 with a long injury history, but a lefty who could be a big reward/ small risk pickup with little lost if he didn't pan out. Sanchez maybe as a long guy or 5th starter. No to Pillar. Gamel is better and a lot cheaper.
  7. Treinen may bounce-back, but he made $6.4m last year and had a horrendous year. He would have to take a huge cut for the Brewers to be interested. He's too big a risk to pay bigger dollars to when they have so many spots to fill. Relievers are a tough position to figure out year to year.
  8. If the Mets are offering Davis AND McNeil, jump on it! It creates one issue every couple of days, but solves two everyday. I would hold out for something better. I am not all that in love with McNeil and Davis is another Shaw type to me and the Brewers already have Shaw why give up a valuable asset just to get the same player back? If I am trading Hader I would look at the Yankees, Dodgers, Astros, and the Twins before I even think about picking up the phone and listening to what the Mets are offering. I would prefer to trade with the Dodgers and somehow get May but I don't believe the Dodgers are going trade May. I wonder if the Yankees would do Deivi Garcia and Andujar for Hader. Andujar is probably better suited at 1B than 3B which would drop his value a little bit and you may be able to get someone like Florial or Pereira in addition to Garcia and Andujar. Garcia is a top of the rotation type starting pitcher at AA right now so he is on track for either being in the majors by the middle of the next season or at the latest the 2021 season. Garcia is a 50 FV type of a prospect so he is definitely in the range of what you can expect for a Hader return prospect wise. The biggest down size is his height at 5'9" other than that his biggest issue would be his BB/9 but his K/9 has been about 12 K/9 which is in the elite range for starting pitchers. If you can get Andujar and Garcia from the Yankees that gives you a stud 1B/3B and a #1/2 pitcher with Ace potential. Preferably the best trade options are with the Astros, Dodgers and Twins in terms of MLB ready players who have a lot of control left. For the Dodgers you are looking at trying to center something around May or Ruiz. For the Astros it is Whitley and for the Twins Lewis, Kiriloff, or Graterol would be the center pieces of a trade for Hader. I don't think the Twins will trade either of those three for Hader and the same with the Astros and Whitley. Realistically I think a Hader trade comes down to the Yankees, Dodgers and the Mets. I don't see the Mets having the players the Brewers want and the ones the Brewers do want are probably not available. The same probably goes with the Dodgers with May and Ruiz being off the table for Hader so you are looking at second tier players from the Dodgers in Downs, Gray and Cartaya. While I like Gray from the Dodgers I am just not that in love with him and Downs being the center pieces for a Hader trade. I just don't see a Hader trade as a possibility as I don't believe the assets are available for a Hader trade to happen. Andujar was one of the worst 3B in modern history in 2018. He is a 1B at best and that downgrades his value to the Brewers a lot. The Brewers need MLB ready prospects if they are going to trade Hader. Garcia struggled in his AAA time, so he needs at least another year. IMO they could do better.
  9. IMO your payroll estimate is low. The big downfall is the bullpen. It would be one of the worst in baseball. Peralta is a once every 3 days guy. Who knows about Knebel. Claudio is highly questionable with the new 3 batter rule. Suter is a long guy and none of the others have done anything to indicate they would be late inning options. If they trade Hader they have to get somebody in the pen to replace him.
  10. Well, this is a package BaseballTradeValues.com says would work: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/trade-16991/ BREWERS GET: RHP Ian Kennedy OF Kyle Isbel ROYALS GET: SS Orlando Arcia Kennedy is expensive, but he has found a second life as a closer/reliever. Posted career-high 10.4 K/9 ratio, had 30 saves, and would be a nice insurance policy for Knebel. Isbel is an interesting CF prospect... may be looking to rebound after 2019. Just say no. Isbel hit .233/.296 in Rk/A ball. He looked overmatched at A level. Kennedy would cost $16.4M! Waaay too expensive to even think about. For that kind of money Stearns could get Lyles and Bentances.
  11. I think I would pass on Belt for several reasons. First, he is owed $34.4M over the next two years and the Giants would have to eat at least $22M of that to make him even interesting. Second they let Thames go and he was more productive at a much lower price than Belt. I'd rather bring Thames back at a reduced price than deal for Belt.
  12. Donaldson is looking for $20+M and Moose would be in the $11-12M range. With the raises and arby payments there would be little for pitching. Better to spend the Donaldson money on pitching and pay Moose to play 3B. Non tendering Shaw saves only about $4.7M.
  13. Miley really ran out of gas starting the second week of August. He would be a last resort type guy if all else failed. Certainly not a TOR guy, but a competent starter if he comes affordable.
  14. You post this comment literally the exact same day we traded Grisham after years of patience with him and are selling at what could very well be his peak value. This is ironic. The Brewers dumped Villar because he was already making $2.5M and was once again arby eligible. He didn't play defense well and was horrible running the bases. The big reason; they had Arcia at SS and Huira coming up for 2B. Villar was going to be expensive as a backup.
  15. I agree completely. Forget Rendon. If Stearns is looking to spend big money, spend it on Moose (3/$33M) - Wheeler (4/$80 with a 5th year including buyout) - Bentances (2/$12M). Could have all three for the money mentioned for one year of Rendon.
  16. Hernan Perez and Tyler Austin were both waived as well. And of course Jeffress was released toward the end of the season. Could add Jhoulys Chacin to that as well. As well as Jeffress-Albers (non-tender candidate)
  17. what other information do you have? Nothing too exciting, San Diego called about Davies first and talks progressed around 2 weeks ago. Grandal gave the Brewers the option to match and they didn’t for the reason stated above. Still talking to Moose, looking at Smoak and Morrison for first. Do not know much on pitching front. Sox site reported Grandal said the Sox were one of 5 teams he was talking to. None were the Brewers.
  18. Smoak is not in the mix for Milwaukee. Thames was better across the board and cheaper and they let him go. Smith would be desirable but at what cost? He would be a nice find at 1B.
  19. Castillo has a real bad year with the White Sox last year. .209/.267 while making $7.25M. He was traded to the Rangers who released him almost immediately.
  20. You would have the weakest INF. in all MLB. Getting JD but losing Moose and Thames is a major downgrade to the Crew if Urias plays 3B. They might set a major lg. record for the weakest hitting SS-3B combo ever. Could you imagine Pina-Urias-Arcia as your 6-7-8 hitters? You would also have probably the weakest defensive right side of the INF in modern history.
  21. IMO Rendon is way out of Stearns' price range. He's likely going to get Cole type money. They'd be better off going for Moose and getting Wheeler (4-$80M) for about the same money.
  22. IMO the Brewers probably tried to do something with Brown, but got no takers. He was badly overmatched at AAA last year (5.79 ERA - many more hits than IPs - 1.73 WHIP - almost 5 BBs per 9). I don't see any team thinking he would be Rule 5 material. I believe the Brewers left him unprotected because they feel he isn't going anywhere so why waste a spot for him. He obviously didn’t have a stellar campaign, but when put into the context of the overall PCL run environment last season he really wasn’t nearly as bad as we would traditionally think of those numbers. There were 98 pitchers in the PCL that made 10+ starts last year (Zach Brown made 23 starts which was 8th most in the PCL last year), and the average age of those starters was just over 26 years old (average age of all PCL pitchers was 26.7). Brown was 24 years old last season, so still a couple of years below the average age. Below is Zack Brown’s stat line compared to the league average pitching results in the PCL for 2019. League Average (PCL): 5.49 ERA 1.523 WHIP 9.8 H9 1.5 HR9 3.9 BB9 8.9 SO9 Zack Brown: 5.79 ERA 1.731 WHIP 10.6 H9 1.2 HR9 4.9 BB9 7.6 SO9 So again, he was not good last year, but considering his previous track record as well as the fact he was in a horrendous run environment last year, I will be a little surprised if nobody takes a chance on him in the Rule 5 draft. I can't see how a team would waste a spot on the 26 man roster for the entire year especially if the pitcher limit is 13. Maybe if the expanded roster goes to 14 pitchers.
  23. The offense is already hurting badly w/o Moose, Grandal, no 1B, and you want a much weaker hitting 2B. McKay may pan out to be a decent starter or may be a long man type. But with the severe lack of offense the Crew would be looking at 5th in the division. No thanks.
  24. As more FAs get signed away from Milwaukee, Faria becomes a possibility. He was so bad last year I didn't think there was any way Stearns even had Faria on his radar. I still believe he is gone or signed to a minor lg. deal, but time will tell.
  25. It's literally the easiest place they could make an upgrade without having to break the bank. Could he be the Brewers SS come Opening Day? Sure, but I'm definitely not betting on it. Assuming they don't address the worst SS group in major league baseball seems foolhardy. I was think along the lines of a cheap veteran filler. Instead they actually sent out salary and might have locked down the position for the next 6 years. Even better. It looks like the SS position has now been addressed by Stearns. Maybe he adds a very low cost veteran later. I don't know if Urias is the answer, but it sure looks like Stearns thinks so.
